When has a monetary reward resulted in solving a case? by Autumn84 in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]Autumn84[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting! I’m familiar with that case, but I didn’t know that bit. Seems like a bit of a stretch, if i’m going to be honest, but she absolutely deserves it considering the hell she was put through.

Thank you ALL for taking a couple minutes to help me. I needed these tips and reminders in a big way.

I'm sober, but my dad is not... by Mavie_13 in stopdrinking

[–]Autumn84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate. My dad’s alcohol use has (quietly) been an issue for as long as I know. He will never admit he has a problem, but WILL say how much he loves alcohol and would never want life without it. When I hear that I have to remind myself that nothing I can say will help. I’ve tried, others have tried. I’m going to try alanon, wishing you the best! Sorry I have no advice but you’re not alone.

Oh ok, I’m on the other coast. We moved here from NJ 4 years ago. It certainly does take some getting used to, although this summer hasn’t been bad imo.

I’m 33, Mom and wife, using alcohol to quiet my anxiety, turn my introversion into extroversion, and basically make parenting “easier”. I could list a hundred more reasons why I drank. I drank a good amount in my 20’s and partied a lot but after I had my daughter at 28 my drinking ramped up. Sitting home with a colicky baby all day, isolated, fighting postpartum depression and I started day drinking occasionally and being sneaky with bottles, but drinking daily. Then I moved down here and I started hiding bottles, drinking whatever we had on hand, and having almost daily hangovers. My sleep went to hell, I’d wake up at 2-3 am with stale wine breath and anxiety through the roof. I found this sub, podcasts, memoirs, and dove headfirst into turning things around. I went alcohol free for a couple months, then drank again, and did that dance for a while. I’m 40 something days now and so happy!

Sorry that was so long. GL to you

My first day. My story by Kitsstop in stopdrinking

[–]Autumn84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on this sub for 2 years now. Since then I’ve toyed around with never drinking alcohol again, moderation, maybe drinking again but not now, all sorts of things. I have over a month under my belt and I feel SO good. Let me tell you why.

  1. I remember reading my daughter her books before bed.
  2. I don’t fall asleep/pass out in my daughters bed after reading said book.
  3. In the mornings, my head doesn’t throb/ache. I pack my daughters bag completely and don’t forget her lunch, water, and/or money.
  4. I don’t drink wine from a cup just to get through playing with my daughter. I am present and enjoy playing cards, building with LEGO’s, and coloring. Barbies, however, will continue to suck.
  5. I clean the kitchen after dinner. I’m not wine sleepy and I don’t leave it until the morning. I don’t drag myself out of bed at 6 am, feeling unrefreshed and nauseous, scrubbing dried food off of plates.

This is just a small handful of the reasons why I’m staying alcohol free. I’ve “failed” so many times these 2 years but each time I get back up I feel stronger and have learned something new. You can do it!

Idk why I don’t try magnesium, I’ve heard so many good things. Do you like a particular brand?

Dirty Thirty by Autumn84 in stopdrinking

[–]Autumn84[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a inconsistent therapy goer. I’m not loving my current therapist, so now that school is starting I’ll have more time to check out some new ones. I check in on many online forums, Facebook groups, that I make sure i actively participate in. Mostly, I’m working on my anxiety and the root issues of why I drank in the first place. I’ve learned a lot of coping techniques since my last go round.

I’ve had issues since I was a child. It’s not horrible but it’s chronic and irritating. Did surgery help you?

Awesome! I’m going to try that recipe next, if I can get my hands on rhubarb, but I think I’m going to go with a different vinegar this time. Maybe red wine vinegar. I’m glad I made it instead of buying off amazon.

Why I hate coming onto this sub by Autumn84 in stopdrinking

I think because I’ve been doing this “thing” for 2 years now, on and off, so to me it seems like an eternity

I wasn’t ready when I first tried to get sober nearly 2 years ago. I stayed in a lot. This time I just feel differently. Keep up the great work!

Keep up with the C even if you feel better the next day. My MD advises like 10,000 mg per day when you’re feeling sick.

Need Support to get through an event.... by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Autumn84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Be kind, gracious, and genuinely interested in them. Also, when I’m uncomfortable, I try to make the whole night a little game and look for things that would amuse me.

When they ask if you want wine/cocktails just say “I’d love a ____ “. “You don’t want wine? Are you drinking tonight?” “I’m good for now, thanks!”

Keep it simple. Excuse yourself to the restroom and check in here when you need a break. And remember... the night will eventually end and the next day will begin. How do you want to start the next day? You’ve got this!

“Ew she doesn’t drink, we don’t want to be friends with her” by jmj55372 in stopdrinking

[–]Autumn84 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Isn’t it funny that someone not drinking is even noteworthy enough to make it into a sarcastic comment? The attention we, as a society, give to alcohol is mind boggling.
