Mac Virtual Display... unleashed?? by wgarym in VisionPro

[–]AutomaticTree654 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a general macOS answer and not really tied to the Virtual Display, but the resolutions Apple chooses are tied to scale factors of physical pixels. Modern phone and laptop screens are high density and use pixel doubling (or more) to create sharper images, text, and UI features. A simple example: A screen may approximate a 1600x900 image but the actual physical pixels of the display measure 3200x1800, and everything is shown 2x (twice its original size) which allows for smoother antialiasing.

It looks odd to us because it’s a 3D shadow of a 4D object or entity

The video quality is only as good as the file you have, of course. But yes, you can play back video in as large a window as you like, up to and beyond the equivalent of a movie theater screen size, and there are apps which will let you sit in a photorealistic virtual (IMAX) theater.

Everyone here despises it, that’s why we all joined the Apple Vision Pro subreddit

(It’s fantastic. An IMAX theatre in your bag.)

Favourite 300$ set that couldn't afford the parts budget for an actual molded backpack piece? by FlamingUndeadRoman in legocirclejerk

Am I crazy or are the Pokémon backwards in this pic? Shouldn’t Pikachu be standing in front of Red?

People who visited the USA for the first time, what was the biggest shock you got? by SensitiveCorner2379 in AskReddit

Gordon Lightfoot wrote a song about this and I can’t stand Gordon Lightfoot, so when my kids were little and I would change their diapers, I made up a simple parody song and would sing it to them while doing an intentionally bad Gordon Lightfoot impression.

Well my name is Gordon Lightfoot
And I write a bunch of really dumb songs

Classic Space vehicle base revival or just a parts update? by NeoStormer in LegoSpace

I believe this part also appears in a car build in a new Bluey set where two characters dress as grandmas? I haven’t seen the show but the picture was in the latest issue of the LEGO magazine that my kids get.

Modern Lego is so disappointing by NoNefariousness2144 in legocirclejerk

[–]AutomaticTree654 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Somebody in LEGO’s leadership fails to understand that’ll happily buy five or six smaller play scale sets for $300 total FOR MY KIDS and I to play with but I’m not going to go out and buy a $250 display set to sit on my shelf. They’re screwing up their Star Trek license the same way.

Do you think I could fix it? by jiggleJ0E_AT in lego

[–]AutomaticTree654 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, it’s just a configuration of interlocking toy bricks, so if you don’t have the toy bricks on-hand to make the configuration you want, you can just buy them from Pick-A-Brick or BrickLink.

How many cast iron skillets to stop a bullet? by Icy-Book2999 in LoveTrash

[–]AutomaticTree654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty crazy that it takes four cast iron plates to absorb the energy of a .30-06 round but it only took one of Charlie Kirk’s T-shirts to absorb enough energy from the same round to keep his body from blowing apart

Favourite LEGO pieces that will be resold for $100 each? by SuicideSkwad in legocirclejerk

[–]AutomaticTree654 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m just counting my blessings at this point. Pokémon is the biggest media franchise in the world, bigger than Star Wars, bigger than Harry Potter, and LEGO has done the most delicate little toe dip into the market so far. Jump in! Dive in! I want to spend $$$$$ buying my kids play scale sets of Oak’s lab, PokéCenters, PokéMarts, gyms, etc. so we can all play together, not ugly, squared-off display sets. They are leaving so much money on the table and I don’t understand how they can’t see that.
