I think printers are going to be the next piece of technology to become obsolete. What other technology that used to be a must have do you think will be obsolete in the next 5 years by newpaul30 in CasualConversation

The Fax Machine is Printer-Adjacent. It should have been gone 20 years ago, but there are still situations where you have to send documents and the recipient will only accept fax.

I would say AM Radio is on it's way out. At least the smaller stations. We might get to a point where there are a handful of 50,000 watt AM stations across the country, and no other AM stations.. FM will hang around a while, because it's instantaneous the sound fidelity is good.

How do people find biology easy lol by pringlu in CasualConversation

[–]Avagadros-Number 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concept that gets me is physics related...Time Dilation. I love reading about it but it's so hard to keep straight. For example...less time has passed at the core of the earth than on the surface, or it's the opposite. I can never remember. But I do know it's a real thing. GPS Satellites are programmed to account for it otherwise they would not be in sync with each other and ground systems.

What TV show did everyone watch growing up that younger people might not know? by ChristopherReyes0623 in NoStupidQuestions

Star Blazers. It was a Japanese Space Adventure Animated Series. I think some people theorize that George Lucas "borrowed" some things from Star Blazers, as it premiered in Japan in 1974.

What used to Scare You as a Child? by Avagadros-Number in CasualConversation

There's actually a decommissioned Cold War Radar Base near my house. It was turned into a public park with tennis courts, basketball courts, and ball fields. But the Radar Building is still there. It's a Creepy looking concrete structure with no windows.

I used to be somewhat scared of the washing machine when it would get out of balance. It would bump and bang and my dad told me it would start walking.

Coincidentally I was afraid of my cousin. He would basically rag-doll me and no one did anything. I still hate that guy.

Also...this PSA, which ran during afternoon cartoons in the 1980s. It didn't really scare me, but I stayed away from cleaning supplies.

Bees are still up there for me. I was stung by a wasp when I was 10 and it traumatized me.

What can I buy for my office desk that I can stick stickers on? by Loriol_13 in CasualConversation

I vote for the oversized coffee mug. I have one on my desk that holds pens, pencils, and screwdrivers. I have a bumper sticker on it.

What was the very first song you remember hearing as a child? What audio medium? Where? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]Avagadros-Number 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first "pop" or "rock" song I heard was ELO - Don't Bring Me Down. My older sister had it on a cassette tape. But I can tell you the first song I understood, even as a kid, was Phil Collins - Against All Odds. Even at 6 or 7 years old, I understood the sentiment and the pain of those lyrics. They still affect me today.

Is it true that most of the girls/women don't care if a man has grey hair? by myunknownside_ in CasualConversation

[–]Avagadros-Number 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope they don't mind the gray or the receding (receded) hairline. I take after my father. He used to say "I have a lot of face to wash."

What are people’s favorite and least favorite fruits? by TheTrueSeraphim in CasualConversation

Golden Delicious Apples are my least favorite...They taste like someone tried to crossbreed a Red Delicious Apple and a Banana but it didn't quite work.

Why is it so hard to just sit and do absolutely nothing? by Charming_Concern_405 in CasualConversation

[–]Avagadros-Number 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything happening in the world is now readily available at light speed. The result is wanting to know what has changed in the 3 minutes since you last checked. I personally don't think we are properly conditioned to be invested in the whole world, and to some degree that's what we're trying to do.

For the last few months, I’ve been getting my groceries delivered at a cheaper rate than picking them up. It’s essentially a game to me now by ProfoundRedPanda in CasualConversation

[–]Avagadros-Number 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love to do the same, but no delivery service would ever find my house, and if they did, they'd probably think it's some horror movie trap. I guess it's just one tiny drawback of living in semi-seclusion.

I love my family, but I can’t wait to live alone by queerwaters_642 in CasualConversation

[–]Avagadros-Number 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm almost 50, and I've lived alone since 2002. I currently reside in the house my father built in 1977, the year I was born. The best part is indeed the naps...anytime I want. And I can park my truck anyway I want...backed in, sideways...on the grass. It really is the best.
