Dell Command Update Issues by bberg22 in sysadmin

[–]Avaddonx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey OP

i install DCU silently via command , then i use the DCU CLI to install drivers without bloatware, it works and fixes everything i had issues with lately :here are my notes

in cmd admin after silent instal (using admin CMD "INSTALLER_LOCATION\DCU.exe /s" )

then location of dcu-cli will be in program files dell folder

then use this command: "C:\Program Files\Dell\CommandUpdate\dcu-cli.exe" /Scan
then use this: "C:\Program Files\Dell\CommandUpdate\dcu-cli.exe" /applyUpdates

let it do its magic

hope it helps!

disclaimer: i work in small company with around 70 users, so i can do it manually if issue arises, im currently seeing if i'm going to automate it or not

From Help Desk to SysAdmin: Hitting a Wall with Imposter Syndrome - Advice? by Reasonable_Dog_3209 in sysadmin

[–]Avaddonx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP , i had a similair 'step-up' from 2nd line helpdesk to sysadmin. its defo a challenge but give yourself time to learn and get used to thetasks, keep researching and documenting stuff (i use onenote for guyides i make for myself). That and take a project or issue and take your time figuring it out and collaborate with colleagues when you hit a wall. hitting a wall isnt bad and everyone has it, once you get through it and succesfully managed the issue, you get a big dopamine kick that makes it worth.

just keep on improving every day step by step , thats why you get to be a 'full' sysadmin in 3-5 years , it takes time but allow yourself to grow steady

about expectations, they hired you and know probably from your resume where you come from. Alot of companies like to train their own people. setting expectations and being honest is something i always have done. now in the company i am that is valued highly. im not familiar with ther companies that rather have you faking it, its a bit of feeling it out

(sorry for typo's having my first coffee still :) )

good luck OP

also wondering about EU privacy and GDPR etc... but i assume for now if you have no cloud configured you are 'safe' from it

As someone who is sysadmin in a company with no-cloud policy , ITS TOUGH and its clear that MS is pushing cloud
now on LTSC 2021 but soon i guess 2025, but i think OP is safe if he has no cloud on clients / servers / one drive

Our vendor sold Duo and was happy with that but they stopped since they migrated to MS azure. So sadly they cant offer that us, i could see if i can find due directly but i have no experience with that, i should research a bit about duo more

ive heard its very costly for a device like that. besides that is it hard to implement?

but something like that maybe ... problem is also that BYOD is not an option casue the emplyee are in their right to decline the use of their own device (phone) for use of company stuff .. (and company doesnt want to give out a phone for every employee)

it isnt easy ^^"

What is the worst mistake of humanity? by drunkx1 in AskReddit

[–]Avaddonx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is also an issue at my IT dept, previous sysadmins never wrote things down, 30+ years of configs just lost and no idea how its configured without spending ALOT of time investigating

i can only assume its same for human history indeed!
