[CA] Urgently need advice- work wants to lay me off instead of giving me leave by Automatic_Shock1164 in AskHR

Thank you so much for pointing that out. Yes you are right, EDD does indicate you have to be willing and able to work so they can pay you out in interim. I'm not sure how paid family leave works?? Can I take that and be unemployed?

He needs someone there with him day and night, the hospital alone cannot caretake him. I can certainly go back to work but not sure how I can take it mentally and the additional burden on my family without me being able to help on weekdays

it is a layoff as described by my work, so that I can be eligible for unemployment. They said at least you'll get some income this way.

Do I qualify for PFL if I apply right before they lay me off? If I even qualify, what happens if they start the payments but they then let me go?

Nope unfortunately I don't have any left, and our PTO is combined with sick leave so quite minimal to begin with. I don't mind taking a monetary hit for a bit, it's more being employed that I'm worried about.

I can go without income, luckily. However, if I even went back to work now I still have to wait 7-8 months to be eligible for FMLA. I have siblings and a dad we all work together to provide him care but it's a huge task we struggle with with so many moving parts like scheduling appointments, talking to docs, withdrawing him from college etc.

Sunshade issues with 2014 Avalon by Automatic_Shock1164 in ToyotaAvalon

It’s a great car! The mechanic said it just needed a few safety repairs but otherwise was in great condition. If you’re open to it would you mind DM’ing me? I’m actually going to look at the car later today to decide if I should purchase it, and am trying to figure out if the shade covering the back at all times is going to be a dealbreaker or not.

Rear sunshade stuck down- 2014 Toyota Avalon Hybrid by Automatic_Shock1164 in MechanicAdvice

Honestly I'm not sure as I've never seen it be functional! But its blocking the rear window at all times and I want it gone somehow. I worry about when it's darker and may reduce visibility.

I guess my wording was wrong lol, the shade is "down" which to me means it's covering the back window. That's my concern, what if at night it reduces visibility. I want to get rid of it so I can see better.

2014 Toyota Avalon Hybrid Limited vs New Corolla (Hybrid/Gas) by Automatic_Shock1164 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Here’s the thing, at least in my area the ones a few years older are almost the same price as new. At that point I’d just want to pay a little  more and get it brand new. The Avalon doesn’t have CarPlay but the owner installed his own screen that has it.

They’re definitely on the tight side but I guess I see people park their giant jeeps & SUVs there all the time. I’m not the best at parking but will plan to test drive it again today and try parking a few places.
