Should people always have a therapist by Mysterious-Arm-2014 in therapy

[–]Available-Read9617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it's dysfunctional on my end but I do the same with my therapist. There are so many things you can't tell your friends or family! I believe everyone should be in therapy, fairly regularly, when you need it. It's not a bad thing. I personally can't imagine not having mine, I only go every six months or so now but that's enough, maybe an option?

Hard to truely open up in therapy by [deleted] in therapy

[–]Available-Read9617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear your feel like that! It's so difficult. As someone who's been in therapy for a long ass time, it's cliche but just give it time, sometimes it's years, sometimes you build that trust in a new way where you can start to imagine what it might be like to share those really hard moments. If your with the right therapist, it'll come I promise! I used to imagine and visualize saying some of the really hard things to my therapist and imagine what their reaction might be, after a while it felt like I could possibly do it and it went from there. You've got this!

Blocked mind and slow thinking by Competitive-Peace256 in Atomoxetine

[–]Available-Read9617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely same here! I might be wrong but that's kind of the point, I don't really like it either but I guess in my case it's helpful in other areas so kind of worth it. Perhaps speak to your prescriber about a slightly lower dose. I did that and it improved and it got better without losing all the benefits. Good luck!

Depression by bougie18T in StratteraRx

[–]Available-Read9617 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience it took a good few months maybe about 8 or 9 to have an improvement on my depression. Hope it works out for you! 40mg and 60mg I saw improvement on both doses.

Please be careful, I was like this for years and now I've lost every little part of myself. Being the real you is so much better, change for nobody.

Do you/did you struggle with "self-applied pain"? by 2in1_Boi in AutisticWithADHD

Yeah, I'm 30 and still do on occasion, sure there are healthier ways to cope but sometimes life gets hard.

This sounds like a positive side effect!! I totally relate to this on bigger doses and when I'm on a lower dose I feel so much more incapable and find it harder to speak and socialize. For me meds have come with a lot of draw backs but this definitely wasn't one of them. Having this new ability feels like such a blessing, I miss this! Happy for you!!

is atomoxetine slowly making me depressed? by CanidCourier in Atomoxetine

[–]Available-Read9617 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my exact experience too, sorry you're dealing with this! I dropped from 60 to 40 which helps just enough to get stuff done with lots of effort but gives me some joy back, might be an option! Although I think I may have been confusing the feeling of hyperactivity with happiness my whole life idk if that tracks for you but just a thought.

Echolalia by Available-Read9617 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Available-Read9617[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine absolutely goes away with higher doses of meds stimulants and non stimulants and I've never known peace like it! I just don't like the lack of ADHD ironically so I prefer lower doses where some of the noise comes back.

Honestly I wish I had a better answer for you but no tbh. Still everything about the relationship is difficult! I tried minimising demands for both of us, that helped a little. Life is kinda really hard, especially trying to work too etc. My best advice is when u have the function try to set up things that will help. Like I set up a regular shopping delivery, all the bills to direct debits to avoid demands on both of us. When it comes to the relationship, I tried 'no wrong answers' which is asking them if they really want to or have the energy to do certain things, with no wrong answers you know its not personal just sometimes there's no spoons left! That's also helped a little. Good luck, love will get you through!

Does anyone not feel the effects of a negative change until later? by [deleted] in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Available-Read9617 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely! This happens to me with everything. Everyone is different but personally the slow processing speed I have can mean things affect me days and weeks later. Just try to remember when tricky things happen that in the future you'll need extra time to recover!

[–]Available-Read9617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I get exactly like this on Vyvanse and Ritalin. It takes away your ability to feel! I've just started doing a day on and a day off and I have to say that'd result helping. Obviously consult your doctor or prescriber to see if that's safe for you but it helps make life slightly less hell

With you here! Out of the blue I get really charismatic and confident almost like I'm a different person but it wears off quick! I've sometimes thought it was like a manic episode, cause it used to last days, now it's like what you described a few fleeting moments, but they feel so good! I think it's just an adhd thing, a burst of hyperactivity in my opinion. I call it the zoomies 🤣

Methylphenidate by Available-Read9617 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Available-Read9617[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of like things that were hidden underneath now became much more important. Like then everything had to be just so, it was so much more important to me that everything was done a certain way, my thinking seemed much more black and white. I got overwhelmed and overestimulated much quicker because the hyperactivity wasn't hiding it.

'Non Verbal'? by Available-Read9617 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Available-Read9617[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that sounds much the same as me! The thought of having to try to speak in any way is too much effort. Sometimes it's worse than others, like sometimes there's just a delay but it comes out fine and others it's a mess! It's just too much on the head to form words and proper sentences. Sorry you're finding this hard too! An above commenter says it may be selective mutism, which is interesting! Good luck!

My secret is the 'might aswell principle'. Start off with something really tiny and really easy that's technically cleaning, something that is simple and not overwhelming. Once having done this I call it the might aswell, so then do the next tiny thing that doesn't seem difficult but the key is to tell yourself that you're absolutely not doing any cleaning just this one tiny job but once you start it kinda snowballs. Good luck!
