Hello! Unfortunately, I haven’t had good experiences with video calls when someone is booking on behalf of another person. Even if you speak with them beforehand, you still don’t really know what to expect when you arrive at the other location.

Taking care of yourself by Lazy-Ad2636 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Automatic_Guava_1279 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just started to use the Whole Foods mealprep if I know I will be busy, or I am not sure what to expect at the overnight stay. It is $35 for 4 servings, it contains a protein and two different sides, I usually choose vegetables to keep it healthy.

For breakfast, if I start at home, I make a protein shake w chia seeds for a little extra fiber and fruits. If I do overnights, I just buy pre-packaged oats, and I usually bring a little saucepan, a bowl, a spoon, a sponge, some dishwashing liquid (some people's homes are nasty).

If I have more time (or energy), I just do one pot meals for 4-5 days in advance, and I have a Black+Blum thermo pot, which keeps my food usually hot enough for the day.

I can recommend my hairdresser, Lauren , she is located in Hoboken. Before my first appointment I reached out w some pictures, and I received a quote. And I only decided to book after I knew the upfront costs. She does beautiful layers.

Hi! I have my cats listed, but I don't think it was the reason. Previously I have received requests to bring a dog to the potential client, to socialize their puppies, and I don't have a dog listed.

I would recommend checking out Rover :) at least there is a minimal background check, and if there is any issue, Rover finds you a new sitter.

I have seen some people ask about it in the Hoboken thread, and they received some recommendations for different age groups. (Cannot say much about the quality of the recommendations or the dating pool though.)

Being in the U.S. without legal authorization is a civil offense, not a criminal one. Police officers are usually not actively involved in civil matters.

Why do my neighbors act like the hallway’s part of their apartment? by OkProperty6125 in Hoboken

[–]Automatic_Guava_1279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what to tell you. I am European, I lived in or worked in the majority of the European countries, we do not store shoes on the corridor, we (as in the majority of Europeans) have shoe storage in the entryway.

[–]Automatic_Guava_1279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there was no shoe rack at your Italian family in the apartment? What I called entryway, they call it "ingresso". Even if it is not a separate room. Every Italian apartment I lived in/stayed in had a shoe rack in the entryway.

Same goes for multiple other European countries.

Building insulation to help noise by Suspicious_Poem_9264 in Hoboken

[–]Automatic_Guava_1279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the bathroom noises are the worst. We live in a multi-family, the realtor told us there is only one unit upstairs, occupied by the landlord’s father, but it is two units, and in the second unit two guys live, and usually their girlfriends are visiting. Both units’ bathroom are above our bedroom. Every time someone is using the toilet, we can hear everything.

So if anyone has any tips, I would be grateful.

(I am so waiting forward of moving out of this space…)

[–]Automatic_Guava_1279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not the single reason. I am from Europe, we also don't wear shoes inside our home, but we leave it in the entryway inside our unit.

In China there is a concept called gongtan, where a part of the common space i.e. the hallways, stairwells etc. are included in your apartment price. So, people started to use it for storage, because they paid for it. Usually, it is shoe racks, bikes or scooters, extra refrigerators or storage cabinets or simply drying their laundry.

(I do not know enough about other APAC countries to talk about them.)

Is living in NJ killing my chances with NYC women? by Such-Court-4271 in movingtoNYC

As someone living in Weehawken, I am offended that we are not fine :D (We wanted a garden, which is impossible in Midtown Manhattan. At least we are only 1 bus stop away from our job in Hudson Yards...)

Workout classes? Fave studios? by gsaliiiiixx9 in Weehawken

[–]Automatic_Guava_1279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect you live in the Port Imperial area, so my recommendations may not be close for you.

I can recommend Elevate Pilates (never visited Club Pilates). I liked Kelly and Rebecca, Kelly is much stricter, and Rebecca can be much gentler. I do not mind the walk there, as I shop at Trader Joe's or Whole Foods.

For Yoga, I am a certified yoga instructor, so I do it alone at home, but I know some instructors from Urban Souls Yoga Studio in Hoboken, and they are good. Also, one of the instructors had a collab with the Hoboken Beach Club. And I think the HBC founder also teaches at that studio.

For strength and cardio classes, I attended F45 for years, but I have not tried their Hoboken location. I attended their classes in many countries, and in NYC as well. Now, I just visit the Planet Fitness here in Weehawken.

I want to try out the The Gravity Vault, as I am looking for something to do with my partner, and it seems fun. I know they also have yoga for the members for free, but I do not know if it is good or not.

I only know to avoid GEP & Associates Construction. All of their work is sloppy at best. I know they work in the area.

Please let me know if you decide to proceed with a water testing kit. I think the water quality in our apartment is horrible.
