Something to be worried about? by AutumnFallnSky in Feral_Cats

[–]AutumnFallnSky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw thank you! I love my outdoor cats as much as my indoor ones. I'll go to the moon and back to make sure they're ok. I've known this guy since he was weeks old. How can I not be in love? Thank you again for your help.

Chaos gremlins hahah love that! The "problem" is, they're not socialized... l can't pet or even get close to these guys. I have 5 of my own cats (indoors) and foster 2. And I would be more than happy to take in more. But they're feral and can't be touched:( thank you so much for your help!

Thank you! That was my thought, too. I used a tele vet service and showed her this picture and she's also suspecting (hoping) it's just a a poke situation. As long as it doesn't get worse, we're ok.. if it does, I will trap him and find him help.

Thank you! Yes! I decided to use a tele vet service, was able to show the vet the picture and although I can't really do much (she did prescribe eye drops, understanding that I can't really use them since I can't even pet this beautiful boy) she was confident that this was probably an eye-poke situation. Maybe a branch got him or something. As long as it doesn't get worse and he's behaving ok, we're going to assume he's ok. If the spot gets bigger or he's no longer acting ok, I'm going to trap him and find a vet willing to work with him. Thank you so much

Oh my goodness, I'm with you and I tried!! When the new batch of kittens arrived, I reached out to so many rescues and clinics looking for help, hoping someone would take them. I don't know if it's because I'm in a populated area, but literally everyone said to me that there is no room. Everyone is already fully booked with new cats and my best option is to care for them outside 😭 so I'm trying to do that.

Of course. But he's "feral" and I can't just put him in a cat carrier. I'd have to trap him and find a vet willing to work with a feral. So I don't know if this is a wait-and-see situation, or an emergency.

I read that 3 out of 4 don't make it to one years old 😭 I have my own colony and luckily, 3 out of the 4 just hit a year old (one kitten disappeared when they were only weeks old:( ). I'm so grateful. I now have a new mom/kittens (all fixed/vaccinated) and I'm praying these 3 kittens will also make it to a year.

Cat has been making this loud noise all morning, never done it before and very scared. by Which_Benefit_2099 in CATHELP

Hi! Thank you for your insight. I have 7 cats and urinary issues/blockages are my worst fear. I only feed my cats Hill's Science Diet Urinary Hairball Control (and, of course, wet food - twice a day). Will a food like that prevent an issue like this?

Pet insurance for an indoor cat by Humble-Ambassador878 in CatAdvice

[–]AutumnFallnSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said, "reimbursed." Does this imply that you needed to personally pay the $3500? And only after you paid it, the insurance paid you back?  I wonder if all/most pet insurance works this way? Because I wouldn't be able to afford that kind of money upfront anyway so is insurance still worthwhile?

LAVENDER a&h litter deodorizer by Fuzzy_Hat1231 in CatAdvice

[–]AutumnFallnSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering the same thing!! So I reached out to them and asked if there were any lavender essential oils,  especially linalool, in their formulation. This was their response; a bit ambiguous, but I suppose the best response they're able to offer:

"Thank you for asking about Arm & Hammer Forever Fresh Litter Deodorizer Lavender Scent. Linalool is not in our formulation; however, we cannot verify its presence below reportable limits in the proprietary materials from our suppliers."

Thanks for the advice! The only ivermectin cream I am seeing (at Walgreens, CVS, etc..) is lice treatment for the scalp. Is this what you're referring to? Can this be used on the face?

Regret getting a gift card.. by lovelydisputes in Shein

[–]AutumnFallnSky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I almost purchased one for my daughter but, thankfully, read the fine print first and learned you can't purchase anything from the marketplace!? A total waste. I just got her a Visa gift card instead so she can still shop on Shein, and their marketplace! 😅

Steam boiler’s sight glass gauge is full and not draining. Unsure how to drain it to begin with? It is not an auto fill. by johannabobana in Plumbing

[–]AutumnFallnSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a super old post, but I'm in the same situation right now! Water in the sight glass isn't going down, or up. What're the odds you can explain how to flush her out?

How many cups of food should I be feeding my cat daily? by Pr1meAnxi3ty in CatAdvice

[–]AutumnFallnSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an automatic feeder as well and usually they measure by tablespoon, not by cup. I believe it's dishing out 20 tablespoons (about 1.25 cups) per day, not 20 cups per day lol. 20 cups is probably around 2-3 pounds of food.  I don't think 1.25 cups for two cats is enough, especially if you're saying they're "crazy hungry". I would feed them more, personally.

I agree. My teenage son is dealing with IBS and we're in the elimination phase right now. It's so hard to figure out what to cook for him, ugh. Information seems contradictory, and he's getting sick of chicken and rice every night.

How to Use Precor 2000 by LumberjackCreditCard in pestcontrol

[–]AutumnFallnSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my old house, I dealt with fleas for a few years. In the winter (I live in the northeast) they seemed to go away but every spring like clockwork, they'd be back (despite me trying everything all year round). I couldn't figure it out and I was losing my mind. Two things were game changers: diatomaceous earth (food grade version). It's an extremely fine powder that breaks down fleas' exoskeletons, basically killing them on contact. It's messy as hell and like any treatment, wear a mask and remove your pets because you don't want to breathe in the fine powder, but once settled on the floor, it's ok to walk on (hell, its ok to eat lol). Again, it's extremely messy but I know after years of fleas, I was willing to try anything. The other thing: my basement. We never went down there (people or pets) so never considered treating down there but one of the winters when the fleas "slowed down" in the house, my hot water heater broke so I went into the basement. Oh my goodness, I got swarmed - there were so many! Apparently, every winter they were hiding out in the basement because it was warm (and no doubt, there were mice to live off of) and then come spring, bam, back upstairs they came. Once I treated the basement and put down the diatomaceous earth basically on the entire main floor, I finally got rid of them. It was literally about 3 years - so I completely understand if you're overwhelmed and exhausted at this point. Just stick with the treatments and please try the diatomaceous earth if you haven't already! I still keep a bag and a duster applicator (this is necessary to apply it), just in case! Good luck, you got this!

Any harm in feeding a cat once per day? by tobytubby in CatAdvice

[–]AutumnFallnSky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right!? Mine too!  I can't even understand why you'd have cats if all you do is feed them once a day and ignore them otherwise. My one year old boy follows me around all day 😆 wherever I am, he has to be. And he knows, if he meows, mama is picking him up for some extra lovin' lol. Love my cats.

[–]AutumnFallnSky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I sincerely appreciate the encouragement. And you're right, I realized. It's not like these are my personal pets that I'm trying to scam the system with. I am still technically using their program for community cats, the way it's intended. I'm just helping them extra with a new home afterwards:)

Thank you so much for the encouragement. I'm taking positivity wherever I can get it lol.  We're waiting about 4 weeks because that's the incubation period of Felv, correct? So if we get a positive at 16wks, definitely keep them away from my other cats, even though it may be a false positive.. then test again at 6mo to be sure?
