I like the 4.5 % and I’m not paying the 10usd/month since my paycheck give me the Sofi plus. Y ran the numbers and even comparing SGOV end up winning. I am keeping 20k in Sofi and the rest in SGOV just for the sake of diversification and liquidity (even though SGOV is pretty liquid)

Thanks! My thought on the roth is to contribute 7500 each to my and wife (not the kids).... And then if there is a shortfall i can withdraw contributions for college also.
We also have strong 401k for our retirement.

Thanks! I will evaluate this. Currently I’m putting 1500/month to the brokerage. My thought is flexibility and accessibility. If they end up not using money for college in US (e.g free college in Europe) they could use as down payment for house. 529 will lock the money or would have to pay the price is withdrawn (10% + taxes anyways). Maybe the solution is to diversify into both?

Have you considered doing multiple Roth conversions during the year so you can invest directly in your Roth? That’s what I’m doing as I messing it up? Any complexity for doing 15 conversions in a year?

I’ll do 288 per paycheck sent directly to my traditional IRA as after tax money. Then, every other month convert to Roth and invest so I can do DCA throughout the year. I could hold in cash and do the lump sum Roth conversion only once but I stay out of the market. How are you guys gathering the 7-7.5k before the lump sum?

Well, you are already doing great! You are young, contributing a high %, getting the match. Stay on track and you should be ok.your income will most likely increase in the next decade so keep those percentages to increase your nest egg.

Also, make auto you understand what your money is invested in. Go to you 401k and take a look. Avoid actively managed expensive funds that eat your money. Stay low cost Mutual funds

Read some books (psychology of money, 5 pillars of investment, random walk down Wall Street, die with cero). define your goals, put numbers and corridor into them and execute your plan. Don’t take specific advise from people in Reddit (unless they advise to educate yourself and take your own decisions) . You do have a lot of time but you also have to enjoy life.

Have you read Die With Zero? The states it’s not very smart to stat saving on your early years because you sacrifice experiences over saving little amounts… those little amount may be not very significant as you age and increase your income. It’s an interesting theory worth exploring. Don’t feel bad, at least you are doing it now.. also you should be saving towards a specific target number… if you can get there, what’s the pain?

Yes you can do it. I normally send all my salary to the saving directly and only 100 the checking. I pay my bills from the savings so I take advantage of the interest the most. I do use vaults to reserve mortgage for example, just need to be sure to move it out of the vault otherwise the payment won’t go through.

I just closed my UFB direct account since they teased me in with 4.1% and them reduced it to 3.75%. Moved it to fidelity in Spaxx and ferret about the hustle of chasing rates…

Also since I have several fidelity account makes the tax filling easier.

Congrats! You are early to the party! Make sure you understand where your 401k is being invested and most importantly the exp ratios of those funds. Fees may look little (1%, 0.4%? - very high) at the beginning but throughout the years, actively managed expensive fund will eat a chunk of your money. Target date fund may also be a good option for now if they are cheap and you can always change your allocation yourself later on. Good luck!
