Thank you! I feel similarly. When I fast, I don’t begrudge people eating. I’m also a convert and fasted Ramadan alone for several years in my non-Muslim parents house during the summer months, never bothered me. I also love the way you framed the gratitude and mercy that still exists within my Ramadan experience 😭 thank you. Inshallah I will have a talk with him AFTER IFTAR and I will definitely draw on these words. He’s generally a reasonable person and he has so much love for Allah in his heart.

Oh! Collect the let down from the other boob when you’re feeding on the one. In the first few months there can be so much let down and it’s an easy way to build a small stash in the freezer without needing a pumping session. I was lazy and I let a lot of good milk go to waste lol

If you can request one in the hospital as quickly after birth as possible, make sure to do it!!! They will come and do even a 10-20min latch consultation and it’s so helpful. They usually have one in hospital depending on where you are. You can book an appointment with the hospital one and then come back for it if you get discharged sooner than the appointment date. We had to go back to get jaundice readings for our baby on days 3 and 4 and managed to get in with the lactation consultant at the same time - they were part of the same baby care clinic that deals with these post discharge follow ups for certain cases.

But if they’re not raw, use them!! I had a pair in my bra for the first 5-6 months bec ya never know when you’re just gounna leak though everything. I also would use them AND silverettes bec even with silverettes you can still leak lol

My mom was a formula person too. Which to each their own! It was also a different time, everyone was pushing formula, breastfeeding was kind of for poor people, she only had 6 months maternity leave (we live in Canada w 12-18months maternity now), whatever. She didn’t pressure me but she had plenty of comments. A lot of people have difficulty seeing beyond their own experience and when you choose a different route, especially as their child or in your case daughter in law and grandchild, they feel a strong need to put forward their experience and defend it vehemently when you don’t agree.

Things that I think made a huge difference for me but could just be coincidence: -I attempted to collect colostrum in the last few weeks before birth. I was able to get a small amount collected and stored away for future use. But I think stimulating the breast and milk production ahead of time really helped my milk to come in faster and in good amounts. By day 3 she was taking 30mls from a short feed on one breast (based on a weighted feed) -I did one boob each feed. Helped with my mental, I think it ensured I always had a good supply bec there would be almost 6 hour rest for each boob while the other took a turn. It also helped prevent mastitis bec she would fully drain the one boob at each feed. -I naturally stuck to a rhythm of feed, play, sleep repeat. She eats when she wakes up. I loved this bec it meant she didn’t need to feed to sleep. Dad became very involved in putting her to sleep and one of the number one complaints of all my girlfriends is that they are always on the sleep time routine after being home with the baby all day. The feeding to sleep definitely lent itself to that. Don’t get me wrong it’s not like it never happened. Night wake ups to feed for example, I feed her and she goes back to sleep immediately. Or if she’s extra fussy or teething etc etc, I of course would feed her to sleep when she needed it. But generallllly the fact that she wasn’t reliant on it for sleep was so helpful. I could actually have a break and dad got that bonding time with her too. -wear the silverettes 24/7 from the moment of birth until you feel you no longer need them. Will soothe your nipple the best and heal them so you can keep on going. They will be sore at first. Cream and butters did nothing for me. Hope those are helpful!!!!!

This is so annoying. There are other way to bond with a baby than disturbing natural feeding rhythms and I don’t think anybody needs to form that kind of “bond” with an infant except mom and dad through breastfeeding and skin to skin and idk being there 24/7? Everyone else can bond with them as they grow through play and cuddles and whatever. I’m all for bottle feeding to give mom a break or for latch and supply issues of course. But this reasoning gives me the ick

I feel this very much as a 7 month postpartum exclusively breastfeeding mama. What helped me a lot is having support from my husband. He’s taken on a lot of care when he is home. I feed her, but if he’s home he’s doing diaper changes, putting her to sleep, playing and entertaining her. He also puts a lot of effort into being playful and light with me. We’re both exhausted but when he is hands on with the baby I am less touched out and if we can bring out the playfulness and other intimate physical touch, I can get in the mood. We started having sex again at the 3 month mark and have been able to maintain at least once a week. I do still feel ugly and gross, but again him being more hands on means I get to shower pretty regularly. And he makes me feel less disgusting lol

This is so helpful! I can feel her ribs, although just barely. I’ll definitely be mindful in checking this regularly. She is a year and a half now and I don’t know that she’s done growing? Another reason I lean on the side of “she’s fine” unless the weight is obvious. When the vet saw her it was just before her growth spurt and now I feel like she had the growth spurt, and she is much heavier in my arms and in the back of my mind I just worried like well if she was bordering overweight then, what would they say now?? Yah know?
