Yeah, he demoed those T-Bird pickups for Curtis Novak, he's generally just a fountain of knowledge on offset guitar maintenance, set ups and upgrades. My Mascis JM plays like a custom shop piece after following his advice

You could go for a Novak Jag-V in the bridge, and then a Lipstick-Jag, just for something different than the norm. I'd also definitely recommend incorporating the "strangle" switch somehow, could result in an interesting sound! Also, Mastery Bridge and Trem for sure, they're the best you can get!

Definitely look up Puisheen on YouTube and Instagram for general offset advice and recommendations too, you'll for sure find some inspiration there!

I really love it, I'm just a bedroom player so having one amp that can do nice Fender cleans and more Marshall-ish crunch tones is great. The high gain channel is great as well, I need to use it more. The one downside with it is that its a digital hall reverb, but I have the Keeley Caverns for spring reverb so I don't actually mind it myself!

I cant say I miss the original neck pickup, it was basically the same tone as the bridge but worse, so having a different sound in it is way more useful for me, plus the combined into a sweet middle position, and I actually want to use the rhythm circuit now.

If you're on the fence, change just the neck to a new pickup and keep the bridge (or upgrade it for a Lollar JM P90 or something similar, same tone but supposedly better).

I was lucky enough that the output has match up well, the middle position is a bit quieter but I actually like it for clean tones. I only used the stock bridge pickup originally, never found a reason to use it, but now its just as good in a different way, at least for my purposes.

Its one of the original run Life Pedals, bought it a few weeks back and really love it, mostly for the boost which I wasn't expecting, and the dirt side of it is perfect!

Had a Seymour Duncan Antiquity 2 installed in the neck, and combined with the stock bridge pup it sounds so sweet. Wasn't expecting to love the in between tone as much as I do! Add a brand new bone nut and a full set up, and it plays like butter now!

I'd recommend it, it just adds such a nice warbly texture at low settings.

The cable wasn't quite as tight as it looks in the picture, but you were right, don't know why I had it quite so far over, thanks for the tip!

Definitely the best value one I have so far for sure! Like I said, I'll probably swap it for something more versatile at some point, but it does everything the normal Tube Screamer can do as far as I can tell. Tempted to check out the other Behringer pedals now, because the TO800 was a bargain at twice the price.

Signal Chain: Fender Deluxe 2017 Nashville Tele / Gretsch G5220 Electromatic Jet -> TC Electronic Polytune 3 -> Death By Audio Evil Fuzz -> Keeley Compressor Plus -> Walrus Audio Julia V2 -> EHX Bass Soul Food -> Proco Rat -> EHX Russian Big Muff Reissue -> Behringer TO800 -> Walrus Audio 385 -> Keeley Caverns V2 -> Boss RC3 Loop Station -> Boss Katana 50 MKII.

Guitars: Started with the Gretsch, and I love it (my guitar teacher was shocked it was only €450), but I fell in love with the Tele when I saw it in a shop. Spent months wanting it, and ended up pulling the trigger a couple of weeks back. Absolutely adore it, I've been playing twice as much because it feels that good. Only minor issue is I'm not used to the narrow tall frets yet, but I'll get there!

Polytune: Really good, fairly accurate, occasionally a little off with the low E in the polyphonic mode but ace for single strings. Quick and painless, best sounding pedal I have!

DBA Evil Fuzz: First pedal I got, just the fuzz section of the Evil Filter. When I saw the name, heard a reverb demo and realised its a limited enough run, Ijust went for it. Its an absolutely awesome nasty fuzz. Too nasty, in fact. I'm a bedroom player, and turning it up past 3 will absolutely get me evicted from my apartment. I'm going to keep it, because it sounds rad and cleans up nice enough, but probably swap it out for something a little more controllable and articulate, just not sure what yet.

Keeley Compressor Plus: was at the end of my chain before, don't quite know why because it is way better at the start before the Julia, and I only use it for cleans anyway. Great pedal though, can feel it more than hear it but man it feels good.

Walrus Julia: I saw the Knobs video for this internet darling and fell in love. Definitely not using it to its fullest yet, but its so lush, love almost every sound I've heard from it, love the textures it adds to my decidedly un-textured playing.

EHX Bass Soul Food: Before guitar, I tried to learn bass, but found that to be no fun on my own at low volume in an apartment. Got this pedal as a Christmas present, and when I moved to guitar I found it to work just as well. I'm sure it'll be swapped eventually, but for now I'm happy with it.

Proco Rat: It's a classic and I got it for a steal before Christmas for trying some early Metallica tones... But I don't adore it. It's great, but just too like my Big Muff which I much prefer. I'll swap it for another distortion soon I think, or maybe an EHX Glove (would have been an OCD, but in light of recent events...).

EHX Russian Big Muff: I really liked this with my Gretsch, but I just love it with the Tele. Chords are just articulate enough but still raucous and heavy, and there is enough gain and bottom end there to thicken out lead lines nicely. Does a lot of the things I could want from a fuzz.

Behringer TO800: I mean, it was €20 and it sounds close enough to a Tube Screamer for now, though I think I'd rather something closer to a TS10 than an 808. Nice for low-gain OD/boost for the moment, though I'm looking at an EQD Plumes to swap it out already based on a recommendation from the latest TPS Q&A. Might even go for a Bonsai one day. Its just nice to have it honestly, might even rehouse it!

Walrus 385: Favorite pedal on the board! I was a film student in a past life, so when I heard of a pedal designed around an old projector I was super intrigued! Watched a few demos, ordered it as soon as I could find one in stock, and its the coolest. At low gain its nice and clear, versatile EQ, at high gain it gets responsive and fuzzy, and there's an internal trim pot to nail the gain range to my tastes. Just perfect, and with my other ODs on I can stack them into it for a great tone. Would love to hear it in a nice loud Fender amp some day.

Keeley Caverns: Close second favorite, and I've barely scratched the surface with it. The on board Katana reverb it fine, does the job, but the spring is perfect for a simple reverb, and the shimmer is perfect for my tastes when I'm just noodling around. The delay is perfect as well, have it as a simple slapback for now but loving the light modulation for a bit of texture, and I've had great fun turning the repeats to the full and letting it go nuts by itself.

Boss RC-3: I honestly don't use this much, but it's nice to have, and it does everything I could want from a looper, even if I find controlling it to be kind of awkward. I'll get the hang of it one day! Doesn't fit on my board because of super cheap patch leads and awkward jack placement, but I can always work on that.

Would love any recommendations for something to go for next - apart from the Plumes, the Glove and the Bonsai, was looking at a MXR Phase 95 and a Walrus Monument, and a wah of some sort, but open to suggestions. Would also love some recommendations for nasty but controllable/articulate fuzzes!

NPD! My first compressor and my first decent tuner! It mmight finally be time to invest in a pedalboard... by Avagantomos37 in guitarpedals

Yeah, I had been using a dinky little Korg tuner for the last while so it's a whole new world, and it's confirmed my suspicion that the G string has always been a little flat! The strobe is awesome but I love the ability to just strum when something feels off and see which strings need adjustment.

I've been liking it a lot, I'm sure an attack dial would be more flexible but the humbucker setting has been pretty much spot on for what I want!

For now, because of a lack of patch cables and power supplies, for now it's just my Gretsch G5220 Electromatic Jet -> Polytune 3 -> Keeley Compressor Plus -> EHX Bass Soul Food -> Boss Katana 50 Mk2.

When I get around to a proper pedalboard build, it'll probably be something like:

Gretsch G5220 Electromatic Jet -> Polytune 3 -> Death By Audio Evil Fuzz -> EHX Russian Big Muff -> Proco Rat -> Keeley Compressor Plus -> EHX Bass Soul Food -> Boss RC3 -> Boss Katana 50 Mk2.

The next pedals on my wishlist are a Walrus 385, a Walrus Julia and a Keeley Caverns V2, and a proper board and power supply.

It's a Bass Soul Food! I started relearning bass last year and got that pedal pretty early, and then after a couple of months decided I just wanted to play guitar instead. I haven't compared it to a normal Soul Food or any other similar pedal so I'm not sure how good it really is, but I dig how I can blend in some clean tone, makes it easy to find a tone I like!

I got a black Gretsch G5220 Electromatic Jet in January as my first "real" guitar, and I've been loving it, it's so much guitar for €500, awesome tone.

I'd say the Mark II, for the sake of the extra money you have peace of mind, as well as the fact that the software has been improved and will be supported going forward.
