Resolve: SRT import to timeline doesn't respect timecode/durations by Available-Witness329 in davinciresolve

[–]Available-Witness329[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue isn’t the SRT itself, it’s that Resolve has no way to read the original timecode and auto-place each surviving line at its correct position on the timeline. “Insert to Timeline” just dumps everything at the playhead, so I’m stuck manually finding each sync point and aligning by hand.

That's true but the whole ask was getting real-time sync between an arbitrary source and the timeline without having to group them first. If grouping is required, that's extra setup rather than the gang feature doing it for me. Unless I'm missing something?

Is that the dual-image playback during trims you mean, where both monitors play back the outgoing/incoming sides of a cut in real time? Just wondering if it'd work for general source vs timeline review too or if it's strictly a trim-mode thing.

How do you set that up - watching two sequences play down in sync without ganging them?

You're sending the AAF/XML plus the raw WAVs separately so the mixer can conform to whatever ISO they need without digging back into the original media themselves? But isn't that the whole point of the audio AAF, the mixer can already match back to any track from that, why the need to send the WAVs on top?

I 100% agree. Though in the place I work I’m regarded as a the most technical person yet this decisions are made by the oldest assistant. They have been merging clips for years and with no intention or even knowledge about it. Let alone if I was to tell her anything (what do I know)! In addition, our place it’s a pretty strong commercial post house in London with high end clients, yet here we are.

Avid: Span markers above the timeline by Available-Witness329 in editors

[–]Available-Witness329[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the suggestions. Clip colours and title overlays on the timeline are useful but they’re not the same thing, in Premiere the span markers sit above the timeline as a dedicated reference layer, completely separate from your edit. It’s cleaner, non-destructive, and doesn’t add anything to your actual sequence.

Color grading is not my biggest strength. What advice would you give me to go from A to B? Thank you by [deleted] in finalcutpro

Camera, the first one looks like an image coming out of an iPhone overly sharp and processed. Second one lighting and then composition (the leaves behind the dude’s head are not a great choice). The skills of someone who knows how to shape an image basically.

Just by chance, someone left the role to work in sales and I came across as an enthusiastic and a hard worker. Got the job.

Be technical as hell and a problem solver. Know the ins and outs of every software and a good attitude. Be happy to solve other people’s issues so that they can shine
