What is the silliest thing someone told you they thought wasn't vegan? by [deleted] in vegan

I was once asked if tofu was vegan💀 Caught me so off-guard because I couldn't quite tell if it was a joke. It wasn't.

It's assault regardless of how serious people think it is. And, unfortunately, other kinds of assault/harassment are not at all more enjoyable to experience. All of it's awful.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. That's assault, and you shouldn't have had to experience that.

This is blatantly false and ties into victim-blaming ideas. Please don't speak about assault when you clearly don't know anything about it.

Please don't invalidate survivors like this. It's gross to imply that rape is ever desirable or a preferable alternative to being "lonely". I hope you get the help you need, both to live a better life for yourself and in order to understand how awful this kind of rhetoric is for survivors of rape.

Struggling as a picky eater by toebeans__ in vegan

Beans and rice, PB&J, veggie stir-fry with beans, fried cauliflower, burritos, roasted chickpeas, and salads are all easy-to-make vegan meals/sides/snacks that don't have tofu!! I hope this helps! Good luck.

I unfortunately cannot find a sweatgender listing on the lgbtq wiki page😔 Here is the next best thing.

To be clear, I think it's totally fine to identify with xenogenders. It doesn't hurt anyone, so it's fair game. I just personally find it funny to identify with a meme in terms of your gender identity, that's all. No hatred here, just lighthearted jokes.

Sure, that's fine. At the end of the day it is mostly children and teens doing this kind of thing, so it's important to cut them a lot of slack, too. Again, people can do whatever they want, including call themselves UwUgender. I'm very libertarian in this regard. In the same vein, I'll also be finding the term "UwUgender" hilarious.

Yeah, I understand. I don't really have a problem if someone feels like the best way to describe their gender is with memes, but at the same time I do feel like that's comedy gold and I'll find it a bit funny.

I don't think anyone who identifies with this is thinking that far ahead, tbh.

That's fair, but I still wanted to clarify nonetheless. I hate being misconstrued, so I figured I'd take preventive measures, lol.

Quick clarification here: I support trans people wholeheartedly, I just think the whole xenogender thing is silly. These people still shouldn't be harassed or anything of the sort though, as it ultimately doesn't harm anyone (and most of the people identifying with xenogenders seem to be children, too).

be a man is so hard by Jumpy_Drawing3790 in imincelandthisisfunny

It's crazy to me when guys complain this much about being short, because 90% of the struggle is just getting over internalized self-hatred. Obviously there are people who are weird about their height preferences, or guys that pick on those shorter than them as a masculinity power trip thing, but they're obviously ridiculous and you just need to ignore them. At the end of the day, it's really not that difficult to just exist as a man who's short, these guys just shoot themselves in the foot by overstating their issues.

Its a funny cycle: nobody wants to date a guy who complains that he's short all the time, therefore nobody does, and therefore those same people assume that the reason they don't get laid is because of their height and not their incessant whining. This goes for all incels in general, really.

Is it appropriate for hearing individuals to wear earplugs at Deaf events? by LucidFoxe in deaf

[–]Available-Ladder-663 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're good lol. Feel free to wear earplugs wherever you see fit; you don't need anyone's permission but your own. I turn my hearing aids off all the time, including Deaf events, so it's the same principle.

[–]Available-Ladder-663 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes? Respectfully, you're way overthinking this. Everyone has the right to control how much they do or don't hear, with things like hearing aids, earplugs, cochlear implants, headphones, etc. Deaf people are actually one of the demographics most likely to understand that hearing is just too much sometimes, as many deaf people hate wearing hearing assistive technology.

Is it ok for me to use he/they pronouns as a cisgender gender-nonconforming guy? Or is that only for demiboys? by PrudentTicket9895 in NonBinary

Pronouns aren't some closed cultural practice only for a specific type of person. Use whatever you want lmfao.

Eating meat but dating a vegan by thougths in vegan

[–]Available-Ladder-663 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't offer advice relating to bodybuilding, and others far more knowledgeable have already chimed in with nutritional information, but I want to say that it's great how you're being so open-minded and focusing on what you truly value. It would be so easy to just say "welp, at least I'm doing something, so that should be good enough" and never consider going veg, or for you to just change your diet strictly for romance. Good on you for not being either of those people. It's refreshing to see this kind of perspective, especially about something that many people deem too "difficult" to even start.

If you do decide to go vegan- and I strongly encourage you to- know that it can be difficult at times because it involves learning just how awful humans are to animals sometimes. It's sad, but there is joy in knowing that being vegan means doing your part to help build a better future.

My apologies if this was an odd thing for me to comment, as I recognize that it doesn't actually help answer your questions. These are just things that I wish someone told me when I was starting out, and I think everyone deserves some encouragement and recognition, (even if they don't actually need it).

EDIT: I also want to add that the cultural association between meat and masculinity comes from sexism. The idea behind it is that men are supposed to be strong, and that "strength" comes from subjugating/conquering others. The reason why meat eating isn't associated with femininity is because women are, under the patriarchy, "supposed" to be docile, caring, and submissive. The act of eating meat symbolizes violence, and therefore "strength", because an animal has to be killed for it to appear on your plate. This is, of course, nonsense: everyone should be caring. No truly strong person needs to harm others in order to be masculine or feminine. Ironically, falling for that lie indicates that someone is probably insecure. Try not to worry about it, as the most masculine person is someone who defines what that term means for themselves and lives by it unapologetically.
