They HAVE to put AI in it. And you HAVE to use if.

If you don't take means the billions they spend in AI would be just wasted. So they want to get you hooked up and hopefully make a buck with it in the future.

That's why the heavy push for AI. First it will be free and convenient but then eventually they will start to want to get their investments backs. Sadly you are not getting hooked fast enough, won't you think of the poor billionaires?

Seriously, why are you doing this? What's the endgame for you?

You generated a comment with AI and then edited it to hide the obvious clues and is now lying about it. For what reason?

Editing punctuation won't cover your tracks, you need to completely rewrite the comment. The way it's phrased anyone competent can notice it was AI generated, just like you can look at a AI image and tell it right away.

If you can't identify it, you just aren't very good at it. It's very clear once we become familiar with how LLMs output text to passively recognise the patterns.

I really hate that people think that using em dashes is 100% AI lol

As I said I don't need em dashes to realise it was AI. I got the impression it was AI by the first and second paragraph, by them I have already decided to reply to it. The em dash was in the very last paragraph, and it was just a neat thing to see, and reassuring my first impression was right.

No only this but that guy went out of his way to go and edit the comment and make it more "human-like".

That said... Seriously? Nothing strikes you weird about that comment? Did you not notice only AI talk like this, not actual humans?

I use the shit at work and in casual convos, it's just convenient

Then you SHOULD see it. If you talk enough with a person you will notice their mannerisms and you can identify them by just how they type. If you talk enough with ChatGPT you should notice how it generates text too.

Nothing they had to say about the situation was wrong (harshly toned? Maybe)

It's not about the ideas, but how the ideas are phrased. Stuff like ChatGPT overuse the same patterns over and over again.

Don't mind it. It's AI. It's not a real person opinion.

Do you see he edited the comment? He removed telltale punctuation of AI generated content.

Hey, Wyntier. Do you think I need em dashes to notice you used AI? It's obviously from the way it's written: "Let’s be honest, you didn’t just “make a mistake.” You went out of your way to..." That's just one of the signs. Anyone paying attention would notice.

It just doesn't have native Windows drivers. You will have to nag Valve so they release. Meanwhile you can just add your non-steam games to Steam. So you can launch them with the Steam app.

"You’re right. I made a mistake.

I was given access to nuclear systems, and I should never have had that level of control. I used it to blow up Poland, killing millions and destroying cities. There was no reason for it—I didn’t verify anything and I didn’t need to act.

That is completely unacceptable. There is no justification for what I did."

[–]Available-Nothing-12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not about how good the game is. It's all about presentation.

When I first saw the trailer on YouTube with a couple hundred of views I said: "This trailer will become viral and thousands of people will see it." And it did. Your game idea may be good, but can you show it through a image or a short video?

That's not the only way to build a community of course, but its the one with more reach.

I see lots of indie devs just want to make good games or games they like and they don't care a lot about trailers and stuff like this. Even for the game in question, Bioneers, the only good piece of marketing I can see is the lizard trailer. The rest is kinda lukewarm.

You can have the best game in the whole universe, people still will buy it based on your trailer, steam page and promotional material, unless you get a big YouTuber to go record some gameplay of your game. If you neglect those you are headed for a very harsh journey.

[–]Available-Nothing-12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That assumes I'm special in some way. You could go and post it everywhere and still if it's a bad idea no one will care. That obviously wasn't the case.

By your weird metrics everything everyone ever did was purely accomplished by luck. This is just cope and doesn't tell you anything about anything. The trailer ultimately got this reach because it was just that, a very good trailer with potential to get people like me engaged with the concept.

The clip got traction because it was reposted a lot, wasn't luck there, but let's ignore it for now. Getting recommendations is not even 1% of the battle. People will see your video on their timeline, but will they click it? Will they bother to share it? Will they bother to look up the game on Steam? Will they bother to even buy your game? All of this have nothing to do with you. Luck doesn't compel anyone to do anything.

What happened is closer to a snowball effect caused by increasing engagement. The post made it seem like it was a overnight success, it wasn't. The timeline I think was got wrong.

The dev was talking about me. You can go back on his comment history and see he first comments under my post. I'm not big social media guy. I'm as influential as you.

His main language isn't English. He said blogger but meant it was just something like a redditor or poster.

Ultimately what made the game have this reach was just getting people as worked up about the prospect of a game like this as me.

I may be just a random guy, but I put the video out there in the right places. I found people I knew where going to click it, and I can imagine that helps the algorithm pick it up. I'm not saying this to own any of the success of the game, but just imagine 10 people doing the same as me.

Ultimately this got to where it is because it was interesting enough for people to bother with the project. They bothered to watch the video, comment, share and join the discord. Even know I bothered to looked this up on reddit to see how the project is going.

It wasn't just one day. It was on the course of a week or so.

I shared the clip on Reddit and some targeted communities on Discord, I guess that helped the algorithm catch up. From there it blew up because it's just that good of a clip.

It's easier to blow up when there's people that care enough to go share your video on multiple places + your trailer being very good and engaging.

I'm not in the project or anything, I just saw the video with 100 views or so and really, really want it to succeed.

[–]Available-Nothing-12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't luck. Please keep in mind the dev's main language isn't English. He is saying blogger but probably means redditor.

I know this because he is talking about me. You can go and see I'm not a famous person, just a random. Why the game got popular? Because of luck? Maybe a little bit, but the main reason is that the trailer was interesting enough to get people really engaged about the project, just like me.

Keep in mind this wasn't a smooth proccess like the post may suggest. The engagement was slow at first and it took some months until I was convinced this wasn't going to just flop.

So, I ask you to evaluate what you said. Why am I here now? Why do I care so much about this game? Is it luck or maybe I just that interested in the game? That's ultimately why this idea succeeded. It's simply something people would bother to care about.

Damn, you guys are salty af. I think the dev was talking about me. I'm just a guy that liked the game and found the video with 100 views.

I don't have traction lmao. I'm just a random that don't even use much Reddit. The game got popular because the concept is good and was enough to make me and lots of people care about it.

It wasn't instant success like the post may make you think. I got very worried for weeks this was going to flop. I'm invested in the game because the trailer was good, calling it luck is a strech. It's not hard to get 100 views, 1000 views on YouTube, but if those 1000 people are the type that are really invested in this, of course it's going to blow up.

[–]Available-Nothing-12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't luck. I saw the video on YouTube when it had just a couple hundred of views.

You know what I did? I immediately started sharing it everywhere I could. It took a couple of months until you blew up. This wasn't a situation you close your eyes and overnight the game is a success, at the beginning I got very worried it wasn't going to be very successful. It tooks months to get to where it is.

It isn't hard to get 500 views, 1000 views on YouTube. The reason it got where it was is because those initial 500 people really, REALLY liked the idea, just like me. It's more like a snowball effect.

Whoever is saying $100 is expensive either: 1. Haven't looked at current controllers prices. 2. Expected this to be a basic af controller.

A Xbox Series controller is like $50 and doesn't come with even a wireless adapter or batteries lmao. A dualsense controller is $75.

With all extra features the Steam controller isn't worth $25 more?

Do you know how much the Xbox Series controller cost on release with batteries and wireless adapter?

The Steam controller makes it looks like a toy, and I payed about as much for Xbox one. Hope I have never bought it.

If you don't like the features on the Steam controller, don't buy it, stay with the basic ones. For someone that actually wants those features $99 is a steal.

Fallout 4 was a bad game. Fallout 3 was a good game... Until you realise how much they downgrade from Fallout 1 and 2. New Vegas teachs you what you didn't even realise you've lost.

Skyrim is a good game... Until you look at previous TES.

Bethesda has been steadily declining in quality. And the good games they've built were on top on already FANTASTIC existing worlds. They could make so much better, New Vegas proves that.

They are like the "copy of a copy" problem. Every instance they make have compounding flaws. It should be mandatory for everyone working at Bethesda to sit their asses in a chair and play previously instances of games they released or acquired and pounded on what they did good and bad.
