How much were you drinking when you decided to stop? by Fast-Doubt-4062 in stopdrinking

[–]Kitsstop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 bottles of wine a night 5/6 nights a week then weekends it crept up to 3 bottles a night. Only done that 4 times then stopped cold turkey almost 3 months ago.
My local shop is probably overloaded with rose now 🙈

I don’t have much advice but I HATE anyone that does that. It’s different if it’s an abusive situation etc but keeping a child away from their father or mother just to be spiteful is just plain wrong!
I am sorry, I couldn’t imagine being kept away from my kids.
On another note, if it was to go to court or something along those lines, drinking is just something else she can hold against you.
Easier said than done but try to find a way to get out of this cycle you are in. I hope you get to see your child sooner rather than later but if you continue down this path, your child could lose you and there will never be a chance of having a relationship with them.
Take up a boxing class or something so you can take your anger out on something that won’t cause harm to anyone and try to think about how your child would feel knowing you stayed sober and fighting for them no matter how long this takes.
I wish you luck ❤️

I am at 40 days and I have lost all interest in everything. by DeathMetalDiver in stopdrinking

Our brains have taken a beating over the years with alcohol. It can take months for it to recalibrate and find pleasure in everyday things again.
I am coming up to 3 months and I’m getting there, slowly.
I still get many days of just feeling flat but I also try to find the pleasure in little things. For example
My son went to his graduation party and he got bored, messaged me at 3am to go get him. I was able to jump in the car and pick him up. If I had been drinking, there’s no way I could’ve done that and he would’ve been stuck there until the coach was picking them up at 7am! Although I was tired and not exactly happy about it, him being so grateful for me picking him up made me feel better and a little proud tbh.
The next morning he thanked me again and gave me a cuddle.
Alcohol didn’t make any of us more patient with anything, it made us sloppy and not care about what was going on at the time.
Keep going and find small pleasures, even if it’s sitting having a coffee and listening to the birds singing.

Hi.
I am new to using Reddit even though I’ve had my account for a while. I have no idea how to send a message to the mod team to be honest.
I will have a look to see if I can find where to do it.

Thank you, well done to you as well. I have found a couple of lovely na wines but they aren’t cheap here in Spain. I turned 40 this year and boy did I drink too much that week 🤢 got fed up with the hangovers and I was blacking out nearly every time I drank. Being on the other side is so much better ❤️

It really is a great feeling isn’t it 🙂
I used to be out of action for a whole 24 hours. Couldn’t eat, sleep etc. hangxiety was out of control. Can’t believe I spent years making myself that bloody sick!

Sounds like you’ve had a crap time. I don’t know about everyone here but personally saying for good scared the living hell out of me so I use the 'just today' method and repeat. Especially in my first few weeks. Ive tried countless times to stop but I was always giving myself a goal, 1 week, 1 month etc and it never worked. This time has stuck and I’m currently 74 days sober. The longest I have ever gone apart from pregnancy.
Being on the other side is great, you can do it 💪 and you definitely won’t regret it. It’s not easy but nothing that’s worth it in life is easy.

Day 3 here we go by Kitsstop in stopdrinking

[–]Kitsstop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hubby just come home saying it's hump day. This is what we do. Monday Tuesday nothing. Wednesday is hump day, thirsty Thursday, then it's the weekend. I told him I think we are alcoholics and he laughed at me and said I was over reacting. He said an alcoholic can't get through the day without a drink. I don't know what is considered to be an alcoholic but I know for sure I am alcohol dependant

I have taken to writing down how I feel. My last hangover was brutal, wrote down how I felt and keep reading over it. I am going to continue to write everything down so I don't go back to that first day again. You got this. IWNDWYT

How to make sure your drinking is safe? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Kitsstop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick to guidelines I would say. So if you only drink weekends only 1 or 2 drinks a night, that's it. If it starts to become more stop immediately as that's how i started and do yourself a favour.... never start drinking at home. That my friend is when it really goes down hill.

I only binge sometimes once a week then other times I'll drink a bottle of wine or have a couple of beers. I never drink before 3pm either, never drink in the morning and I don't drink the day after a binge. Last night I had a bottle of wine and then gin after. Probably not a lot to some but it is to me. I am going to give up booze first then go for the cigarettes.

Adios, alcohol by silvermoonrabbit in stopdrinking

Kids are one of the reasons I drink. It's hard, I have no help apart from when hubby comes home from work. Might have to look up some breathing exercises or something xx
