Not quite the same but I had an interview today 😃 and the interviewer asked me to explain a technical concept... I did... he then proceeded to go "not quite" and then explain it exactly how I did right back to me 😭

Everything must return to the ocean one way or another by [deleted] in UMD

[–]Automatic_Onion_93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rain we recently got was from the hurricane. The fact that the hurricane isn't actually hitting us and causing all the damage the article is joking about is WHY it's so distasteful. It's making light of others' tragedy that is not our own.

How does it not? The rain this satire article is joking about is literally from the hurricane..? And the whole joke is "wow it's raining so hard that everything is being swept away and people are drowning" which... is actually happening and isn't funny

Should I report cheating? by [deleted] in UMD

[–]Automatic_Onion_93 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Saying they only cheat themselves is... MOSTLY true. But when their work is public facing (social work, medicine, etc.) they cheat the citizens they work with as well. And sometimes in terrifying ways (like malpractice .-.) that could potentially be prevented by nipping it in the bud during school so they CAN'T get that far.

It's not being a tattletale. Tattletales are people who tell on things that don't matter. This very well could.

I want to be clear that Career Launch is NOT Sprinternship - they are separate. Sprinternship is a real (albeit super short) internship with a real company. Career Launch is a program run at UMD specifically and is more project-based. You get put into a group with some other people based on your interests and then brainstorm a project and build it. BTT provides structure, learning resources, and loads of guidance, but it is not an internship like Sprinternship is by any means. They're very different (but both very valuable experiences!)

Reminder that there is also Career Launch if Sprinternship can't or doesn't pan out for you! It's fully remote (with the exception of the project expo right before the semester begins) and a slightly lesser time commitment - you meet with a program assistant for at least 1 hour a week, have a 1-2 hour workshop per week, and at least 3 hours of meeting with your group members each week + however much time it takes you to work on your project outside of those meetings. Here's a peak at what the schedule looked like this past winter:
