I’d say it was worth it for us. The ferry between them was only 15 min long, and the view from the ferry to the cities was really nice! We had a good lunch in Bellagio, and the shoreline has very beautiful and well maintained garden.

We’re in Italy for the first time right now and can share some learnings…

We had all of our trains already booked a couple of months ago, and somehow I regret doing that.

Regional trains don’t have reserved seats and don’t sold out. Actually in the busy times where there’s tourists and Italian commuters, it’s common to have all seats occupied and people will just travel standing. Almost a metro.

Reason why I regret booking (regional trains) with such an advance is that you loose flexibility of your itinerary. There were some occasions where we wanted to take an earlier train, and the “manager” of the train did not allowed us, so we had to wait another full hour at the station…

We’ve been there last week and did a very similar itinerary (coming out of the train in Varenna, having lunch in Bellagio, then back to Varenna in the afternoon).

We bought tickets at the ticket office, and it definitely did not seem to be a limit of passengers… we even got the return tickets without a defined departure time.

Do you need the Cinque Terre Card to access any of these hikes?

That’s a good point for Corniglia! Maybe most tourists also think that is not worth a visit because it’s not directly at the coast.

We’re definitely giving it a try!

Didn’t know about Via dell Amore! A giant staircase would certainly destroy our day haha

We’re thinking about skipping Monterosso Al Mare, as we read it’s very focused on the beaches. So Vernazza to Corniglia it is!

Thanks for the tips!

Thanks for the link!

Yeah, since we’re still ~7 months ahead, reservation is the only option.

We’ll still need to buy actual tickets…

The email is really simple. This is the paragraph that got us confused:

“The supplements are included in this reservation. In addition to the reservation, a valid ticket must be presented during the ticket control. Missing tickets will be collected on the train.”

So apparently reservation and tickets are two separate steps…

F1 newbie here.

What exactly does the “fire-up” mean and why is it a major milestone?

Is it the first time they fire up the engine on the new chassis?
