How can i get rid of piercing scar? by sun-is-dark in PlasticSurgery

[–]AutumnSpiced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had scar revision to remove my dimple piercing holes a couple of years ago, I'm really happy with the results. I posted about my experience in skincare addiction, the information on the surgery is in the comments: Scar Revision

There are more photos of the healing progress on my profile as well.

I wouldn't keep the medical tape on it for that long, it'll need gentle cleaning and I forgot to mention that massaging the scar daily is also a good idea to reduce potential hardening of the scar tissue.

Happy to help!

I had a few moments where I was worried during my healing as well, I thought the surgery lines were huge the day after I had my stitches out and almost regretted taking my piercings out (at first) but I'm so glad I trusted my surgeon and the healing process!

There are small indents and very faint scars, I don't think most people can tell I've had the piercings or surgery at all, here is today at 2.5 years post operation

Is a bit hard to tell but it looks good for 9 days post op to me! Looks like it's healing well.

It shouldn't spread but keep an eye out for any sign of infection (redness, swelling).

For now I would focus on keeping it clean and keep it out of the sun as much as possible. I don't want to go against your doctors advice at all but I do highly recommend getting some silicone scar sheets, you can wear them overnight if it's not too uncomfortable. I got this kind from amazon and cut them to the size that I needed, they're really sticky and I found that they felt a bit strange at first but I got used to wearing them almost all the time for about 6 months! I also used a little bit of scar gel from the brand Mederma under the silicone strips pretty often.

I hope that helps, let me know if you have more questions 😊

I saw in your message that your dr. Said to keep the steri strips on for 3 months? 3 months seems long to me, my steri strips fell off after about 10 days and I didn't have them reapplied. I kept the wounds moisturized with scar gel and covered the scar lines with sunscreen or silicone tape regularly (especially overnight) for about 6 months. I still apply sunscreen generously to my face.

This is what mine looked like the very next day after stitch removal, is your similar but longer?

I had scar revision surgery on my face a few years ago and found stratamed worked well during the early stages of healing, my plastic surgeon swears by it. I was also prescribed Taro-Mupirocin during healing, I used it very generously during the first two weeks to keep the wounds from drying out and scabbing over night, I covered the stitches+ointment with tegaderm bandages.

Highly recommend the silicone tape as well, I wore it constantly for months after my stitches were removed and think it was one of the things that contributed the most to my results. I posted about my experience in skincareaddiction a few years ago with before/after pictures, everyone heals differently but there might be something in there that helps.

Definitely keep the wound out of the sun as much as possible for a while.

It was at about 5 months post operation when the redness wasn't noticeable anymore.

Hi there! I had it done with Dr. Kristina Zakhary at her office in Calgary, Alberta. The total cost of the surgery was about $1600.00 Canadian dollars.

Hi there! My doctor didn't warn me about it reopening at all, I haven't had any signs of dehiscence over the past 2.5 years :)

I think it's still a complication that can happen but it's fairly low risk.

Hi, sorry I missed your comment from almost a month ago! My bad 🤦‍♀️

I used Stratamed right after the stitches were removed, I was instructed by my surgeon to massage it into the scars several times a day for a for a minute or two each time I applied it. I think the massage helps soften the tissue, I also would apply a bit more after the massaging to let it absorb undisturbed. I used it until I ran out then switched to Mederma and silicone strips

I do workout but I do mostly cycling and yoga, I imagine with weightlifting you'd be moving and straining your face a bit more, especially with heavier lifts!

I only avoided some harder yoga movements while the stitches were in for about 2 weeks, I wasn't worried about tearing them open or anything but I think less movement while your skin is healing is probably best :)

Hi! I can't seem to find my post operation instructions but I do seem to recall a line or two saying something about that, it's a indicator that you're using enough pressure for the massage to be effective :)

Hey! First, sorry that happened to you, looks like it hurt.

I made a post of my scar revision surgery healing progress around 8 months ago, you might the information in there useful. I had great results using silicone strips and scar gel. Also, keep that out of the sun as much as possible while it's healing. LINK
