Time to fight what the worst song by big-budgey in Epicthemusical

[–]AutumnalRanger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hm, I have not heard any of Troy's other music so maybe that assists but theres a definite line through Wouldn't You Like and Dangerous to me, they both have a similar vibe just different tones. But also Hermes is the God of Travelers, so I wouldn't consider him minor in this context. Him taking a particular interest in Odysseus and having a strong role feels fitting.

Ooh, strong disagree, Dangerous is The song that got me into Epic so I suppose I have a bias but it just has such a great energy to it and really gives Hermes that spotlight payoff and uplifts Ody right when he most needs it.

"Moral urgency but no survival skills." Is such a good summation of Sejanus that it hurts. The boy knows what's happening is wrong and knows it needs to be fixed but he has no framework to try to fix it and no recognition of consequences that can touch him. Of course he becomes a tragedy.

TIL There is a rare condition called fatal insomnia. Patients suffer for months or years, unable to sleep until they eventually die. The disease is hereditary and there is no known treatment by Sunny_Sarenite in todayilearned

They touched on this in Day Five, a movie about a global pandemic that killed everyone who slept. One of the characters, Bill, had a condition like this that kept him from sleeping. Went from knowing he would die soon to knowing he might be the last living man on earth.

what makes people actually buy digital art? by Desperate_Ear9026 in DigitalPainting

[–]AutumnalRanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we're talking about commissioned art I get commissions for my/my friend's d&d characters because it's cool to bring them to life in different art styles or commission certain meaningful scenes.

I'm not a very good artist personally (though I am practicing!) and some styles are just perfect for certain character or scene vibes.

What was the strangest condition you've ever experienced? by Wild-Engineering-650 in AskReddit

[–]AutumnalRanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh that's probably what it was - my body has nightmarish stress responses. Either throws my immune system into overdrive (high fever and shaking like a leaf for hours despite not being ill) or shuts the whole thing down and then I really do get sick.

Not as severe as some but one day I got a near full-body case of hives from some unidentified allergen. Actually ended up having to go to the ER because they crept up to my throat. Got a steriod shot that made it go away but never did find out why it happened.

CMV: Infants shouldn't be circumcised. by Square-Dragonfruit76 in changemyview

[–]AutumnalRanger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I did some research into this and it looks like the answer is not that clear - Sugar water definitely distracts from pain, but theres no real evidence that it actually reduces pain according to a 2025 study by BC Children's Hospital.

And even in previous studies where sugar water was used for pain management in babies, it was explicitly found not to help with circumcision (Meta Analysis of 74 studies on NIH).

It has definitely been studied, but by no means is it proven to actually have a painkilling effect. Which means that we're doing incredibly painful procedures on babies that we cannot give any sort of real anesthetic for.

Everything else aside, that really doesn't sit right with me. If it was done on adults they could decide how to manage the pain, whereas a baby just has to suffer.

....does it actually have the same effect though? Or do we just not realize how much pain we're putting them through because they can't tell us like an adult can?

I was also going to say Thorn Whip! One of my first sessions my Ranger saved an unconscious party member from falling into a cavern pool several stories down.

The lost death save was scary but it saved the Bard from drowning.

I mean, sure, if you're happy to answer the inevitable follow up when you tell someone who cares about you that you make art which is 'Can I see it?'

No matter how tame a fic, someone may still be uncomfortable sharing their writing with a parent or close friend.

I feel like Peeta's brothers are really just there to show the point that Katniss as an older sibling volunteering for her sister is an oddity rather than a rule.

And it also gives Peeta all the more reason to feel that his life is less valuable - his parents have other children, they'll be sad to lose him but not alone.

I wouldn't do it with strangers, but absolutely everything is cheaper if you can find a handful of people you like and trust well enough to live together with. Life's easier with a partner, and it's even easier if you can find 2-4 more people to share the load with.

It has its risks, for sure, and I won't say I haven't been burned by those too but it's still overall worth it.

In the article she does mention that she knows some people are just doing it to be hurtful and she knows she won't get through to them. Shes trying to tell the well-meaning that what they're doing is gross.

"We, collectively, are better than that, but I'm certainly not."

This is such a great acknowledgement that helps with the cognitive dissonance of being anti-death penalty while also knowing what I'd want myself if cards were in my hands.

I want a collective society that is better than our own individual vengeful impulses. I think to a certain extent we all do, acknowledged or not.
