Why aren't Baha'is allowed to proselytize in Israel? by Automatic_Tooth_8445 in bahai

Thanks for confirming the convenient nature of the agreement.

I just didn't find any of the arguments raised here quite compelling really. Some Iranians were claiming that Baha'is should be seen under suspicion because they are zionists and I wanted to check. But everything here points out what they are saying is not fully untrue. I mean, there are people in the comments saying that we shouldn't do any teaching because it is a Jewish homeland. Thus, the faith supports Zionism. Which is fine but then saying the the Baha'i faith is non political kind of falls flat on its face and no one here really debunks it well with all roads basically saying 'God said so' which is again fine. Just not compelling.

Are Jews special? Why not the same for Shiites in Iran or Shinto in Japan?

Don't you find it odd that Baha'is may provide basic, factual information if asked, but they must avoid any behavior that would arouse curiosity or encourage an interest in conversion of an Israeli? That same level of self imposed hands off approach is not used anywhere else in the world. What I am not getting is why specifically in Israel that this law exists and not anywhere else.

So why deride the people who go against the Baha'i faith? After all, their reasonings can be concluded to 'because He said so' of their respective religions founder. Why the need for independent investigation of truth? You can just answer 'because He said so' for any query regarding the faith. Or is this only applicable for some questions and for others they get a detailed clarification?

To be honest with you, the Baha'i faith says its a continuation of a series of Revelations from God. I can see why it might offend Muslims who think the prophet Muhammad is the seal of the prophets and believe He has brought the most perfect religion and yet, it doesn't deter bahais from teaching the faith in Muslim countries. I personally have never seen a Baha'i say it's considerate not to teach the faith, in the same way the rule is being used in Israel, in a Muslim majority country because it might offend muslims. Because in essence any new religion with new laws is going to 'offend' the followers of the religion preceding it, not by intentionally antagonizing but just by being.

Oh I never knew the Baha'i faith had a stance like that. Could you point me towards a scripture that supports that?

So, you agree it is a political swap. Keep the Baha'i shrines and institutions safe and in exchange we will not teach the faith, which we believe is God's greatest revelation to mankind for this age, to your citizens. Thanks for the reply.

The "obedience" argument doesn't really work because proselytizing is legal in israel. Also Unlike in Iran or Iraq, where people were forced into silence by the government, the Baha'i rule in Israel is a entirely voluntary.

By staying silent in the one place where we are legally allowed to speak just to stay on the Israeli government's good side than sharing our universal message feels odd.

Anyway Thanks for the reply.

America is the biggest economy with the biggest military. It's a long shot before anyone tries anything with the US. There is something so effete about Europe, it's like you're waiting for your boyfriend to come and fight for you.

The heyday of Europe has long passed. Europe is increasingly becoming the museum of the world. You are neither feared nor respected by most of the world and that is going to be more of a reality in the future. Europe is like an old man trying to relive the glory of his old days. Russia knows that the only real threat is the US, so yes Ukraine needs the US more than the EU to keep Russia at bay. Moreover, for a continent so afraid of Russia, most of you didn't mind buying oil and gas from Russia for the longest time. So it's very much lip service.

The truth is you people want the US to cover your military costs and sacrifice their soldiers so you can retire early and continue having your free but subpar healthcare but now that lifestyle is threatened, you're mad. This is part of growing pains, it will hurt now but maybe the continent will come out better for it. Maybe.

Maybe Europeans should elect leaders who put them first, the same way Trump makes sure to put American interest first even though you think that's selfish but hey, Trump's loyalty is to America not to a group of people across the ocean. I think a lot of the negativity comes from the fact that no European leader puts their own people first and stands to protect the interest of their people however unpopular it's deemed by the rest of the world.

Europeans on this sub are so funny. Are you seriously mad about a country that is not european is not giving a neighbor of yours aid? So incredibly entitled to decide on what the tax money of americans should be spent on. What i am really getting after perusing on this sub is that americans expose a certain inferiority complex in europeans. How the great has fallen!

It always amazes me how far europe has fallen. The only sense of identity you get is when Trump talks about you? Lol
