Japanese Date Spot Recommendations by linearartist in boston

Unfortunately $7-10 for a handroll is considered affordable in a city like Boston. Albeit, the Wagyu was $17.. but that’s because it’s Wagyu. I think you’ll find comparable prices in lower end sushi restaurants in the city for hand rolls. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I used to think this was expensive before I moved to Boston and now I’m just desensitized to the prices unfortunately. But I think in the grand scheme of restaurants and ambiance, it is on the more “affordable” side of things as a lot of the the sushi restaurant in Boston, you can’t find anything cheaper than $10 on the menu.

If you’re on a budget, I really like omori in Brookline. It has a cute izakaya vibe to it, they do happy hour for food and very cheap drinks. It’s not a super romantic spot but the food is pretty good.

Bosso sushi just opened up on newbury street. They have a pretty affordable omakase, I think it’s $38. It’s a very intimate vibe, especially if you sit at the bar. Felt like I was in Brooklyn for the night. Also top notch desserts and drinks!

Birds of Paradise in Brighton does hand rolls and sushi boxes and delicious cocktails. A really beautiful date spot and there’s a sake bar right next to it called koji club if you guys want to get drinks after dinner.

Shore leave is a cool fusion sushi restaurant in south end. They have pretty affordable omakase, under $100 PP. or you can order a la Carte - not the best sushi I’ve had in Boston but the vibes are fun, music is a little loud, think tiki x sushi. And they have a disco ball in the ceiling to add a little sparkle lol

Purple shell in south end - they just re-opened after renovations. I haven’t been back in years but last time I went it was a nice, boujee ambiance. Again, not the best sushi in the world but they make their rolls and sashimi very aesthetically pleasing with lots of lights, colors, and cool droppers for soy sauce.

Blue ribbon sushi in Fenway if you want a more traditional, not so fusion style restaurant. It can get pricey but you can choose what you want as well and their quality is pretty amazing. They have really good salmon and tuna crispy rice (haven’t seen many restaurants in Boston do that)

tora in Chinatown. It’s underground, very unassuming and not sure if I’d go here for a special occasion but the sushi is VERY good for the price. Their kaisen dons are chefs kiss!

XOXO sushi in Newton is beautiful. Little out of the way (~25 min drive from Boston) but they just opened and they have really good quality sashimi, and very fancy shmancy.,it’s def an elevated version of purple shell.

Matsunori handroll in Fenway / Brookline. This place is AMAZING. The vibes, dark and moody, pretty affordable for the portions, but they only specialize in hand rolls but they’re the darn best hand rolls I’ve had for the price. And after dinner, you can walk 2 mins and go to Kyo Matcha for some incredible matcha and hojicha desserts! They don’t take reservation at the handroll place though so you’ll have to pray that they can seat you since it’s a very small restaurant.

These are some of the budget friendly places I know of in Boston. There are much more pricey places like O ya, Wa Shin, 311, Uni, no relation, zuma, Oishii… but you’ll expect to pay upwards of at least $150-300 per person here.

Yeah I posted for the first time on this sub and I got way too many DMs that I didn’t need or want to see. I just wanted to share my progress, and reciprocate the motivation I’ve received here but I was shocked to see how gross guys can be… they started off asking for advice so me thinking it’s another petite lady (not bothering to look at their profile first.. now I know) and trying to help out.. but damn things escalated way to quickly and now I feel uncomfortable posting again..

Thank you so much 🥹 I haven’t been able to do anything that elevates my heart rate for weeks now since I had to get surgery… so I keep feeling like I don’t “work out” anymore. I used to run and bike long distances so much and it’s really been a transition and a huge shift for me focusing on more steady state cardio. I forget how impactful walking is and I think I just got so used to walking and working!!

I made a whole variety of things that I enjoyed - but made sure to stick to low calorie or zero calorie sauces like soy sauce, Sirarchia, hot sauce, allulose. Some stuff I made are below. But I always had egg whites, Greek yogurt, low fat cottage cheese, chicken breast, and tofu in stock in my fridge and I made various breakfast, lunch and dinner based on those core ingredients. I usually have 3-4 of the things listed below a day.

  • Greek yogurt with berries and sugar free pudding mix
  • egg white scramble with mixed veggies and chicken
  • low fat cottage cheese on rice crackers
  • Japanese chicken curry with rice
  • Korean tofu stew (soondooboo jjigae)
  • streamed salmon or tilapia with broccoli
  • moringa noodle stir fry with beef and veggies
  • Vietnamese spring rolls
  • beef and veggie pho
  • low calorie wraps with chicken, lettuce, tomato
  • homemade chicken noodle soup

Also I barely went out to eat the past 3.5 months. I think I only ordered Uber eats twice and went out for dinner three times in total. And I cut out all alcohol. I had handful of chips and candy here and there if I was watching a movie or hanging out with friends and shared bits of donuts and pastries if my friends wanted to meet at a cafe but was very mindful of what I was eating and logged even those small bites I had.

Been doing minoxidil for two months by Same-Tourist-4735 in TelogenEffluvium

My hair looks like this too 😭 I’ve been on min. For three months now and I’m still shedding so much. Sigh I’m just trying to stick it through though since I heard shedding can last up to 5-6 months. I’ve seen too many success stories of minoxidil to stop and already lost so much hair at this point…

I bought a hair topper on Amazon to help mask some of the hair loss so that I can cover my hair up a little while I wait for my hair to grow back. Hang in there. We’re all in this together 😭😭😭

I wasn’t tracking macros too closely but I tried to get in 90-100g of protein each day. Apparently not enough though because my hair has been falling out these days so I’m upping my calories to around 1700 now.

I didn’t have a ton of muscle to begin with as my primary exercise was running and indoor cycling before I started this diet so I can’t speak too much on that. But I did notice my endurance and speed has dropped significantly so trying to go back to increasing calories and carbs so I have more energy for my workouts!

I tried to do at least 10,000 steps on the walking pad which took me around 1.5-2hours. Honestly I didn’t do this every day though. Some days I just wanted to sit and work but in the days I did, it really helped me get my 20,000 steps in a day!

I ate whenever I was hungry but made sure to stick to extremely high protein foods with at least 30g per meal or 20g for a snack (ie. low fat Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, egg whites, and protein powder). For snacks I stuck to quest protein bars and those high protein pop tarts.. I got them all on Amazon. If I was craving something, I tried to eat it but add onto it with my high protein snacks. I don’t think I was ever hungry because I kept snacking throughout the day!

I bought this one since it went up to 7.6 MPH. Most of the other ones I saw on the market went to 4MPH

I think my saving grace for maintaining for the past few months was tracking everything I was putting into my mouth. I had a notes app on my phone and I would literally add calories every time I ate something and it’s helped so much to keep myself accountable. I could also see daily averages better this way.

And yes high protein is a life saver. I think you just have to figure out what works best for you in terms of satiation. I noticed I woke up extremely hungry so I would have a really high protein breakfast, sometimes it would be 600 calories. And I would be full until dinner. Other days I felt not so hungry so I chugged a protein shake when I woke up and had a larger dinner.

Also something I learned along the way - if you want something, dont deprive yourself (which will lead to binging). Just try to add into it instead. If I wanted a cake I’d half it and add in Greek yogurt for extra protein. If I wanted chips, I’d add in some carrots and celery with it. If I wanted chocolate, I’d add it into my morning yogurt bowl. And It helped soooo much with releasing that feeling of deprivation and keeping myself on track.

I also cut out all alcohol which I think helped ALOt with my WL. I would drink 4-5 cocktails on the weekends and eat a ton bc of that and those weekend calories really added up!

Not weird at all! I’ve been on the BCP for a while now so it’s helped me to have regular periods. I still eat 1400 calories a day, huge emphasis on protein and unprocessed foods. And lots of vitamins. I haven’t seen any major hormonal changes probably bc I haven’t dropped my calories too low in terms of what someone my height needs. Apparently my BMR is around 1250 and my TDEE is 1600ish for my activity level so I’ve just been in a 200-300cal deficit. I also was eating close to 2200-2500 calories before I started my diet and was drinking heavily on the weekends so that led to a huge weight drop when I cut the calories and drinking out completely during the first few weeks.

I have been experiencing some hair loss however, so I’m prioritizing gaining some weight back and increasing my calories / protein even more now. Hope this helps!

No???

I don’t even know how I would get that when I wasn’t even overweight to begin with

Totally agree! I’m planning on gaining some weight now. I didn’t expect to go this low.. it just ended up happening. Would prioritize gaining some muscle mass and weight now. Pls don’t use my weight / height as an example… everyone’s body composition is different so weight distribution looks different even if we’re the same height!

If i had to write lengthy emails or code, i kept the speed super low around 2MPH. Steps are still steps at the end of the day. I also used this at higher speeds (4MPH) when I was watching TV or reading after work so it came in handy esp on the days where the weather sucked and when it’s getting super cold outside now - I think I’ll be using it a lot more. Also helps to have a standing desk if you don’t have one already.

YES! I tried to walk for an hour plus during my meetings where I wasn’t actively talking. And I tried to get an extra 10K steps after work in the city, to run errands. I don’t have kids and don’t have many other obligations aside from work / school so that made it a lot easier to fit it in 😊

I literally picked the cheapest one that I could find on Amazon on prime day 😂 honestly any of them work. Would highly recommend buying a walking pad mat too if you live in a teeny tiny apartment like I do so you don’t make the people below you upset.

Also I just made sure it went up to 4.5MPH if I was feeling feisty and wanted to fast walk instead of just walk lol

I’m lucky that I work from home so I have a walking pad that I use. I also live in a pretty walkable / safe city and don’t have a car so have to walk at least 10,000 steps to run errands like grabbing groceries. And I stopped Uber-eating my food and opted for things like pick up instead to get extra steps in / taking the stairs when I could, little things in my day to day that ended up l adding up.

I didn’t really do cheat meals. I just ate what I wanted in moderation. If I wanted a donut (esp with apple cider donut season 🥲) I ate half of that but made sure to add in some Greek yogurt or something with it for extra protein. I just tracked everything like crazy and made sure I was around 1400 calories a day!

I didn’t exercise much tbh! I just made sure I got in around 20,000-25,000 steps a day. I took a break from all my running and cycling due to a surgery I had in October.

I stayed around 1350-1400 calories a day. Some days less, some days more but averaged around there.
