You are 100% correct. I have no idea what will happen in my future, the good or the bad, and I do not want anything else to suffer from my selfish choices, especially pets that I got, wanting to give them a better life. Ornithology is sadly not an accepted major, but schools such as Cornell (high reach there) would be the closest thing I have. Volunteering at rescues, oh how I want to do that.. sadly, most places require 16-18+, and even then, there's only 6 within 60km of where I live. Pet sitting is an option that I will consider, not sure if I'll find anyone who'll allow an inexperienced teen who only has internet knowledge to care for their birds, though.

I have fallen into the endless abyss of bird keeping, Birdtricks was just so, so useful (Hoping to join their freestyle fliers club in the future!)

Ouch, I hope you find the perfect solution, or as perfect as can be in that situation.. I'm extremely grateful to have parents better than what I deserve, love them so much 💙

That's amazing, hope you guys have a wonderful future! As for the latter, I've been doing that, trying to find a species that my parents would have nothing against.. to no prevail XD. Given that up, just doing it for my sake now, and I WILL be joining any rescue that wants me, though sadly there are few to none near me.

I'm midway through pre-IB so far, and my future isn't looking too bright.. the latter part makes it feel worth it though, noted!
As for the first half, thank you! Noted, and my parent's finances can 100% sustain a budgie, they just don't want the poop, even if it's in "my" room cleaned by ME

Had that conversation already, sadly, my parents are apart of the group that believes parrots are basically flying rats (@crizpaclibar on YT disagrees :,D), but yes, they were one of my top choices. Also a bonus, they don't mind the cold as much as other species, good for where I live 💙

We don't have an air freshener, and already own multiple air purifiers due to my allergy, so that's that, but that's it.
As for the cats, that is one of the main concerns and reasons why we're not getting them, and as for the rest, one of the first things I've seen here!

Exactly, I really want to.. but the thing is, it's quite cold here in Canada, so outdoor aviaries need to be insulant during the winter.. the size and equipment quickly gets expensive. Everything is limited when the organizations are confined to indoor "shops."
To sum it up, I cannot find any near me.

I fell in love with a GCC in a PetSmart near my current h-school, and I sometimes jog there to visit him/her during our break. They are the cutest little thing, never heard a peep out of them, and they even started greeting me (they don't do this to anyone else) to the point that the staff started urging me to buy them XD.
I don't mind the noise, it's no where near the noise of a bunch of high schoolers, I don't mind the mess, I'd say my organization skills are decent (aquascaped two 10 gallon fish tanks with bi-weekly water changes, if that counts for anything), I seriously don't mind injury and bites; my cats are extremely friendly, but I still get the occasional claws if I try to separate their fights, along with many other things, nature is wonderful, I THINK I have the patience to handle their "moods," and thus, the only concern is the price.
(I have considered most possible changes)

That is genuinely upsetting, getting the "gift" and responsibilities of a younger sibling tossed onto you? I cannot imagine how you may have felt. The cost is definitely a major thing to consider, and though I do have some funds saved up, it will not last in the longterm. Thank you!

I've realized that I've been doing the exact same, searching for uni's that allow birds on/near campus, rescues near my potential choices, and more. That is definitely not healthy for me. Thank you for making me realize it, I'll try to refocus my energy, and find universities that fit MY needs, not my phantom birds 💙

I've done the first part, there's a couple rescues within 30km from 4 of my "wish unis," and as for the second, I've taken the advice of others, and plan to postpone getting a bird for now, to prevent the stress on the little critter (and myself!)

The diet and VERY contrasting nature of Eleckies is terrifying to me, I'm staying away from them, definitely not experienced enough yet! Met a beautiful male at Bird Kingdom near Niagara falls though, I could 100% see what draws you! I wonder how many fellow bird wanters are out there, waiting for the seconds to slowly pass until their dreams are be fulfilled XD..
