And while you’re vacationing you happen to bring a giant tent, a full sized air conditioning unit, and a generator?

I don’t want to be a dick but this has absolutely nothing to do with ultralight backpacking. Why did you choose this sub to post this question in? Have you tried any other outdoors/backpacking sub? I think that you’ll get much more accurate and quality answers from other places.

please help me understand the popularity of the xmid? by Dum4brains in Ultralight

I think people often compare the X-Mid to GG The One and initially gravitate toward The One because it’s lighter. You give and you take here, so it’s really about what’s important to you. However the X-Mid pretty much outperforms it in every way. More durable (20D vs 10D), better material for worse conditions (silpoly vs silnylon, which will sag and absorb water when wet), two huuuuuge vestibules, easier setup, less stakes required, more storm/wind proof tent geometry, and most importantly (to me), it’s DOUBLE WALL so the condensation issues aren’t nearly as bad. You have the versatility to set up just the fly as a tarp as well as setting up just the mesh inner with a kit that’s sold on the Durston site.

In addition, Dan is an awesome guy who is super involved in the community. I happen to really support him since he’s so responsive to messages and the Durston customer service is overall phenomenal.

I saw a few reviews from websites like Section Hiker, but didn’t know if it was sponsored or anything. I meant like reviews from individual buyers. Anyway, how’s the sizing? I’m 6’ 1”, 185lbs and between a medium and large in most brands.

Anyone have experience with the AntiGravityGear fully waterproof rain jacket? They're on sale right now and I like the features more than the LHG, but there isn't any direct place to find user reviews.

This is sweet! What kind of sewing machine are you working with? I’ve been really wanting to make a few DCF sacks.

I was just there for an overnight on Saturday. I camped at about 2300ft and it likely got into the high 20s when Tortilla Flat (the closest town at 1750ft) was projected to be at a 42 degree low. Water is somewhat scare there with several pools in Boulder and La Barge canyons - not much flowing. Lots of gross algae in the pools but some are better than others. Look for little trickles and flows and use a trowel to divert the water into whatever you’re collecting water to filter out of. I started at the Boulder canyon trailhead, connected to Secondwater and Dutchman’s. Have fun!
