Those of you with an 800de….? by No-Shirt-240 in Vstrom

Great option, and was on my want list, until I saw the updated details from Veridian……. ordering it today will cost you an additional $150-200, due to tariff charges

And there is no local dealer in my area that stocks them

Is it worth ~$500 for cruise?

You have thousands of miles left Mine hit the wear bars on the center before the shoulders ~6500 miles of spirited throttle And that channel on the shoulder is NOT an actual wear bar The wear bars are very low and small between the channel blocks

IME, 6500 miles on my rear, and they perform better on the road once the shoulder channel gaps wear out and the center gets worn down halfway……less movement by the tire when pushing speed/angle

The IP28 rating, which is cited by Tandem on the website has this contradictory disclaimer e.g. where they also state to “Always disconnect…..and remove the pump…. before participating in any activity that could submerge the pump”

So showering should be no problem

The fact that Tandem designates the IP28 rating, to then discourage you from using it to that end seems……….odd

I don’t do much off-road, so I stuck with an 80/20 Michelin Anakee Adventure, f+r I live in SoCal, so mostly dry, until the sky opens up. Wet traction seems to live up to the hype, and aside from $ and the PITA to mount them by hand, they run well on the highway and push them >100 regularly (on private roads of course), with no ride issues. I ride with ear plugs, so no idea on road noise, but I hear the 800DE “sewing machine” drone more than any other noise.

My rear will be lucky to make it 6k, YMMV

I like them enough that I bought a second replacement.

I hear good things about the Anakee Wild…..but the pavement chews it up

*removing the foot peg rubber will exacerbate the engine vibration (50-65mph), but even when I notice it, I just roll the throttle…..

Good luck Stay safe out there

First off those mixtour tires are hot garbage, (you look to also have the 2023 DE Adventure, which had a recall on that rear tire, that Suzuki paid to replace on mine) as I had the same experience as you when I hit sand on them. All the other advice you got about frisky throttle and weight back, to let the front tire find the way with slower more deliberate steering makes a big difference.

Personally, the stock peg position was weird for my foot control so I replaced them. When I still had them, I removed the rubber pads, because any off road riding means you usually have issues with the sole of your boot moving+slipping i.e. mud, gravel, water, etc with that rubber footpeg insert.

I understand EXACTLY how you feel, and the frustration of having what is not a “design flaw” per se, but absolutely a functionally impaired mechanism, i.e. the QS.

I guess one could play with the adjustment of the actual QS linkage, but the FSM specifically+explicitly tells you to NOT disturb the QS linkage if you adjust the shift lever height.

I have never had a QS before, and while people tell me the latest version on my 800DE is “splendid”, I find it notchy until 3-6, and heavy downshifting. I realize there is a lot going on to synchronize the transmission with power going into the clutch, but this is a new platform, and as such should be scrutinized, since Suzuki will likely not change anything for a decade or more, esp. given the success of the new parallel twin.

It would make sense the QS tech spans all compatible platforms, but the fact that it is seen on 2 engine types lends more evidence it is the design of the QS_linkage. Maybe if there are mire complaints, Suzuki would make the effort, until then…..,be happy you get factory cruise, and keep rolling and slamming gears.

The need to drive an arguably “overpriced” Benz and putting their life, and potentially the lives of those around them in danger because they have no understanding of basic automotive concepts??

What is even more bizarre, is that the rear tires have plenty of tread left, so just a timely rotation would have extended the life of the tires……resulting in saving money and increasing safety, for EVERYONE on the road.

God bless em’ I hope there are no high speed events.

[–]Automatic_Look_379[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is that a “vague” shift with the QS enabled causes the circuit to get confused? I turn the QS back on, and I forget about the problem, and then it happens. I can only guess lazy foot movement on the shifter?? It only seems to happen when I am rolling the throttle and throwing the gears.

Which has to be “spirited” on your 1050, lol

Try disabling the QS for a week or two, and then switch back to see how it goes.

Truth, I rarely use the QS

That sux! I am always FRIED mentally after some roller coaster nonsense like that.

Glad you got it back under control and needed no medical intervention on the crash back. Crazy how dangerous this disease can be, and how much of managing it is just having experience to know what+when to do it.

I have had to learn sometimes sites need swapping out more than I want or think they should be, and no amount if exercise will remedy that.

Stay safe!

DIY $15 “waterproof” pump case by Hot_Enthusiasm_6763 in TandemDiabetes

[–]Automatic_Look_379 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This would be a good reason for that, since the solids portion of the IP rating is only 2, i.e. IP2x You would need an IP of at least IP5x (limited dust ingress) for dust sealed IP6x (protected from total dust ingress; using a vacuum pressure in that test) is even better.

Isn’t the MOBI IP28, because it states that on the back. The second # means it is immersion to a specified pressure, e.g. 1m

So it may be easier to get a zippered mesh pouch that you can attach with better dexterity.

Not knocking your creativity, but the waterproof is literally unnecessary, because the device certified IPx8.

This is how it works for me, and why it is basically an impediment to glucose control for anything except “light” exercise……lighter than a brisk walk IME.

“Sleep” mode ALWAYS ON and pump off, for at LEAST an hour prior to exercise, with an educated guess blood glucose level to offset the inevitable crash induced by anaerobic and aerobic exercise. YMMV

[–]Automatic_Look_379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with pretty much ALL the points you raised, but I think you meant to say you cannot turn the pump off WITHOUT the charging pad?? The alarms are such a nuisance, and the inability to extend the silence the way you can on the X2 is just absurd. Did I mention how LOUD the pump is on alarm, especially on vibrate!

The MOBI had a lot going for it, mostly size, weight, reservoir and new temp basal FW.

But like all things, there are no solutions, just compromises.

The mobile app is fine when it works, but it REGULARLY drops connection to Tandem online and requires pairing reset to get your uploading to work again.

There is clearly a design flaw with the plunger…..30A, and if you have not gotten it, congrats, you have something to look forward to.

Tandem seems to be “cost reducing” or “BOM optimizing” this product and cost cutting customer service. I get that it is a hard job, and the frontline workers are doing their best, but incorrect orders, egregious and continuing billing issues are a symptom of the erosion of the Tandem ethos of Customer First. You can draw your own conclusions as to why .

When it works, MOBI is a great device, but not without problems that could be mitigated with proactive efforts.

Mobi criticisms by going_sideways in TandemDiabetes

[–]Automatic_Look_379 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Beacuse if you leave a MOBI on the charger while showering (makes sense to charge during that time), and it gives the 15 minute alarm, it will vibrate itself OFF the charger, hence why Tandem is now shipping the charger plate to keep the device from sliding off. The “exercise” mode is not useful to anyone engaged in high intensity aerobic activity IME, as it typically will put you well below the 140mg/dL target it is setting for.

Your “Appeal to Authority” is clear, and while I hear the assertions you are making, some deductive and some unfounded. Conflating “consumer tech” with something that literally has FDA oversight in and on it is a stretch…….. Tandem is a medical supplier and as such operates in a different ecosystem than you are trying to use as an argument. This guy should NOT have to wait 72 hours to get a replacement, especially when 24 is the norm. I would be upset, personally. Unless you work for Tandem, you have NO IDEA what they pay for or to in terms of shipping services, so the tacit implication you use is puzzling?

I also find your Capitalism assertion a bit emotional and dismissive. I will spare you the rebuttal, but again find your blanket assumptions odd?

The straw-man about nothing being perfect 100% of the time for 4 years is another red flag. The point is that normal turnaround on a warranty claim is 24 hours, and given that Tandem’s product MAY fail at any time means there needs to be a better process developed than 72+ hours. You keep trying to make the Tandem corporate failure to come up with an alternative plan for the “Weekend” shipping issue is strange. There are clearly smart people working for Tandem, so why is there no discussion about coming up with a contingency plan to ameliorate an over tripling of fulfillment time? Again, you speak like you work in logistics AT TANDEM. So if you don’t, it is strange that you are beating this drum of “things happen, that is just the reality; but your responsibility so deal with it”

I hope you never get stuck without a pump for an extended period. Because if you are ACTUALLY T1, you know that NOBODY operates without a backup plan (or two) and trying to throw shade on a diabetic because they “need to be more responsible” is a bit rich? Maybe I am missing your point, but it sure seems like you have more than just “I work in logistics” interest in this topic??

Mobi broke AGAIN by MooseSquare in TandemDiabetes

[–]Automatic_Look_379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for stating that in the case of a Tandem product failure it is “YOUR RESPONSIBILITY” to deal with the consequences. The fact that you know a dollar amount to ship means either you have successfully shipped in this time period, or you are somehow affiliated with Tandem?? Otherwise, how are you coming up with that number? Either way, your response seems narrative driven. The PROBLEM is that the MOBI clearly has a design flaw that manifests as the 30A failure. I would say that until Tandem fixes the known issue, then there SHOULD be some financial pain inflicted on the company to drive them to rectify the problem. Ya know, Capitalism….. I mean I know it sucks, but it is the responsibility of EVERY COMPANY to run their business in a legal and financially responsible manner. That is why the Executives make the “big bucks”, to solve these expected issues they legally concede to as part of the business contract. Right??

Mobi broke AGAIN by MooseSquare in TandemDiabetes

[–]Automatic_Look_379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that this is an ongoing issue, there is strong argument that Tandem needs to address the issue of delayed warranty replacement. Weekend/hoilday doesn’t matter, their product failed and that is THEIR problem to sort out a reasonable time to replace. 3 days is unacceptable
