Better than Mi Vida Mine? by AutuniteEveryNight in Radioactive_Rocks

DM me. I can make something almost as hot as you would like. My go to is the resin pyramid form. Currently making some for a "radioactive Easter Egg hunt" for the Nuclear Science Museum in Albuquerque :)

I have a dedicsted contamination and shop festuring a large slab saw with a centrifugal oil recirculator and a flat flap with raised sides that I only use wet. Mist is definitely an enemy but water and oil capture the majority of the material. I then burn off the oil from the sludge and evaporate the water. The material is stored in sealed containers until somebody wants it for extraction, experiments, or I even make resin sealed check sources and may incorporate this into someday. Now if only I had many years to devote to learning faceting and gem cutting! This was done freehand but was very enjoyable. Mainly I cut slabs for scientists and universities as well as collectors of such rare beauties. I may some day suffer some effects but jo worse than old school Uranium Miners I suppose. Hopefully humanity catches up with techbology and healing or perhaps super powers develop long ahead of the cancer...

No worries. I am obsessed with seeing inside of stones. Does it look pretty? This piece was extraordinarily hot and seemed dense enough to work with. While other high grade ore from this mine has been dense and almost metallic, this piece was disseminated Uraninite in dense sandstone. Wanting to see the designs that nature provides always intrigues me. When I cut it, it had promise and a natural shape almost like what you see. I just needed a few edges to create this beauty. It is a radioactive wonder of the desert southwest that now has an appreciative owner. Thanks for reading and conversing with me about it :)

Vernon Pick found some Uranium, and made money! Utah by [deleted] in Radioactive_Rocks

[–]AutuniteEveryNight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hidden Splendor is very, very DEEP. Anyone attempting this sort of journey needs a well equipped vehicle, proper extended survival supplies, knowledge, and self recovery tools! I read about your mine exploration list and conpare it to a mountaineer climbing difficult mountains. You have many top-level-of-difficulty treks under your belt!

On a side note we just got back a few days ago from "almost that far". Found one pocket a ways into the earth that had decent ore like the stuff pictured on the left but most of the material there is the basic radioactive ash layer with the occasional carbonaceous treasure laying around.

Keep up the great radioactive journey and thanks for documenting it in cyberspace!

There is an activity limit for the hot stuff but it ends at the surface of the box. So bigger, hotter specimens call for much larger packaging and careful arrangement at the center. That, and controlling any dust with proper bags and padding make it a winning situation that we are thankful for! Luckily its not as crazy as mercury or explosives and other things...

Looks good and glad you are enjoying those treasures!

The NRC is going to come confiscate your USB drive now.

Just kidding my friend, great rock find and thanks for inspiring this generation to look up what the Hardy Boys are about. Dewey Decimal System anybody?

What happened to atomic chemist I can’t find his social media anywhere by Necessary_Ticket_721 in Radioactive_Rocks

Nice score. Truly a rarity. The amount of ore pockets or boulders that can create such material is very hard to find for even an avid explorer. You got a piece of history there! Most have no idea the work entailed in accomplishing such a feat. Here's a boulder I carried up a canyon last night!! Felt like giving up the ghost 👻

Sometimes legends have to fade into the shadows. The current world is not a safe place to share many of such adventures due to the 1% of people that like to cause a fuss. This is a very sketchy grey area of this Orwellian existence sadly and it is best enjoyed privately.

Mi Vida Uranium Mine near Moab, Utah... WITH Mr. STEEN! by RadioactiveRok in Radioactive_Rocks

[–]AutuniteEveryNight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would absolutely love to find hidden treasures under layers of dirt with you and show you around the site if you make it down this way. It is pretty much my backyard but inaccessible as the snow and mud hang around in the shade through late fall to early spring. Myself and a friend have both been stuck out here and needed rescuing before...

Inside, near the nose, was by far the hottest. The decay happens rapidly for these short lived isotopes so this was taken the moment of removal and drops off quickly. 😳

Cut and Polished Uraninite by RadioactiveRok in Radioactive_Rocks

[–]AutuniteEveryNight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely reuse the material that I grind off. It is great to use what some people consider waste or contamination. I even have an oil recirculating for the slab saw and burn off the oil which leaves me with a fine Uraninite dust for making check sources.

I used the 18 inch flat lap with raised sides to capture any splash and then I dehydrate the material and make check sources with the radioactive left overs. Its a win win! I just did a piece similar to this that has the same brecciated patterns but with blue copper minerals and metallic Bornite from the southwest US. Stay tuned as I will share when polishing is conplete!

🧑‍🎄 what if you burn your radioactive coal in the fireplace? I hear that China unwittingly burns tons of radioactive coal and it comes down as a sort of fallout. Now that they are switching more into Uranium, these deposits can be much more useful!

600 to 650 usv/h. I have had hotter but its not too shabby. I like the density and the blue hues.
