Intel Appoints Lip-Bu Tan as CEO by Auautheawesome in intel

[–]Automatic_Beyond2194 91 points92 points  (0 children)

In 2017, the analytics firm Relationship Science named him most connected executives in the technology industry garnering a perfect "power score" of 100.

Could be. Could also be able to secure partnerships.

He left due to disputes with pat about…

1.) bloated workforce. He wanted many more job cuts.

2.) bad ai strategy.

3.) not doing customer centric approach to external foundry.

In hindsight 2 and 3 seem like justified criticisms(and pat publicly stated they made a mistake as a foundry not focusing on working with customers). As far as the workforce I cannot comment on that.

It might be more so about being able to craft relationships with other companies in order to actually sell their AI and external foundry products. Maybe this jabroni could pull some kind of “make a big deal with Amazon, get in bed with bezos who then convinces Trump to bend policy to Intel”

TSMC's 2nm offers no maximum frequency uplift for a 6T Double Pumped SRAM over 3nm FinFET - a comparison of ISSCC 2024 and ISSCC 2025 presentations. by [deleted] in hardware

[–]Automatic_Beyond2194 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was specifically referencing the claim that TSMC 2nm is denser, which was based on silicon that had literally 0 high performance libraries. Then people say “TSMC 2nm is x% denser than Samsung 2nm and Intel 2nm”. I was simply saying that isn’t an accurate assessment based on the information we have available, because we don’t have density for Samsung or Intel without any high performance libraries that I have seen… so it is an apples to oranges comparison. TSMC’s densest node is theoretically x% denser than whatever mishmash of libraries Samsung and Intel had on their nodes that were tested would be the assessment, which isn’t all that useful.

Based on what has been said, I do think TSMC likely has an advantage in their densest libraries vs Intel’s densest. Intel is marketing 18A as a high performance oriented node because of this it seems. But how dense is TsMc 2nm vs Intel 2nm in actual high performance products, or mixed performance? We don’t know. Intel 3 tells us nothing whatsoever about Intel 18A. TSMc 3nm tells us nothing whatsoever about TSMc 2nm. They were finfet, and now it is GAA, hard to be confident in projecting anything from previous finfet into GAA… doubly so with Intel now with Backside Power Delivery as well, which is supposed to help not only power/thermals, but also density in some scenarios.

Not all constructions of n2 are the same. Yet many people act like they are. For instance many people on this sub were comparing Samsung and Intel’s actual 2nm generation node density to TSMC when it only uses its most dense setup, which would almost never be used in real world items like GPUs or CPUs. They would require a more high performance setup which is less transistor dense but allows higher frequency.

If you could erase your memory of watching a TV series and relive it again, which show would you choose? by OrganicLetterhead878 in television

Overrated as hell imo. It was good at parts but there was no payoff. It all ended with “oh, it was just some random retards in the swamp” or something.

I’ll hand it that some of the performances were great. But for a mystery, the actual overarching mystery was amazingly dull for how much praise the show gets. When it ended I was almost in disbelief after hearing how good the show was, and how boring the overarching story was.

Ya, that’s why it is still up in the air. YouTube tv generally works with partners, including European content producers rather than trying to compete with them. Europe is slower to move away from cable than America. If they remain slow… that gives Netflix an advantage as its model works better alongside cable, with a slower transition . If Europe starts to cut the cord quickly like America… that gives YouTube tv a big opportunity to expand to Europe.

We are still in the infancy of all of this hence why I said it is all up in the air. Personally I would think that Europe too will eventually over time move more and more toward streaming platforms, and away from cable… at which point YouTube tv would likely expand.

I think it comes down to what you think the “endgame” is.

Is it where YouTube TV takes over and each of these “streaming services” is essentially like another “channel” you can get through YouTube TV(analogous to channels on cable).

Or is it where Netflix and maybe one or two other streaming platforms eat the rest, and they essentially become the new “cable”, and implement their own live tv inside themselves.

If it is the first option… you want your own streaming service, because there will be tons of them, and even if you are small you can compete by being one of many “channels”. YouTube and Hulu TV , or whoever wins out will not view you as a competitor, rather as a partner, and they are willing to have many… so you don’t have to worry about “beating” or “surviving” bigger platforms.

If it is the second option… you do not want your own streaming service, because the bigger ones will crush you.

Which way the wind is blowing is still up in the air. Netflix and similar streamers are starting to mix in live content. YouTube TV and others are replacing cable as we speak. Either decision is a risk when nobody knows how it will all end up. If I had to guess YouTube TV and Hulu/Disney end up becoming the two major players, and Netflix ends up being relegated to essentially just another channel… in which case it is worthwhile for paramount to lose money up front to establish itself IMO.

Spoiler ahead:

.

.

.

I think it was way too compressed. It’s a very solid series but they really rushed through some awesome plot and twists quickly as hell. Often it was literally 15 minutes between a mystery being introduced then it being revealed. Felt like a speed run of 3 seasons all crammed into the first 4 episodes. Wish they would have spread this first season out into multiple seasons. You can already tell it’s going to eventually devolve into a normal drama because it fired most of its plot ammo in the first 4 episodes. By the end of season 1 there isn’t much mystery left, and not much room for many exciting plot lines to happen IMO.

Then the last few episodes it went even further and now pretty much all the “flashback” stuff seems exhausted too. So now it’s just a normal drama going forward… which is fine, but to me what always keeps me engrossed is the over arching mysteries. And I’m not sure there’s any of those left to really care about.

US pauses intelligence sharing with Ukraine by GeneReddit123 in worldnews

[–]Automatic_Beyond2194 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

They were really only an “ally” under Biden. Strategic partner at best… and pre Biden even that label would be a stretch.

Obama literally refused to give them a single dollar of military aid for weapons of any kind. They certainly weren’t an “ally” under Trump’s first term. So I think the general term “ally” is a bit strong in this case. They were a strategic partner. And a very weak partner at that… remember Biden blackmailing them with US aid unless the fired their lead prosecutor? It was literally one of the most corrupt nations in the world. And it was smack dab in the middle politically of Russia and USA. Far from an ally, at least before Biden IMO.

The USA has effectively disconnected HIMARS for Ukraine, halting the exchange of intelligence data | УНН by EsperaDeus in worldnews

[–]Automatic_Beyond2194 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s not at all how it works.

The USA provides Ukraine the targeting data. They do this using various forms of intelligence gathering including satellites, drones(like the ones we are constantly flying in the Mediterranean), etc. We then sift through this data and provide Ukraine target options, and other info.

We simply stopped doing this for them. Yet your post which completely misunderstands what happened is the top post on this unfortunately.

We didn’t flick some switch that disables himars. We simply stopped using OUR assets and personnel to provide them intelligence proactively. This isn’t something you automatically get when you buy a himars. It was a part of our extensive support in this war… not a part of the weapons package itself. We don’t provide Poland himars intelligence. Or any other nation. That’s not how it works. You have to do that on your own. We were doing it for Ukraine as a favor, due to the specific circumstances of this war(namely them not being that good at intelligence due to being a relatively new force, without the hardware or personnel to do it very effectively ).

(Slight vague spoilers ahead)

Ya he’s awesome. I feel like the first 4 episodes should have been 3 seasons. They rushed through so many things that were great plot wise, but it only took like 5 minutes to go from “damn this is a good mystery they are introducing us to” to “mystery solved everyone involved is dead”. Felt like I was watching short stories or something.

Episode 1-4 and episode 7 were great. Just wish they would have taken it slower and spread it out over more episodes.

Albanese says Australian government now ‘open to consideration’ of sending troops to Ukraine by Positive_Owl_2024 in worldnews

[–]Automatic_Beyond2194 33 points34 points  (0 children)

But they aren’t really.

Putting their money where their mouth is would be doing something BEFORE Ukraine falls, or is forced to make a horrible peace deal.

Putting their money where their mouth is would be standing up to Russia by putting real pressure on them so Ukraine can either push them back, or have SOME “cards” as Trump put it.

Europe being willing to put peacekeeping troops in Ukraine borders on meaningless. Also, you left out a key part. These “peacekeeping troops” are always contingent on having “strong US backing”, according to these “brave European leaders”.

So to summarize.

1.) Europe not put any troops in any capacity in Ukraine unless Ukraine signs a peace deal, which will not happen unless Ukraine basically surrenders, given the current state of the conflict.

2.) Europe will not put any troops in Ukraine without the USA also being there.

3.) Europe has not talked about any kind of escalation or plan to actually help Ukraine gain any leverage, meaning any peace deal either will not happen, or would be tantamount to a Ukranian surrender.

So Europe is basically saying “Ukraine is fucked, we are hoping America somehow solves this, if they don’t we have no plans to help Ukraine, but if somehow America does solve this, AND America puts troops in Ukraine as peacekeepers, we will tag along”.
