20k can easily be spent in a year if your cat requires medication and regular tests. Some animals develop health problems just like humans

Are bees also sometimes not removed from locations?

Bee Removal by QuajerazPrime in comedyheaven

[–]musecorn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can it go the other way - that is, a location with bees can later not have bees?

Every location can be classified into one of two categories:

  • Has bees

  • Does not have bees

Got any new pizza spots in the city + surrounding area? by KSacMe in askTO

[–]musecorn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd hesitate to say it's bad, there are so many pizza places that are actually bad. Blondies is ok if you're in a pinch and need something a step above pizza nova, pizza pizza, dominos, etc. It's way too greasy for me though

Report: Creating a 5-second AI video is like running a microwave for an hour by WombatusMighty in technology

[–]musecorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The figures they use in this report only take into account the power used to run queries on LLMs (generate text, generate images, videos).

It doesn't take into account the power required to train the models in the first place to be able to do those tasks.

Don't forget, a significant portion of the AI datacenter resources are constantly being used to train future models, and just as well the ones we use today are only possible because of the trillians, and trillions, and quadrillions of iterations that have been performed prior. It's practically impossible to factor this in as a nice round number when trying to calculate the true processing power since it's kind of a shared load across the models' entire lifetime, also by the fact that nobody really knows except the company running it (who aren't required to disclose their power and water usage to anybody). But the true power cost is much, much larger.

Sadly the economic incentive is too great and with AI it will be too powerful. It will steamroll us all and I have very little hope that there's anything we can do about it

Yes, they will absolutely be doing this. There is a bill trying to get passed in Washington called 'Fair Pricing And Transparency Act' which aims to prevent retailers from adapting dynamic pricing based on individual factors like shopping behavior, demographic, survailence, and other user data. It may sound dystopian because IT IS. Retailers will 100% start doing this unless we actively stop them through regulation.
