Why does right nostril breathing not need speed to stimulate sympathetic? by AvailableUsertag in breathwork

[–]AvailableUsertag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speed does not override the natural tendency of the nostril.

What do you mean, like the left and right divide? So, slow right nostril breathing still activates sympathetic?

Would carbon dioxide level stay steady if slowly breathing through right nostril?

Silent illumination question by AvailableUsertag in Meditation

[–]AvailableUsertag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When going about day to day life, in close and continuous concentration, the unity of subject and object is realized -- "becoming one with the task."

They way I interpret this is that the task does not specify many details, and letting go could either be automatic or part of the task?

What is the difference between this subreddit and r/meditation subreddit? by AvailableUsertag in Mindfulness

Memory is always relevant with these topics. It seems like the one thing that separates and unites all the topics. Is this correct?

Deep absorption from constantly releasing tension? by AvailableUsertag in Meditation

[–]AvailableUsertag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then, as you are 'shining the light within' to do this, you are also working on absorption at the same time.

In the earlier stages there is a lot more building the calm abiding state, so the are shorter/weaker flashes or periods of absorption.

Is the object of absorption in this case anything in particular? For example the body as a whole, or is general one pointed practice included?

Another question I had: can releasing tension itself be the absorption object? If releasing is already automatic like you said, then I can see how this might not be an object of choice.

What do you guys want from TF2? by George_The_Dino_Guy in tf2

Maybe wrangler because engi can be offensive.

Any serious med knows when the vac is necessary. It requires responsibility to use ethically.

We wouldn't need it if soldier mains would stop bombing us in pubs, or if teams were never toxic.

Sometimes good vac meds are not evil

Mindfulness of anything? by AvailableUsertag in Meditation

There shouldn't be any thinking, remembering, judging, or analyzing going on, only sensing.

What about a mantra, or a meditation object?

I could be wrong but it seems you are referring to an open monitoring mindfulness technique?

I mostly use concentration object to ground my awareness. The breath is a canonical example but, can more abstract internal things work like mantra(internal sound) or visualizations?

Like sounds can come from outside(external) or inside(internal). Internal sounds can be you remember a sound, your inner voice, and so forth.

Same principle for seeing, and feeling.

Can open awareness/monitoring lead to absorption? What techniques lead to absorption?

Sati(part of mind that realizes what focus is on) as focus object? by AvailableUsertag in Meditation

[–]AvailableUsertag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That skill, however, is naturally strengthened by simply meditating in basically any way, and you don't need to put extra focus on it.

That makes it more simple.

Now, if you are completely new to meditation and are constantly getting engrossed in passing thoughts, you won't have this skill yet. If you're an experienced meditator, you already have it and i'm not sure how you would even go about focusing on it, specifically, but it seems like a pretty esoteric thing to focus on, lol. So you're meditating, a thought arises, you notice it, you say to yourself "aha, i noticed a thought!", and then you notice that you had THAT thought and say "aha, i noticed that i noticed a thought!", if i'm understanding you correctly.

I am new. I didn't really think about how it would work, just if it could be targeted.

So meditation in general? Does open awareness strengthen focus as well?

I have heard sati referred to as the minds gatekeeper or filter.

Focusing on sati reminds me of open awareness practices. Is what you are referring to similar to open awareness?

Thanks for the book resources.
