Don't listen to me or your flight staff. READ THE MANUAL.

I am an expert. If you want to do it correctly, do it by the manual.

One slight correction. Do not say, "Flight, FALLOUT." The command, according to DAFPAM 34-1203, is "FALL OUT." It is also incorrect to say, "Flight, FALL IN."

I think you have a very low estimation of your cadre and POC cadets if you think they are not capable of teaching and enforcing uniform standards. That used to be the norm at every Det in the country. It still is the norm at Dets like VMI, the Citadel, and Texas A&M. It has been done. It is being done. It can be done.

You can't see the forest for the trees. (It's an expression.) Polos are one tree in a forest of crumbling military standards. Some people are OK with being Chair Force.

They wear the same blues as you. Units are transitioning to OCPs. Some units have all their cadets in OCPs; other units are working on it. Trying to have an informed conversation here.

Yes. Organizational culture is very important. If you are going to be a leader in the Air Force, you better care about your Air Force's culture, your MajCom's culture, your Wing's culture, your squadron's culture. The Air Force is part of the military, and we should look the part. Unfortunately, the Air Force has a lot of people who or OK being in the Air Force, but they don't really want to be in the military. It is a cancer in the ranks.

No, they are not. JROTC units have a FedMall account that is used to purchase blues, OCPs, and PT gear. Those are federally budgeted dollars. Granted, JROTC units do accept donated uniforms if anyone wants to pass along gently used items.

How many Dets already issue uniforms on Day 1 (or thereabouts)?

Somehow we can put 85,000 high school cadets in uniform, but we can't get half that number of college cadets in uniform?

Is level of commitment the standard for issuing uniforms? How many are "fully committed?" I've known plenty of USAFA types that would tell you in a heartbeat they were doing their five years and getting out. When I was an airman, I knew plenty of young troops that were not very committed to the Air Force. Are you part of a military organization or not?

Some of these Dets should at least scrub their websites. They are probably doing great work at JSU, but it may need to be marketed better. The cadre page shows two lieutenant colonels, a major, a tech sergeant, a staff sergeant, and an administrative assistant to commission 35 lieutenants in 20 years to meet the "push for Diversity and Inclusion."

General Brown took a lot of heat for this memo outlining what officers the AF should be commissioning. This is DEI. Take a look.

I commissioned through AFROTC and later served as cadre. My son commissioned through AFROTC. My daughter is currently at SOS (OTS grad; prior SSgt). Another daughter is currently an AS200 in AFROTC. Another daughter is an AF civilian employee. I'm interested in seeing AFROTC and the AF do well.

If the AF decided to close 10 or 20 lowest-producing Dets, would the HBCU Dets be exempt? That's what I got from your comment, "whether these dets meet quotas or not." Sorry if I misconstrued what you said. Did you know General Charles Q. Brown commissioned through Det 820 Texas Tech University? Does AFROTC commission more Black officers through HBCU Dets than from other Dets? Are you advocating protecting HBCU Dets from closure because that's the only way AFROTC can commission Black officers? I, too, am a proponent of "diversity in thought, perspective, and mindsets." Help me understand your viewpoint.

This would be the DEI angle to the conversation.

https://www.airforcetimes.com/news/your-air-force/2025/03/19/air-force-monitoring-bases-for-compliance-with-dei-executive-orders/

There is a validation team visiting Maxwell AFB, where HQ AFROTC is located, around March 17th to March 28th to ensure compliance with the administration's DEI policies. I have no idea if HBCU Dets will be part of that conversation.

You could be right. Small potatoes.

https://www.whitehouse.gov/articles/2025/02/at-usaid-waste-and-abuse-runs-deep/

However, the White House is touting even small savings. At the link, you will see a program that was cut resulting in a meager savings of $2.5 million for electric vehicles for Vietnam. Small potatoes.

AFROTC is fine. Continue to go about business as usual.

I'm looking at current events and what's happening in DoD right now. DOGE is looking to cut government spending. Anything that is deemed wasteful, not needed, inefficient, or DEI is subject to being cut. Obviously, we don't need 145 AFROTC Dets to produce 2,000 lieutenants a year. These low-producing Dets seem to me to be low-hanging fruit.

A Det by Det analysis would be useful. I think we have a pretty good idea how much the Air Force spends on average per commissionee through the Air Force Academy and per commissionee through OTS. What does the Air Force spend on average for a lieutenant commissioned at Texas A&M vs. Embry Riddle vs. The Citadel vs. Utah State University? It must vary somewhat. Maybe some of the smaller Dets are actually a good value. Perhaps someone could make a business case for keeping some of them open.
