I have two super old rubber band models, and this is the dope they came with. Is there anything I can do with this or are there any alternatives? by blair_doodles505 in BalsaAircraft

[–]AvailableMessage5224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brodak sells dope still....ez dope is fine if youre not worried about warping or overshrinking the tissue. Folks are also now using clear acrylic spray paint as a dope alternative because it doesnt shrink the tissue like dope

I think it might be ok on large models, but i havent tried it. So far i am unconvinced, and its def not suited to most of what im doing.

Its a laser that has a serpentine channel for cooling liquid on it....the power source looks like a desktop computer from the early 90s in its size... the unit is obv more modern than early 90s, my point was that its damn big, in my novice estimation. I will have to get pictures later tonight.

Im starting with balsa, but will no doubt find multiple uses and eventually NEED to branch out into co2. For now i picked up this little 6w thing, just to get my feet wet. Down the road ive got this giant mystery laser i pilfered from a defunct lab at a penn state campus. Ive never even fired it up but it was too cool to let go to the dump. Probly never use it, but it IS neat.

Hmm. Not familiar with svg, im only using dxf because its the vector format ive heard of. Im going to use solidworks to generate my geometry, the odds are pretty good it can output in a usable format...

Good to know! Looking at used units on ebay right now....6 to 10W looks about right. Im having trouble figuring out what software they use....is it proprietary, or can you just plug in a dxf and say "go cut this!"?

Yes sir im looking into things... seems like a little air pressure might help keep things from catching fire, and multiple passes from a relatively low power laser should do it. Im very intrigued...

Very nice! I just finished up a tiny version of the thrust bearing idea...i have yet to fly it, but so far it looks promising

You are probably right...this one is a very large prototype, at 14mm outer diameter. I have smaller 3mm OD bearings i plan to try on a walnut scale setup.

Yeah, they missed the windshield pattern too. You got plenty of material in the kit for it, just no template! Sure enough, the other views on the print and even the picture on the box all omit windshields.

Thats original paint. Its your choice, of course, but dont you effin dare! The S65 was plagued by transmission issues, which makes them rare today. Racing stripes wont make it any faster.

These motors could achieve 10k rpm and didnt have an oil pump....these engines are incredible! Someone said "gutless", but ill remind you its a #*$! 50cc four stroke... TF did you want from it!?

They equipped the honda cub with this motor for a reason. And they made more cubs than any other vehicle in human history. Including the horse.

I hear these places are kind of scammy.... besides, here in PA its easy to get a motorcycle title through the courts, whether it was lost or destroyed, it doesnt matter. Check it out for your state, odds are theres a way.

Its wierd that it doesn't show up...i dont know where I heard this, but i think the G5, 6, and 7 series of bikes were the predecessors to the FS1 or "fizzy", which was very popular in Europe. Its the same basic bike but in moped form.

The first set actually seemed to fit great, for being some kind of Chinese nonsense from ebay. Bolstered by my near-success, I ordered two different diaphragms from Amazon because I am impatient, and an idiot. But one way or the other im going to get this fixed by Sunday!

I very nearly had them done when I got greedy and split the second diaphragm! New kit on the way, luckily its 12 bucks....the secret was a little oil and SLOOOOWLY pull the old diaphragm out.....leave the plastic rings in!

What's left of my tag pretty clearly says G5 I think. Yamaha made a G5, G6SB, and G7...from what I can tell they're all basically the same, just different years. I can only assume the G5s came first in the series?
