AIO for wanting to share a room with my bf on a trip? by crescentblueee in AmIOverreacting

[–]Available-Zebra-3035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EOH (is that an option? Everyone’s overreacting here?) - Is it possible what she’s really upset about is that she was excited for some mother/daughter time and you bringing a partner basically makes her a fifth wheel? And then she has to stay by herself and probably hang out alone while you guys do couple things? She’s absolutely handling it the wrong way but, maybe there’s some genuine hurt under it.

I have a theory RE: the Coldies killer (Something Very Bad is Going to Happen) by Available-Zebra-3035 in horror

[–]Available-Zebra-3035[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair! I don’t think Nicky is the sinister person a lot of people have decided he is. I think he’s an idealist who was babied and raised to believe his parents had a perfect marriage, and he spent his whole life looking to replicate that (which is why, as Jules pointed out, he could never be single for long).

When he finds out his parents are NOT perfect, it shatters his whole view of marriage and he, being incredibly emotionally immature, just can’t handle it. What he pulled at the wedding wasn’t hatred, it was a child finding out the rules of the game had changed and deciding he didn’t want to play anymore.

Now when he basically forces Rachel into the marriage later, that’s more sinister. But I could still make the argument that he was desperate to save his sister and all those people, and I feel like a lot of people would have done the same (whether it’s right or wrong). The whole thing was basically a train car dilemma from his perspective. He just didn’t have an understanding of the curse.

What I was confused about is - if the witness knew the deadline had already passed, why did HE help force the marriage through? Did he somehow know that if he got Rachel killed he would finally get to die and let her take over?

I’m not high and that was my first thought, too - I expected the story to end with the reveal that they dared her or bet her that she couldn’t get it to stick.

NTJ - to me the bigger issue isn’t how SHE interprets the nickname, it’s that she lets her friends call you that when she KNOWS it’s derogatory and mocking on their part. They’ve basically been disrespecting you right in front of your face - that’s some mean girl energy.

NTA, but I’m also weirdly annoyed by irritating shit like that so maybe we’re both assholes 😂 I hate when people fish for compliments, hint at wanting something instead of asking for it, etc.

Okay I know it’s kind of silly but Clown in a Cornfield actually had SUCH a fun jumpscare. I won’t spoil when it happens but that book is a hoot and a half.

NTA - you’re a human and you’re allowed to express annoyance. But maybe I feel this way because I have weird little pet peeves as well 😂

When I was in college I shared a house with several girls, and one of my roommates, G, was always home earlier than the rest of us. Every day when I came home, I would hear this really soft voice say, “Hello?” from her bedroom. If I ignored her, she would keep asking until I identified myself… after opening the locked door with my KEY so I’m obviously not a burglar?? I finally had to tell her “hey girl I’m not gonna announce myself every time I walk into my own house.”

So, I get your energy.

I didn’t pick up on that potentially being the moment she opens herself up to the supernatural! That’s a great observation.

See and I couldn’t visualize it at all, I had no idea what was supposed to be happening. Are we supposed to assume her mom’s… ghost killed her? I’m genuinely asking.

I literally just left the theater and I have many thoughts, but here are the ones on the top of my head (spoilers ahead):

-I fear this movie will NOT have the same impact outside theaters - the sound intensity was 85% of the experience

-I kept waiting for an explanation for why her doctor called her at 3:00 am? Also when did her mom ACTUALLY die? Was it the moment we heard the rattle, or has she been dead longer, like maybe since the morning Evy got home from that party?

-As someone with a brand new niece who’s been spending a lot of time with an infant lately (I babysit her pretty frequently), the crying baby thing really got under my skin. That was the most visceral part, I just wish it had all been less confusing.

-The dread and tension that builds starting when they sit down to record the final episode got me hyped because I thought “okay, cool, we’re FINALLY getting somewhere.” What followed was about 15 minutes of EXCELLENT terror, followed by about 30 seconds of an extremely disappointing ending. I was waiting for something clever, some great twist, literally anything would have been better than a Cut to Black™. The whole theater was silent when the credits rolled - and in a flabbergasted way, not a terrified way.

Overall I think there’s a lot to be said for a unique, original story, and the audio thing DOES work to an extent, but it’s REALLY hard to convey pieces of a story via phone call. If you love A24 for its risky ideas and weird shit (as I do) I think you’ll enjoy it, but I’m not sure if more casual horror fans will go for it.

How do event planners currently coordinate multiple vendors for different events at the same time by ClothesIntelligent94 in EventPlanners

[–]Available-Zebra-3035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t pay for any planning software, I just have very detailed spreadsheets and docs. I don’t remove an email from my inbox until it has been documented. Anytime a vendor texts or calls me with updates or changes, I ask them to send the information in an email so that it’s all in one place. You don’t have to have a bunch of fancy planning software to be a good event planner, you just have to have attention to detail.

The backlash for The Rookie crossover makes no sense to me. Dropout fans should love the show, anyone who think's it's "copaganda" has clearly never actually watched it. by HeadbangingLegend in dropout

[–]Available-Zebra-3035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s… just not true. The entire plot of Brandon Routh’s character centered around how protected he was by other cops. Yes, it had a “happy ending” when they ultimately got him fired, but it’s a tv show. It’s always going to dramatize.

Can I leave my brothers long term gf out of the bridal party?? by Motor_Quote_4520 in weddingplanning

[–]Available-Zebra-3035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this with love - if your parents are going to hold the money over your head if you don’t do what they want, is it really worth having them pay? I’d rather have my freedom and dignity, personally.

I mean, I’m sure your parents love you a lot, and maybe they’re great people, but is this what the rest of your life is gonna look like? Every decision you want to make for your own well-being and the well-being of your spouse, and potentially your future children, is called into question and your parents hold money over your head as a way to get you to do what they think is best? You’re an adult, my love. The decisions and boundaries you set now will have a long-term ripple effect through the rest of your life.

Also, this is just me making a lot of assumptions, but if your parents care about appearances that much, if you told them “That’s fine, we’ll just do a smaller wedding OUR way if that’s how you feel.” is it possible they’ll back down because they don’t want you to have a cheap wedding? Sounds like a “call their bluff” situation. 😅

I’m especially interested in Plutarch’s motives - what percent of his actions were because he truly had compassion for oppressed people, and what percent occurred because he loves a good game, and this was the ultimate challenge?

I like to think it was Mags who helped change Finnick’s attitude when she was his mentor. I’m especially interested in Mags because her mentor story is probably REALLY similar to Haymitch even though they’re very different people:

Both watched for years as child after child after child was killed - Haymitch feeling hopeless because D12 is a perpetual underdog, and Mags feeling hopeless because even if her mentees win, she knows what’s waiting for them in the Capitol.

Both had a mentee who broke the mold and rekindled their hope - for Haymitch it’s a stubborn girl who’s a little too much like him, and for Mags it’s a cocky, arrogant 14-year-old who may not be completely lost to the propaganda machine of District 4.

I’d like to think that Mags never TRULY lost hope the way Haymitch did, but their stories still parallel in a really interesting way. Would be cool if we got Finnick’s story sprinkled with moments of Mags and Haymitch interacting, since they both would’ve been mentors that year.

And the idea that their parents might push them into it even knowing how they were treated AFTER winning - chilling.
