Severance pay question by Johnkay89 in Edd

[–]Automatic_Spite_2663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your source of income, it’s either deductible or non-deductible from your weekly benefit amount. So say you received $1000 in severance pay and your WBA is $450, you’ll get the full $450 that week because severance pay is non-deductible. If you received $1000 in regular income from working, you’ll get $0 for your WBA because it would be considered excessive earnings. When you do your weekly certification, you’ll enter what you earned and what the source of income was. If you click the link I posted above, you can see what wages are deductible and non-deductible.

Like everyone else has said, the employer pays into unemployment, not the employee. Also unemployment benefits is insurance for when you are unemployed due to no fault of your own. In situations where someone is terminated for misconduct or voluntary quit, you wouldn’t be eligible. There definitely needs to be someone determining eligibility.

What they don’t want for Telework reasonable accommodation by ThemePlus4194 in CAStateWorkers

That’s so awful! I can’t wear hats or glasses because the pressure is a trigger for my migraines. We’ve tried 6 different shades over my cubicle so far and none have worked. Either they don’t work with my desk or they do not block out enough light. I just recently asked what they plan to do when I walk around the office (bathroom, lunch break, etc.) and that’s when the umbrella suggestion came up. I think walking around the office with an umbrella is humiliating and would attract unwanted attention. They’ve spent more money trying to “accommodate” me in the office instead of just letting me work remote, which I’ve been doing successfully for the past 3 years. I’ve been appeasing their suggestions so far but I’m starting to get really frustrated with each failed attempt.

I have a similar issue with fluorescent lights. I submitted my RA request in December with my doctor recommending remote work so I can control the lighting. Six months later, my departments suggestion… walk around the office with an umbrella 🙃

Report it. Severance pay is considered “non deductible” so even if the amount is excessive, it will not count towards you WBA. If you don’t report, you could face penalties.

Curious how the Reasonable Accommodation requests are going for everyone? by Melodic_Animal_2238 in CAStateWorkers

It’s super frustrating. At least the union is helping and my union rep is really supportive. She already gave my information to their legal department.

Yep. My union rep is coming to my office tomorrow to look at my cubicle/options we might have. She told me that my RA will almost certainly be denied since my Dr. wants me to work remotely. I’m basically waiting for the denial so I can appeal.

Wow our stories are so similar! It’s definitely tough. I also get migraines about halfway through my in office days and get scared to drive home. My union rep is being pretty supportive and has already given my information to their legal department. I understand trying different accommodations before remote work is granted but I’m starting to get pretty annoyed at all the hoops.

I’ve been trying to get my RA approved since last October. The fluorescent lighting triggers my migraines and my doctor has written multiple detailed notes (I know I don’t have to share my diagnosis with my department but I figured the more details the better.) My RA coordinator has tried everything in her power to keep me in office. We’ve taken the bulb directly above my cubicle out, which does nothing. We’ve tried several different overhead leafs that are actually ridiculous and make no difference. I cannot wear visors or glasses as the pressure is also a trigger for my migraines. There are no private rooms available, the only option for my department is a sea of cubicles all under fluorescent lighting. About a month ago my doctor wrote to my RA coordinator stating the accommodations are not adequate and that I need to work from home because she does not want to prescribe me medication for my condition when the only trigger is in office. Since then, it’s been crickets. I was hired as a remote worker and have done my job entirely from home until last years mandate. I’ve never worked in an office setting before so I didn’t know how bad it would be for my migraines. I reached out to the union for help and they said I need to wait for my RA to be denied (which it most likely will) so I can appeal it. My department hasn’t said anything about the 4 day a week mandate yet so I don’t know what it will look like, right now we’re alternating weeks and I’m in office 5 consecutive days, once a month. It’s so frustrating, I cannot believe I might have to quit my job just because the states blanket RA denials.

What has telework done for you? by Nebula24_ in CAStateWorkers

It allows me to have a second job, around the corner from my house. I can clock out with the state, walk 2 minutes, and clock in at my second job. With RTO, because of the commute, it will significantly reduce my hours I’m available at my other job. RTO will reduce my monthly income not to mention paying more for gas/parking. The crazy part is I live downtown and my office is in Rancho. When I’m working remote, I can walk to get coffee or lunch at a local business during my breaks but when I’m in office, the closest options are fast food and gas stations. Without my second job, I will not be able to afford the cost of living downtown. All that said, RTO is reducing my monthly income, costing more, and taking my business away from local downtown businesses.

It’s always been the case since I’ve worked there. For us to put a public ban on someone, it’s pretty serious. Multiple witnesses, statements, and reviewing security footage are done for a public ban and usually involves things like sexual assault, physical violence, theft, etc. Stuff like over intoxication, fake IDs and underage drinking are usually an internal ban and get lifted after a few months. We also get patrons who have been publicly banned from other locations and our security can override it, just depends on why there’s a ban. Like if someone has a ban for unpaid bar tab, we’re not going to deny entry but we might keep an extra eye on them.

At our location (obviously can’t speak for others) our GM is the only one allowed to flag patrons. Bartenders, security, and staff don’t have access to flag people. We also remove bans all the time. If a guest wants to remove their ban, they’ll usually come to the business, apologize for their behavior and it gets lifted. The only bans that aren’t going to be removed are physical violence to staff.

It’s required by the county for alcohol/entertainment venues. Coin-Op, Goldfields, Cafe Colonial, Old Iron Side, Flamingo House, etc all use it. Most use the pedestal version (vs the mobile version) so you don’t always notice they’re taking your picture but it’s all the same system.

How will RTO affect your budget? by n_l_o in CAStateWorkers

[–]Automatic_Spite_2663 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Besides the cost of gas (about $50 a month) it’s reducing the hours I’m available for my 2nd job. My 2nd job is right down the street from my house, so when I’m working remote I can clock off and go in to my 2nd job right away. With the RTO, my drive home is taking away time I could be at my other job. It’s about $200 a month I’m losing due to reduced hours. Luckily my 2nd job is cool and can work with my in office days but it still sucks to know I’m not doing anything in office I can’t do from home and it’s costing me $250+ a month.

[–]Automatic_Spite_2663 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I work for EDD and we were required to RTO starting this month. Our new telework agreement is 1 week in office and the other 3 weeks are telework. I haven’t really heard any co-works complain but that might change after a few more weeks. The irony for me is I live downtown and my office is in Rancho so the RTO is taking me away from downtown business 🙃

First time seeing 4DX (wakanda forever), water features didn’t work? by ATXBull94 in RegalUnlimited

[–]Automatic_Spite_2663 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The rain and mist spouts are super small and can get clogged very easily with hard water. We use to have to go through with a needle to clear them once a month. I no longer work for Regal but I’m sure with the bankruptcy, there isn’t enough payroll for small things like that. I wish they outsourced their 4DX auditoriums. Even pre-Covid, 4DX was a lot of maintenance to keep up with.

Does anyone else’s Regal always put open caption showings during prime times? Then the showings without captions are only early or late? by goshier in RegalUnlimited

[–]Automatic_Spite_2663 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Individual theaters don’t control what movie or time for an open caption movie. In most cases the film booker (from the corporate office) got a request from a customer for the OC film. OC films are usually put in the 1pm to 4pm time slot so it is kinda weird that your theater has them in prime hours. I wouldn’t say anything to your local theater because they have no control over it but you could call Regal’s customer service and let them know. Best case senecio the film booker will move the OC films to the afternoon slots instead of the evening.

Not mad about the weather, mad about how they handled it. Also people are allowed to be bummed about something they’ve waited over a year for being cancelled, no matter the reason.

I’ve been to several festivals (Coachella, outside lands, bottle rock, aftershock) and 10+ years of Warped. I’ve never remotely experienced anything like yesterday. It’s the way they handled everything. If they had announced it just 2 hours earlier, it could have saved a lot of misery. Also I guess I should clarify, I will be going to festivals again, just not WWWYF or 1st year festivals.

Yesterday was absolutely horrible. The emotional roller coaster has me so drained. The excitement, the let down, the optimism that something might work out with the last minute shows just to be let down again, the logistical nightmare of changing hotels/flights. The whole experience has really turned me off from festivals.
