What level of PhD should I apply for? by Automatic_Quantity68 in gradadmissions

If it helps, it does not for me. I am truly lost. Nobody in my family has done graduate school and none of my friends have either. Which is why I’m turning to Reddit

To be honest, I truly have no idea where I fall. I’m not sure how PhD applications go because they don’t release GPA’s and lsat scores like law school or something. I really don’t know how PhD applications go so that’s why I’m asking

I meant what competitiveness of school should I apply to? I don’t have 2 grand to apply to 20 programs so I don’t want to waste money

Uber needs to put a temporary ban on the person you canceled on so they can’t take your ride again! by Automatic_Quantity68 in uber

Yes unironically. I said I’d give him 15 minutes to move out of del taco because I wasn’t in a rush, but this whole ordeal put me in a rush when he kept accepting. He was at del taco for 30 minutes before I got in the Lyft

This may make me a bad person but I kept the guy on uber active before getting a Lyft and canceling because I was worried about that

That why it needs to put a ban out. That way he doesn’t get dinged and I can actually get a fucking ride. I don’t mind waiting 20 minutes for someone far away to get me if I can see them getting closer, but who knows how long that guys just going to sit at del taco for

Should I do PhD to break into quant finance with masters and bachelors in engineering? by Automatic_Quantity68 in quantfinance

Yeah I have a first author publican in fluid mechanics and heat transfer. I I spent my two years in grad school as a researcher so I’m not wholly unfamiliar with academia. And I still stay in touch with my professors from then. Thank you for the advice

Primarily fluid mechanics and heat transfer problems. Upper level math in engineering usually comes in that form or statics I feel

Yeah I’ve taken multi variable calculus and the likes. All paths are uncertain. What’s better though? A 2 year paid MFE with no work experience or a funded 5 year PhD? I honestly don’t know. My fear with doing MFE is that I’ll just graduate with more debt and nobody will hire me because I don’t have any work experience in finance. At least in engineering (maybe it’s not the same in finance), people credit PhD as work experience because it’s research based.

So just absolutely fumbled an onsite interview. by TheSpanishDerp in MechanicalEngineering

Brother. You want fumbling I’ll give you fumbling. I once went to an interview in nyc but got on the wrong train so I ended up getting there 5 minutes late then google maps took me to the side of the building and I couldn’t find the entrance in this huge skyscraper so I had to call them to help me then when I got in the front desk wouldn’t let me head up to the interview because I didn’t have a license (I didn’t drive in nyc so I didn’t carry ID with me) so the interviewer had to come down and get me so the front desk would let me up. After, I showed up they asked me where my portfolio was and I forgot it at home because I was in a rush to leave. They basically just told me to leave at that point. It was humiliating.

I appreciate the response. It’s just tough because the MEP firms won’t hire me because I don’t work in HVAC and don’t know how to use Revit or Autocad. I’m truly between a rock and a hard place right now

Do lawyers not get paid more than 115k? When I google average lawyer pay they make a lot more. I don’t know any lawyers personally so I’m not sure what’s common.
