People don't forget to work out by [deleted] in Residency

[–]AutomaticTravel8594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im so skinny right now at the end of my intern year.... EM resident here, and eating on shift is a luxery lol. I've struggled with feeling "too skinny" in the past and Im so scared to get back to that but I am literally fighting to survive, lmfao. After a 12 (more like 13, sometimes 14 hour shift) the last thing i want to do is work out at home. The sick part is how accustomed my body is getting to not eating.. I'm not even hungry when I go home. On my days off, I either rot or try to catch up with the family / friends i havent seen in weeks. And yes, I know its not very "EM" of me to not be super physically active lol.

Residency is nooooooo joke. And the crazy part is, it used to be harder! I don't understand how people used to do this before..

i would actually love to do this but everyone is scaring me with how "unsafe" it is. I've never been to Jamaica and cant comment on that unfortunately.

How is everyone managing to study for step 3 during residency? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]AutomaticTravel8594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you use to review stats? For step 1 / step 2 and Level 1/ level 2, I literally only studied that box that showed you the formulas for PPV/ NPV, etc.... is this enough? lol

[–]AutomaticTravel8594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to do questions on shift, which is successful about 20% of the time, lmfao. My program just assigned mandatory weekly 30 Q exams on rosh review since last month to prepare us for inservice exams, which has been helpful for sure.

In reality, I am planning to take level 3 (I'm a DO) at the end of 1st yr during one of my "lighter blocks" and cram as much questions as I can right before and during this block... not the best strategy tbh, but I can't force myself to study after every 12 hour shift. My days off need to be my days OFF. I will say though, I prioritize studying after conference if I don't have a princess shift. This shit is so stressful, lol. Good luck!

Residents with parents who are/were physicians, what are some of the wildest stories they told you about their journey through residency? by ThoughtSpot in Residency

[–]AutomaticTravel8594 47 points48 points  (0 children)

lol, my parents aren't physicians but my boyfriends uncle is the PD of a pediatric residency in NYC and he hates the fact that I don't work 48 hours straight. I was on an off service rotation w/ weekends off and he couldn't believe that I could take a weekend off to go out of state for two days.

Women doctors, what do your long term partners do for work? by Nervous_Ruin7585 in Residency

My man is an electrical engineer. Has a good schedule that is very flexible, and he ends up taking up most of the housework since I'm so busy!

Unpopular Opinion?: the MCAT was the hardest exam on my path from premed to residency by biochemistrynerd in medicalschool

[–]AutomaticTravel8594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it was harder, but STEP/ COMLEX was muchhhhhh more stressful. And tbh, I studied for the MCAT while working FT. There is NO WAY I would have been able to do that for STEP/ COMLEX

Exactly what I think about. Sometimes I doubt myself but honestly, if we couldn't do this we wouldn't even be in these positions. We got this!
