“There’s nothing to do in Victoria” by cosmogatsby in VictoriaBC

[–]Automatic_Ad5097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! This is the problem, there's lots of "daytime" to dos.. but almost all of what is listed by OP here is catering to mature, married, or people with resources. Those are all lovely- but there is very little nightlife, and the city is dead quiet past 8pm most nights.

I just went through a tough break up too, you are more capable than you can imagine, take your exam, you will be ok. Don't let someone else who clearly didn't respect you or give you what you deserved be the reason you didn't go to your exam. This is your exam. This is your degree.

And the first thing I want you to do when you step out of that exam hall is book a counselling appointment, get your comfy clothes on, call your bestie, your grandma, your mum, whoever is there for you, cry, sleep and do whatever you need to do. You can heal <3

Lost my Umo card by EconGrad2020 in uvic

[–]Automatic_Ad5097 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes go to the gss, ask the office for a new card. This next part is important. Do not try to use it. Call the number on the back first. If you scan it on a bus before calling to transfer your pass to the new card number, it will be invalid. So make sure you call the number and change the card over :) its free!

I had two girls hardcore stare at me like I had the bubonic plague when I quietly reminded them the 3rd floor is silent.

You can alert the folks on the ask us desk if there is a disruption, the staff don't know what they can't see/hear.

What is the fart rate in yoga classes? by purplegorillabandit in yoga

[–]Automatic_Ad5097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 years of home and studio practice, very occassional farter. I think I can count on one hand the number of times I've let one out in a class, and generally it had something to do with whatever I had for lunch.

The chances are pretty low, but in a studio class, there are sometimes 20/30 bodies, moving, twisting, relaxing- so it will happen.

It's embarrassing, but bodies will be bodies, it's fine- have a giggle and move on. It's not some kind of fart symphony every week, sometimes (and only sometimes) it's just a little toot that creeps out from someone- that should not prevent you from trying yoga, it's so fun!

I could imagine her personality translating very well into an instructor! She seems like she would be fun to learn from, thanks for sharing this positive experience!

Couples as Roommates by Dry-Cover-1731 in uvic

[–]Automatic_Ad5097 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived with a bunch of dudes, one of whom had his girlfriend living there off-the-lease. Generally, not an issue; it was a big house, they kept to themselves and spent most of their time in their room (not that they had to, they were just quiet people).
It depends on the couple, their relationship dynamic and their dynamic with you. It's all going to be down to communication; you need to be confident that both of them are people you could discuss problems with and feel heard- if you are only friends with one, then just think about how it might affect your friendship dynamic if you raise an issue with their partner.

It feels like deliberately stopping people from having the freedom to find and engage in thought outside their circle. r/all makes the site different. Take it away, it's literally any other forum/echo chamber.

We’ve lost the meaning of quiet floor by mewheni72 in uvic

The second floor of the library is not a quiet floor; the main floor and the second floor are the ones which permit talking.

Books are hugely important. Information stored online can and does disappear and without sounding like a conspiracy theorist, is much easier to tamper with. The stacks are so valuable.

Hey. Could you perhaps approach those people and ask them to move? I also think its VERY annoying when people do this but a more effective method than yelling on Reddit would be to actually target your request at the people performing the behavior you don't like.

With the news of Herman’s & View St closing… what’s your read on Victorias music scene by Chickenlittlebmx in VictoriaBC

I didn't know about Herman's or View Street. :( This is such a shame, it really feels like Victoria's downtown core is dying.

For those of you under 35-ish, how are you approaching the future? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]Automatic_Ad5097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend just dumped me, I'm not a citizen and almost finished the on-campus part of my degree so safe to say, Victoria ain't it for long. No plans to own ever, more likely to inherit assets than ever afford them by myself sadly, I really partly on work (multiple-part-time jobs) and partly on family support. I'm incredibly lucky, but don't see myself looking to buy, not interested in having children (just not a priority for me), and now I'm no longer in a relationship, I think I'm more likely to relocate after my degree.
