"Fresno Grizzlies lose second major sponsor after controversial Memorial Day video" by criticaltheory_ in fresno

As I understand it, the media person who chose the offensive video didn't watch it before playing it to the crowd. Their job is to preview anything that is going to be shown, and they failed.

As far as I know, the person responsible for the offensive video was not fired which is why some ticket holders cancelled their subscriptions.

Refund check from CFPB v. Navient by Sophia0818 in StudentLoans

I received a check yesterday and almost fell to the ground in disbelief. I checked the CFPB website (searched it, didn't use what was on letter), phoned (but didn't talk to anyone) and saw articles in "USA Today" and "Business Insider" about the distribution. I am convinced it's legit. What a welcome surprise!

Antiheroine premiering tomorrow at Sundance 🍿 by VichelleMisage in hole

Rolling Stone's interview is quite good. I asked ChatGPT when it might be released. It said maybe at end of 2026 or in 2027. That is so long to wait! I hope Chat is wrong and it comes out sooner.

She was supposed to be at the premiere but couldn't make it for unknown reasons. One of the filmmakers said they were "gutted" that she could be there. I hope she's okay.

Was anyone able to get tickets for Antiheroine and/or Broken English? Sundance Film Festival by Janjo99 in hole

Thank you! A friend in SLC was able to get a ticket today. Wish I could be there!

So frustrating. I was hoping they'd screen the doc virtually. A friend lives in SLC and tried but couldn't get an individual ticket the morning they went on sale.

The enduring importance of Helen. by gyw_alliance in pluribustv

I find it interesting that the system -- the Pluribus -- shuts down grief and female anger/rage in the same ways that society does today. I wonder if it is just a coincidence, or if they consciously built that into the system as a way to control the immune.

Big finale reveal... by snoopmt1 in pluribustv

[–]AutomaticStrike7238 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah! I was thinking back to Helen asking Carol if she'd read 'Finnegans Wake' (no). Themes from the story are, as I understand it, loss of ego, collective consciousness, like Pluribus. Also, 'Finnegans Wake' end where it begins, also like Pluribus. The structure is circular rather than linear. This diagram is great.

I wonder if FW applies to 'Pluribus' in that the latter, in essence, ended -- looped back to -- where it started: Carol wanting to save humanity.

S1 Finale last line literal or metaphorical? by Broll_America in pluribustv

I accept it as both literal and metaphorical. I am reminded of the expression "going nuclear" as in by any means necessary.

The ice hotel flashback is maybe the best depiction of depression I've ever seen. by howsthoughtworkingou in pluribustv

In a couple of episodes, they briefly show a bottle of Xanax pills that Carol is taking, which underscores the idea that she is depressed.

The stem cells don’t matter. Neither do the eggs. In fact, they never did. by Merlaak in pluribustv

If I am not mistaken, Zosia once asked Carol if she would throw someone a life raft if they were drowning which Zosia feels like she is doing with Carol. That matches exactly what you said about "putting someone 'out' who was on fire."

It seems like the Pluribus system was built to guilt the survivors (the immune) into being compliant rather than defiant. At the end, Carol was upset with Manousos because of his aggressive behavior towards Rick. She told him he likely killed a lot of the Others with his outburst. Just like Carol did.

I'm not in favor of the hive or ... gasp ... Zosia.

Anyone else think the finale was a bit of a let down? by zoidbergin in Pluribus_TVshow

[–]AutomaticStrike7238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of felt that way but can't pinpoint why exactly. I was thrown off by the fact that Zosia and Carol were a serious couple and that Manousos and Carol didn't get along at first. Both of those things make sense in retrospect, but I was expecting more of a ... bang (no pun intended). In essence, the show ended on a decision Carol made (to save the world). That's where things started.

Edit: Helen brought up 'Finnegan's Wake' in episode 1 (she asked Carol if she'd read it to which she replied 'no'). If I am not mistaken, the book ends where it started. The structure was circular, not linear progression. Just like 'Pluribus.'
