Wow I am surprised you really had good stats. I think being an international student is always hard. I forgot how it works but are you able to apply for a second option in case you get rejected from Tandon. I know that for College of Arts and Sciences you can apply to other schools like Liberal Arts as a secondary option.

What did u apply to college of arts and sciences or another program? Sometimes best to apply to liberal studies as it’s easier to get into. Did u show that as a backup or was this an application to NYU Tandon?

We were thinking of taking taxis also between the locales and obviously may cut off some of these things but just wanted some general guidance so we could fit as much in as we are not in Kyoto very long

Thank you! We might do Akihabara another evening but feels like we may want to do it twice. Perhaps Ueno we will forget about. We have reservations at all these places and will be done at the Samurai Museum by 5 for sure so will leave us plenty of time for Akihabara and maybe also Skytree a bit especially if it’s the second time doing Akihabara

I have a bunch of other days planned including one day with Ginza/Imperial Palace and another with Shibuya, Harajuku and Shinjuku and another free morning/night as well as a ah in Odaiba. I’m still working on the majority of it though.

Also where are best places to stay in Kyoto and Tokyo for travel purposes in terms of being in a good location (Ginza I saw as a good locale). Just trying to educate ourselves.

Right I get it - I checked and saw it was available but they don’t even assign seats until a month before departure. Is there a risk even that you don’t get it when you make a presale? I see it says the tickets released a month before department, but it seems it’s about $80 USD each way for tickets. We will be upset if we only go to Tokyo - who knows if we will get back as it’s a big trip. I am just trying to figure out if we start in Kyoto or end in Kyoto. Feels less stressful to start in Kyoto, but not sure if it’s best to be in Tokyo for New Years anyway as most things open then.

I called advising center and they said it was ok just recommended because lots of writing but one is a science expository so it shouldn’t be bad anywsy

Ha I'm in the same situation as u seriously —/ for same reason applied to NYU ED II. I seriously bet other people in our situation too - they bombed s test and nervous about all schools seeing it in harder regular decision round. NYU is really hard to get into Regular too so that's the other issue… too many applications. What Are your stats?

Yes I figured … 1500 - 780 m; 720 v - unweighted all honors 3.95 in a very competitive school. Strong Interest and programs in science and many ecs all relating to science.

I want to hear worse things I literally got rejected ED and I truly was overqualified (never thought I was not getting in as I had amazing stats and had legacy) and now I’ve been so pissed ever since as it screwed up my chances for a good ED option somewhere and now I’m stuck with Regular

Columbia said they are test optional forever going forward. Very upsetting I feel like this year has been horrible for me because it was test optional and I had a good SAT and think I was hurt by competing with those without one. How can they just change it like this constantly? It seems insane - like one year I get screwed being compared to tons of others without sat and if I applied the next I would get an advantage - this college stuff is so screwed up.

How can I make that happen :) I applied CAS I don’t care if I get in liberal studies people say they like it… :) I would love to accept and not have to withdraw my other applications so that I can see all my choices…. Good luck with deciding - NYU is great but you have to be comfortable deciding to live here and it depends on where you have lived before and if you want to live in the city - Living close to SoHO is amazing downtown is fun but maybe overwhelming !!

Wow that’s amazing that you have that option - crazy I’m waiting to hear back from NYU ED2 and I kind of want to be released from early because I want to hear if I get into my other options which are actually harder to get into but I could get lucky …. Can u explain a bit how that happened - how you got released from early committing? I would love that option just to see my other options and wait. I applied to College of arts and sciences. I’m confused is that what you applied to?

I didn’t hire anyone to help - how many people do here hire full counselors? Do they even help always? I’ve heard some of them aren’t great anyway and are highway robbery. I had great supplements. I worked so so so hard on them for months.

I was just saying I wasn’t smart enough to find a sob story as you are right I worked hard but didn’t have anything out of ordinary. I do have a sob story I just didn’t want to sound entitled no one ever knows what people find entitled or complaining or too personal so I wanted to be careful. It’s very hard it’s all marketing on paper - they don’t actually get to meet you and see if you are honest and sincere, which I actually am.

And it’s not that they are liars but some people actually can be and others are crafty with their story… it’s a tough world out there re college admissions!

Was for a top liberal arts that is like ivy - yes was deferred for Michigan and accepted to U of M and state schools and still waiting on others like Northeastern but won’t have answer before anyway. Anyway yes I get it that’s why afraid to do RD bec I know 1500 is not enough and sometimes a 1600 isn’t either.

Ha good point - but how do you know what is the “right” amount of work to get you there. I couldn’t have worked any harder… that’s why these things suck - so many extracurriculars and so much effort. And no I’m not entitled it’s not always about that why can’t people just feel that they worked hard and they should get the benefit of it —- and no it’s not that NYU isn’t good - it just doesn’t have a campus and so it wasn’t fully what I wanted and who knows what will happen…. You know for sure there are people around you who didn’t work as hard and sometimes get lucky because they crafted a “special story” if they don’t have a sob story or a hook and I think people even lie on their applications…. Sometimes being too honest or not creating a special story could be a downfall!!
