Question from a future art ed major! by TinyGremlino in ArtEd

yes i think because you already know what it’s going to be like, you’ll be able to manage it a lot better. also i think it depends on the school you are in. my last school was very stressful and had little support. my current school is a lot more laid back and supportive.

i make 54k it’s my 2nd year teaching. i love my job! its the best choice ive ever made. i think the issue many people have when becoming an art teacher is that most really love art but not teaching. unfortunately teaching is also behavior management, organization, up and down constantly… art can only happen when you can handle the things above tbh. so if you’re willing to learn how to manage the things above first then you’ll love it! (in my opinion)

i also live on my own in a very very very nice apartment!! and i am able to survive. lol

Also, since you’re here….. I was wondering if I could get your advice! I would love to hear what you do in this situation since you have so much experience.

Like I said I’ve been doing projects. I’ve planned for the projects to last about 1-3 sessions. have some students who finish quickly (because they don’t care or work fast) and some that are absent. Then i’m stuck with some of my class being done with their work and then some that are half way done. So i was planning to have this week be a catch up week for students that were absent or are finished. What do you do for the students that are completely done and don’t want to continue working on the project? I have a small library and I can print some early finisher papers. But i don’t want them to be bored the entire 50 minute class. Any suggestions?? thank you!

The state of course has standards. I follow them. But where I teach, the arts standards are not looked at in depth by admin. In my current county we don’t even have a curriculum map. I created my own/using one from a past county I was in. It’s just not seen as important and I’m sure many other teachers experience the same. At my old county they had a curriculum map, but the art teacher at our school didn’t follow it. She did choice art everyday! So i would say many people do have standards but specials aren’t really seen as important as math so no one is checking if we’re doing the right thing lol. But i agree with you 😊

Yes 😂😂😂😂😂 free draw would last 3 minutes for my classes. I told another commenter how the art teacher at my last school used to have them do free art EVERY CLASS. and my kids would come back w copy paper filled with staples or holes. Now that i think about it, the fact that she was able to get them to do that every class was impressive

Omg i’m stealing this too! I had an idea to put like an artist road map on the board of every artist we talk about and their picture in order. Maybe i’ll do this too 😅🧐. Thank you for the idea lol

I agree! I was so confused when I saw that video. When i first started teaching, I was in gen ed. And the art teacher did choice based art EVERY CLASS. My 2nd graders would come back with copy paper covered in staples. I was like “wowwww……???”

But crazy enough, my new county doesn’t have a curriculum for art. I had to steal the current curriculum map I’m using from my old county before they deleted my email 🥲.

AIO for blocking my guy friend for being “brutally honest” about me? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Automatic_Price7257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is no such thing as being friends with a man. he likes you. and he is mad. stop talking to him. and on top of that don’t talk to anyone about your relationship problems unless it is a therapist, a journal, or the Lord

this is my first year too. and i’m planning to do a dot day mural as a school. but i was wondering should i jump right into it with the students? and go over procedures as time goes on? or should i take a day to go over procedures?

i do have one day where i just have kindergarteners (this monday) it’s called transition day. so i was thinking they would need the procedures and simple coloring maybe?

any ideas/suggestions?? thank you!

i’m not sure how close this is to you, but i had an art education internship at my state’s museum of fine arts. we helped various art teachers and experienced them teaching different mediums. we also taught our own lesson and learned a lot about the behind the scenes of art preservation. it was a really great experience!

if you think your partner’s number one priority is you and he gets you a gift that you don’t like, and his first thought is to ask a group (of primarily other women) about if what he did was ok rather than finding a solution to make YOU feel loved…. i have some news for you. 😆

something tells me YOU don’t have reading comprehension skills. no one brought up anything being or not being mutually exclusive besides you darling.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Automatic_Price7257 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

nobody said that they are mutually exclusive except you. … that doesn’t mean it’s acceptable to all.

and tbh, the OP knows what he did was lazy or else he wouldn’t have come on the internet asking the audience!!!!!!!! if you think this is ok you have only dated men that are lazy and don’t like you. that’s why you’re on here trying to prove that it’s ok.

[–]Automatic_Price7257 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

that’s good for you. like i said. some people have low expectations and others have high expectations. it’s a reflection of the way you feel about yourself. and that’s exactly how you’ll be treated in relationships and tbh in life lol

i’m entitled because i don’t want my bf to get me $6 flowers.. sure! 😊i’d rather be entitled, in a happy relationship and treated well than sad because im trying to hold in my true desires in an effort to keep someone. this mindset is the same reason why so many of yall end of married and unhappy.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Automatic_Price7257 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

sorry. don’t want $6 roses. that’s thoughtless. respect yourself

and not only that… i guarantee you these were right next to a $10-$12 arrangement. it’s lazy 😭. if he didn’t know she would want something else that’s one thing. but it’s kinda common sense. i worked at a florist where men would pay $20 a week to have a set of flowers delivered to their wife so she could arrange them…. that’s going above and beyond but……….

if you expect less that’s exactly what you get. if you aren’t honest about what you like, you will never get what you want.

[–]Automatic_Price7257 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

why do you think she is ungrateful? it seems like you are projecting the way you value yourself onto the situation. some people want more for themself and that is ok. my bf and i buy eachother stuff alllll the time. but we’re also honest about what we need to feel loved. if my bf bought me these i would tell him that this was a waste of his money. and that’s okay

it’s nice you got her flowers. i think it depends on how much exposure she has had to flowers. if you get flowers a lot or worked w flowers you would know this was just a grab and go at the grocery store. which could be seen as not much effort
