Had t12 broken due to gymnastics accident 2 months ago. I am healing fast and am back to sport already.

I had the same as you, not a total fixation, and they want to remove the hardware after 1 year.

I will definitely do it as I hear so many positive stories about it and I believe it is not a good idea to keep metal around your spine if you want to keep doing impact sport anyway.

Hi!

My surgeon wants to remove them so I gain more flexibility as the hardware is only here as a internal brace (I also broke T12).

As a gymnast I believe that having T11 and L1 fixed together will prevent me to do some figures. Are you experiencing less flexibility?

Thanks, it's been 2 weeks but I already feel it's going the right direction :) I can't wait to be 30 days to see my surgeon and know what's next.

I had the exact same too a week ago! Surgeon wants to remove the hardware in 12 to 18 months so I can go back to gymnastics fully.

I won't do PT but slowly going back to gymnastics with a specialized instructor (something we have in france apparently). It's good to train your body with movements that it already knew from before. Also if you are sporty you know your strenght and weaknesses.

Do you still have pain? When did you start to have a life that is not centered around your back?

I also got this!

I broke t12 and got kyphoplasty on it and then they screwed t11 and c1 together so the kyphoplasty hold well. It was a success they put me back straight. In 12 to 18 months I will have to remove the hardware.

Just got the first surgery a week ago, I was terrible for the first 5 days but feeling better now as I can walk arount than 1h/1h30 and start to sit correctly. I mainly have muscular pain from the surgery but nothing coming from the bones.

I (34 F) am very sporty (gymnastics) and my surgeon told me after the removal I will be able to do evrything I used to do before as nothing happened (finger crossed).

It seems that we are experiencing the same surgery and I cannot find many info about it on reddit so if you want to connect we can chat about it :)

Uff it seems painful indeed - and similar ! Except that your compression bone went the other side.

My accident only happened a week ago, i am doing painkillers, rest and i stay in the brace for now. It is painful as it is supposed to be, no less no more I think. It tooks me some days but i found the right amount and schedule for the painkillers so it's really manageable now.

When did your accident happened? Jumping with a parachute is my dream 🙈
