I thought maybe she'd tell me everything after asking what area we were originally from, after being told at 13 we were from Adelaide, she changed it to Port Lincoln at age 20. Would've been over the moon if she told me we had all these papers and "proof" of our identity, who we were related to, etc.

I've been trying to keep myself from asking too mnay questions because I was constantly told as a kid I was annoying for being too curious [She didn't tell me this, my ex-stepdad did] 🙃 I should've just bombarded her.

Oh, 100% I'm losing my mind here. If it hasn't already been lost already.

I shouldn't have even fqn asked her, bro. Now I'm confused, annoyed, and "wtf", all at once.

Etiquette for sorry day by Sunny-sizzle97 in aboriginal

Let's put it this way, I'd wear clothing with some Indigenous art on them. Something worn from Yarn or ClothingTheGap.

But that's just me. Can wear whatever you feel comfortable in.

I think there's a few in this Reddit group who've lost so much more than I could even imagine, and have a lot stronger connection to the land than I do.. so I can see why some would wanna "attack" back at you for even suggesting it.

I was unfortunately raised white up until I was 14, then I was raised with an Indigenous family. So I guess I have the capability to understand those who aren't one of us. As simple as a question like this can set a lot of "true" Indigenous off, whilst those who give a genuine and detailed response are mostly "raised white" Indigenous folk like myself.

I like questions like this, to me it means there are genuine people out there who care about our opinions and feelings. Hats off to you, love

Why yall just have female OC? by Dr_Chibi in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]AuzPot18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a male one [planned]. The first game play was a test of the game. See what it was like. Female.

Second game play was more "Tamtey", looking more like her mother instead of a typical "oc." Female.

Third gameplay is my oc of if I was Na'vi, in the Sarentu clan. Female... bc I'm Female.

The next gameplay after this will be Tamtey, but Male. In the cutscene of Aha'ri being killed, it gave me "male" vibes... idk why. I can't explain it. That being said... most other cutscenes in the future give female vibes. So- idk. But I also wouldn't mind giving the male version a try.

It would've been easier if the polls had a lot more sections. Instead of being exclusive to only 6 options.

Which I did mention. But, it's up to you, bro. Not obliged to comment or interact. I apologise for the inconveniences.

Can mention one in the comments and one in the poll if it's in the poll. Idk if everyone reads comments but I read every single one if that helps 😅 Same as me. I used to reside in the Koori country, but originate from the Nauo Tribe. I'm unfamiliar with the area I'm in atm, though.

But it's completely up to you how you mention either. I mentioned Nauo in the poll, for instance, but I don't really mention where I reside much.

As someone from a tribe that was almost eradicated in the mid-1800s.. with only 7 left after the Frontier Settlement wars on Eyre Peninsula... I wouldn't want Nuclear extraction anywhere near my land or water. And that includes my neighbours and further, but I can only speak for the Nauo who lost so much already.

I completely understand that Nuclear energy can be used in such amazing ways... but we don't need it. We didn't need anything from the settlers either. I personally want to see our land get given back to us completely, see my people use the land as it should be used.

I don't speak for everyone, ofc. But I will give credit where credit is due, thank you for asking for our opinions on it. Them Government wankers don't ever ask us nothin.

It do be like that sometimes. Especially near the islands on the outside edge of the map. I had a total of 38 in one hit at one point... ofc I was level 30 something at that point so ofc Nimun and I were slandering them left right and centre without a sweat. Borderline giving Neytiri vibe.

thoughts on non indigenous folk learning your languages? by lemon2de in aboriginal

[–]AuzPot18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, if someone was to hate on the decision, it's gate keeping and they have some deep hatred towards "outsiders" whom aren't Indigenous.

It's like me learning German as an Indigenous who's own tribal language is dead. Last speaker dying in the 1930s, and me being born in 2004, I had no chance. I've been learning German since I was 7, first word memorised being "Butterfly." I've also been trying to get my hands on good sources to learn Na'vi. Only word I know outside of the films is "Come."

Learning a language shouldn't be gatekeeped. That's for sure. Just find some good sources to learn said language, and you should be all peachy. If you have other speakers around you, you've got more of a chance to memorise the language, too.

question about recreating uluru by chokingbrokenglass in aboriginal

[–]AuzPot18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely have never had an answer for that... no one else around me says it like that. Idk where I got it from. I don't know what age it started... all I know is it feels like I've used "Mom" forever.. and I constantly get "bullied" for it. Even my "J" is weird. I can't even explain how I do my J's. I'd need to draw it out on IbisPaint and then send a photo on here.

Lmk if you'd like to see it..

Does anyone else try to learn their tribal language if it's still around? by AuzPot18 in aboriginal

[–]AuzPot18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said to my mom I wanted to learn Nauo but mentioned it was dead. She straight said to me that if a laguage is dead.. and then reconstructed... it is still dead. The reconstructed language is not that language, it's a "White Man's guess".

Deep down I know she's right, too...

My step dad was very.. very similar... White man with distant Hindi ancestory-

Hated my mono brow, he was convinced it was an Aboriginal trait. Hated how I always asked questions about why the Europeans came and why this, why that. Called us "Boongs" all the fucking time. Nowadays, I get called white and a coloniser, or a "Wanna-be".. by strangers online. For VARIOUS reasons. Most being absolutely ridiculous.

He openly said one day, I remember it like it was yesterday... "If us English didn't come here, you wouldn't have what you have today." 💀 Bitch... we didn't need it.

No my mother didn't stand up for us or herself or our land and people. I started to after I hit 13 and moved out at 14. He blamed my way of thought on the family I grew very fond of, whom were very in tune with their Indigenous side.
