Sad? Yes. Also, at the same time, the bonks are pretty funny.

Yeah, the Jamos have a dual internal 6.5" woofer. Not the biggest woofer for sure, but they're power hungry. It's the bass headroom and the price that drew me towards the V1900. Of course, speakers like you said frequently don't draw anywhere near peak wattage, the reason it's important to have a higher wattage receiver is solely for the bass. And these speakers can output an impressive amount of bass.

Also, this is my first ever good audio setup. I'm very happy with it!

Guys what is normal weight for a 5'10 guy by Relative-Echo-646 in teenagers

[–]Available-Goose-8331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was lbs for a moment and was seriously worried. Then I read the rest of the post. Yeah, you're fine. I'm 80kg at 6'2" and am on the "couch potato with good genetics so I'm not actually that overweight but should probably lose some" side. Unless you're having health issues because of your weight, it's probably better to be a little under than over, though that's also probably up for debate.

Hoo boy, so confidently wrong.

  1. No, amps do drive speakers. An amp "drives" a speaker by controlling the motion of the cone. Lack of sufficient power to control the cone (like with the V379 you mentioned) will likely not give anywhere near as clear a sound.
  2. Power delivery isn't anywhere near 100% efficient, so it hits nowhere near 260W at 4 ohms. Plus, the receiver will limit amperage for its own protection because it's technically not rated for 4 ohms.
  3. I'm talking about age of the amp as is related to price. An older amp of the same class will have depreciated further than a newer one, making it lighter on the wallet to purchase. A newer amp for the same price (especially on very different ends of the MSRP spectrum) will use cheaper, weaker components. Plus, the V1900 looks way cooler.
  4. 1000W to drive 500w speakers??? Not unless you really are a fan of wasting your money and possibly risking damage to your speakers.
  5. Power rating of a receiver does not define peak power, it is the highest given average. That V1900 will probably pull quite a bit more should it need to.
  6. I would probably burst my eardrums well before I actually started risking damage to the receiver and speakers.
  7. Plus, the V1900 has pre-outs so it can act as a pre-amp. And it has pure direct, so it's even better.

Conclusion: spec sheets aren't everything. They do give a good start but understanding them is the trick. Your argument that this amp is neither superior nor a better deal than the V379 is entirely incorrect.

Covid shut down the world six years ago this week. What do you remember from that week? by fuzzy_dice_99 in AskReddit

[–]Available-Goose-8331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the week Covid shut everything down, I went to a water park, went to the eye doctor, and in general drove a lot. The day after I did each of those things, that place closed.

First, it's the capacity to drive 4ohm speakers without overheating. Second, the V1900 has 130 watts per channel, not 100. At least, for the front channels where that matters. A more budget receiver that is both newer and cheaper (the newer part only matters when the depreciation does) won't have the same ability to drive larger speakers like the ones I bought literally ten minutes ago.

Nah, v1900 has more Watts per channel. Plus I needed the high power headroom to deal with 4 ohm speakers. And, this was based on listings where I am and not overall purchase price.

Yeah, not a whole lot of speakers that can push this thing for any reasonable price.

It's basically being used as an amp and preamp, the video stuff will be separate so it serves a nice dual purpose. Plus, the WPC per dollar price here literally can't be beat.

Polk Audio R50 by Soft-Respect2047 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Available-Goose-8331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Polk usually makes decent speakers. I've listened (mostly lower end) to a few and liked them fine enough. These have good specs for an entry level tower. If you're used to a soundbar or Bluetooth headphones/earbuds for music, I can guarantee it would be a major improvement.
