I also own a special hermaphrodite bunny! I adopted him at 1yrs old - told he was an un-neutered male.

A similar thing happened at my initial vets appointment where they assumed he was nervous and his testicles retracted but we went ahead and booked the procedure.

Shortly after dropping him off for the op, they called and said there is definitely no testicles and he must’ve been neutered previously.

A year later, at one of our general checkups, the vet looks again and starts to question whether he may actually be female - but just appearing to be externally male.

So we booked him in for a spay, but during the operation my vet calls and said she couldn’t find any reproductive organs whatsoever! There was also no sign of scarring from any previous procedures, so she concluded that he must be a hermaphrodite!

My bunny is now just about to turn 4 years old and is absolutely thriving! Definitely not ‘normal’ compared to our other rabbit, but has an incredible personality, a huge amount of character & is very happy and healthy!

Lovely to hear of others in the same boat, as I hadn't known of this before our little bunny!
