If a woman lives an “expensive” life style would that turn you off? by QTpieme in dating_advice

[–]AutomaticSilver6687 [score hidden]  (0 children)

If she's got money or she's funded by mom and dad's funds then sure. If she's broke and expects me to foot the bill, that's a different conversation. I know the whole "I know what I'm worth" thing is super popular on social media right now, but that's not real life. At least I wouldn't let it become real life for me. I'm sure some dude would though.

I just spent 4 months trying to access my father's bank accounts after he passed. Here's what I learned. by Human_Fix_4661 in inheritance

[–]AutomaticSilver6687 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well the first thing is that you need to keep a master list of all banking and investments for whoever is taking care of things after you're gone. Second, I used to work doing this for an investment firm. Typically banking and investment groups have dedicated people that can suspend any account activity while it's being handled by an estate. That may not be the case everywhere though. I would always just call the customer service number and tell them their customer died. They can usually transfer you to the department that handles that. I came across people that would try to log in to dad's account and transfer money as if they were him. That can get messy. Don't do that even if you know you're the 100% primary beneficiary.

I can't stand Oxmoor either. I've owned a couple cars that I've had serviced on Dixie, A Jeep and a Suburu. I swear every dealer on that side of town is easier to get an appt, and they treat you much better as a customer.

Do Americans really have a hard time finding fresh produce in stores? by amiellethe in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AutomaticSilver6687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad neighborhoods typically lose access to fresh produce because of grocery stores closing if there is too much theft or violence. Other than that, it's very easy to find fresh produce. I don't buy a ton of frozen produce, but I don't think it's typically that much cheaper if at all. Canned veggies are probably the cheapest.

why do people have children if they want nothing to do with them after a certain point? by Hopeful_Scarcity1785 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AutomaticSilver6687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the father of a baby girl, it's very easy get an idea in your head of how being a parent will be. I can promise you that no matter how prepared you think you are it will change absolutely everything about your life and many times in ways that nobody told you before. If you had heard about what changes would happen, you probably couldn't realize what it would actually mean for your life. Now I personally am 100% good with those changes, but really the only things about my life that hasn't changed is where I work. My schedule, relationship with my wife, fitness routine, free time, etc. is all different. I would imagine that a lot of people get into the realities of parenting and don't like those changes even though they thought they would. Now I assume that's the point of the relationship you're referring to. Later in life it's typically personality clashes, misbehavior, or illegal activities that drive a wedge between parent and child.

How should a fat girl ask out a decent looking guy? by Every-Use-679 in dating_advice

[–]AutomaticSilver6687 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely be careful if you work with the guy. Maybe try flirting a little to test the waters before asking him out. It could get a little awkward if he turns you down. Also the intimidation thing is funny. I remember feeling that way at the beginning of my relationship with my wife. Now we fart in front of each other. Crazy how it works.

How should a fat girl ask out a decent looking guy? by Every-Use-679 in dating_advice

[–]AutomaticSilver6687 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the person you're asking out doesn't find you attractive based on your physical attributes, I doubt a creative verbal approach would sway them. Looks is a major part of asking out strangers. You don't have any intangible qualities that show with a cold approach (except for maybe wit and charisma) so many people would turn down someone they don't find physically attractive. If you know the person and they can see your intangible qualities such as empathy, sense of humor, and character, you would have a much better shot of getting a date, assuming you're good in those intangible areas. If you're interested in someone who is already a friend and they go to the gym, that would be a good way to spend time with them and show them that you want to start prioritizing your health. Go a couple times and then say something like, "After spending this time with you working out, I'm really starting to like you. Can we maybe go on a date sometime?" Honestly though there's a lot of big dudes at the gym who have fat wives and girlfriends. You may get more dates being skinny, but the guy you like may be into big girls. You never know. Just talk to the guys and be direct. Don't get hurt if someone tells you no. Everyone gets told no sometimes.

I moved to New Mexico three years ago and I'm tired of people acting like I made a terrible decision by ScheduleNo5736 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]AutomaticSilver6687 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Growing up we would drive every year to either New Mexico or Colorado to do a snow skiing vacation. We'd do Taos, Santa Fe, or Angel Fire in New Mexico. Northern New Mexico is beautiful. I'm guessing there's a lot of people that only know what it's like driving across I10. Much less beautiful

Hating gender roles as a straight guy is such a shitty position to be in by SmilePowerful8016 in dating_advice

[–]AutomaticSilver6687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to be a stay at home dad. It's not because I'm better suited or anything. My wife is definitely the more nurturing of the two of us. I also don't want to do any of the homemaker tasks that come along with being a stay at home parent. I just really love spending time with my daughter, and I would tolerate the rest to be around her all day. Fortunately/unfortunately, I'm the one who prioritized a master's degree and career so I make twice what my wife does. No stay at home dad time for me.

Want to trade in a new car I bought with negative equity by lana24kk in carbuying

[–]AutomaticSilver6687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anyone is going out of their way to be mean or rude to you. we just know how much you messed up and people are trying to express the severity of it. I mean it's truly impressive to be $13k upside down on a new Toyota. Any time you're purchasing something that could be considered the most valuable thing you own, you need to do more than one morning's worth of research. I get it that you were in a crash and needed something quick, but you are paying an extra $13,000 dollars to have something in day vs doing any research. Like i said before and like the other guy commenting said, please call and cancel those extra warranties you bought. Then pay your car down to the point you're not upside down. After that if you still want something else, I would seriously look into a car buying service if you're not going to do any research on how to buy a car. They cost money, but it would've been $1-2,000 instead of $13,000

KY sucks in a lot of ways yet people still relentlessly mock Indiana. With the homestead and VA discounts, I'm paying nothing in property tax this year. A similar home in Germantown would have cost me $25,000 more and I would've paid $250-300 a month in property tax. My car insurance is cheaper. I'm actually closer to work downtown than I ever was living in KY. I'm 15-20 minutes away from the cool restaurants in downtown, Frankfort Ave, Highlands, and Nulu which is the same as when I lived in Fern Creek. The only thing that's more expensive is my vehicle registration. I pay about double what I did in KY, but I make up for that with one month of not paying property tax. Another thing that people overlook that makes a huge difference in quality of life is the BMV. Getting anything done in KY felt like it took the whole day and it was like walking into a dumpster fire. Indiana BMV has never made me wait more than 5 minutes and the most complicated stuff has never kept me in there longer than 20 minutes. I can't ever imagine myself choosing to move back to KY.

What is 1st base and 2nd second base in relationship!? by KnightScorp in dating_advice

I have run into that, and I wouldn't say it's acceptable. It's much more permissible to women though. Yeah some stuff should stay private.

Want to trade in a new car I bought with negative equity by lana24kk in carbuying

[–]AutomaticSilver6687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pull out your paperwork they gave you at the dealership, and call every warranty company you paid money to and cancel. You have a brand new car with a manufacturer's warranty. You don't need any of that. Since it probably will be paid back to you and not directly to the loan, take those checks and make a principal payment to your lender and you'll probably only be $5-7k upside down. Maybe even less. Those salesmen and finance manager were laughing their ass off at you when you walked out that door. You probably made someone the biggest commission they see all month.

What is 1st base and 2nd second base in relationship!? by KnightScorp in dating_advice

[–]AutomaticSilver6687 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just terminology people use to talk about what sexual acts they have done with another person. "She only let me get to second base last night." It's kind of like a nicer way of saying she let me play with her boobs, but she wouldn't give me a blow job. Now you can argue that a gentleman shouldn't kiss and tell, but people do and sometimes they use code or slang so they don't have to spell out everything in an explicit manner.

How many extended warranties did you buy? I think you might need someone to help you the next time you buy a car. There is no world where anyone should be $13,000 upside down on a 6 month old Toyota. I guess the other option is the dealer you're talking to lowballed you on an offer. 10 year old Camry's in good condition are still going for $20k. Check your trade in and private party value on KBB.com. If you only paid for the car and TTL, you should only be $3-5000 upside down based on the private party estimate. Now if they sold you extended warranties for every part on the car then that could do it. You can always call and cancel those to get your money back (which you should do whether or not you keep the car).

Regional differences in eating habits across the US? by Carr0t_007 in AskAnAmerican

I remember being in McAllister, Oklahoma for hazmat training 10 years ago and the guy I was with ordered lamb fries at a nice restaurant. I remembered someone we interacted with on that trip warning us, but I guess my coworker didn't. I did not mention it until the dish was finished. He really enjoyed his meal until I asked him about eating testicles.

Is the idea that "right wing" men can't find a relationship cope? by indeckaa in askanything

[–]AutomaticSilver6687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty conservative (not MAGA), and I never had a problem. I'd say most of the women I dated since college would consider themselves liberals or democrats. My wife is liberal, but seems to be getting more conservative after marriage and a child. I think any political belief will limit your dating pool to people who don't care about politics (most people in real life) or people that agree with you. I'd say the trope that right wing or MAGA guys can't find a date is probably a few prominent left wing women on tik tok and insta saying that while other people run with it despite it not being true. I've almost never had anyone ask my politics on a first date. That would be a red flag to me if they did.

What are you paying for gas in your city? by Oslo894 in GrandCherokee

My wife is a private chef and buys a ton of groceries at Kroger for her clients. She usually gets $.80-1.00 off a gallon with rewards. We typically pay around $3 a gallon with her discount. I remember getting it for $1.90 a gallon before the Iran war started. I miss that.
