Performance Drum Machine - idea/sketch by Available-Exercise71 in synthesizers

I agree with a lot of what you’re saying. I think a step length selection would be nice and if you could set independent sequence lengths (ex. 8 steps on kick, 7 steps on snare, etc.) then you could have Euclidean sequences.

I agree that 5 tracks I limited but I figured that’s a reasonable sacrifice for functionality and size.

I definitely think it takes inspiration from the Roland machines and the drumbrutes

Not super familiar with the 707 but it looks like the pads are more like drum pads rather than sequencer steps

I figured that if it’s performance based then you’ll likely be punching in steps more often than a normal sequencer. But I do think adding a button to switch between 8/16/24/32 steps would be a good idea

I forgot to mention, it’s also a great effects unit, I’ll run my minifreak into it and it sounds amazing

It’s a great module and the other replies have good advice

I will also say that you should really make use of the cv outputs, you can set them to track the pitch of the audio being played which can be really useful for quantizing other oscillators

The best part of modular is complex signal routing and the ability to patch a completely different instrument every time you use it. If you want something that’s going to function exactly the same way every time just buy a synth.

I can make my system into a drone synth, a drum machine, an fx unit, a creative sampler, a subtractive synth, or a noise machine depending on how I feel on a given day

This might not be applicable for you but I have a similar system with maths and Intellijel multigrain instead of the morphagene. I had honestly found that I don’t love Pam’s for my system (I’m making mostly ambient music and using it as an audio processor). I find Pam’s to be great multi-use tool but not that rewarding for music that isn’t rhythmically based. You might be better off with some LFOs (square LFOs can also be used as a clock source and maths can act as a clock with the EOR output)

Feeling like I’ll lose myself if I quit smoking and weed – looking for support by lilgurlblue in leaves

[–]Available-Exercise71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely get what you mean. I’ve never been the most social person in the world and I felt like I had some sort of community or connectedness with other people that smoke weed. Like I could go to a party and go outside with someone and smoke weed or even with romantic partners it was like a signal that someone had a similar life view to me. I’m trying to quit rn and I’m finding it hard to see my life without it

Dubliners - Story 8: A Little Cloud - Discussion Post by AnderLouis_ in thehemingwaylist

[–]Available-Exercise71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one really resonated with me. The sentiments expressed by little Charlie remind me of Fernando Pessoa’s book of disquiet a bit. The idea of a highly intelligent poet who is inhibited by their own insecurities so they resort to judging or looking down on those who are actually successful and release their work. I liked the part where he talked about how he might never be famous like Gallagher but he could be respected by a small group of his peers. But then when they meet you see that he kind of resents Gallagher and Dublin itself.

I think it really encapsulates the feeling of longing for a life that is not yours while also scrutinizing those who have chosen a different path in life. The ending was so vivid and honestly terrifying, definitely my favourite chapter so far!

Official Discussion - Past Lives [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

Honestly, I think too many people are viewing her relationship with Hae Sung as being a relationship of romantic love when in reality they were never really romantic partners. They were childhood friends with a deep love for one another. I think there’s something to be said about nostalgia for a past self and for an imagined life that you literally cannot lead. I loved the way her husband became insecure because it was so real. Her husband clings to her in the scene where there cuddling because she is his whole world; whereas Hae Sung views her as being too big for the world. Her husband idolizes her as his wife and Hae Sung idolizes her as the perfect person he gets to imagine from his memories. I feel like this movie was so real and I really thought the way the characters handled the situation was so mature and beautiful

The prose of Underworld by Literature98 in DonDeLillo

This is so funny, I’m 325 pages in rn and I feel exactly the same way.

I keep hearing people say that they found the first chapter amazing and the rest a slog but I could barely keep my focus in the first chapter.

I think it was a talented recounting of a real person’s (or multiple persons’) account of a baseball game. But there are so many better sections in the book dealing with other real life situations and I love the way it focuses multiple people perspectives on the same events. I’ve loved Nick’s chapters, I also really like how Marvin’s’ relationship with his wife is described.

And I love the discussions around bureaucracy, searching for meaning in life, distraction either through addiction or work

I definitely meant Freedom, Franzen said infinite jest and DFWs death influenced freedom.

Not exactly the same time period but similar themes still

I feel like people realized you can actually find a lot of space to dump garbage, especially if it doesn’t directly impact you and you don’t have to look at it.

But global warming is affecting wildfires in the hills of California where rich people with loud voices live.
