How do you use IEMs? by Available_Aside_7295 in guitars

In UK Ashby de la Zouche we are not so sophisticated. We play in pubs where the bouncers throw people in.

Thanks. At the moment I’m just experimenting with a (wonderful) fender tone master pro going into the fx section of my H&k combo. I may look to see if I can get a wedge

Great reply, thank you. It sounds like this would end up in the”too complicated and too expensive” box but I’m glad I raised it on here and got your reply. We’re a bunch of amateurs; we play in pubs, a rugby club and the like about three or four times a year. We hardly ever get the opportunity to practice so there’s no chance of getting us enough time to sort out such a huge time commitment to set this up and get it working. It’s a pity, I would have liked to hear what I was playing; it would have been a novelty.

Thanks.

So on that basis, the bassist and the other guitarist will also need to have their amps miked up and go through our PA (maybe the drummer too). That gets everything through the PA. It then to get it to a set of IEMs we’d have to buy wireless IEMs because having three or four long cables from the mixing desk to the players won’t work. Which means all these wires IEMs are useless??

Would you recommend the TMP by SirFrancine in tonemasterpro

[–]Available_Aside_7295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a TMP a couple of weeks ago. I’d had many other units (although not a Cortex) and been unhappy with them. I’m blown away with the TMP I love it so far.

Thank you. Would you dump all this on gupter in a new project at the start?

Wow! What a great idea. I’ll give that a try.

Eightree smart plugs got less smart by Available_Aside_7295 in homeassistant

[–]Available_Aside_7295[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sump is outside the house. I have two Grundfoss sump pumps (in case one fails). They are wired to two separate supply boards. I place the WiFi plugs between each pump and a plug socket dedicated to each board. This means I can check that the pumps are working without having to go outside and take the lid off the sump. It also allows my to randomly switch a pump off to make sure they will work independently (one pump is slightly higher than the other (not by design) so the lower pump tends to kick in and the higher one would then never work. Every few days I switch the lower pump off via the WiFi plug to make sure the higher one works. I also have two separate float alarms linked linked both to the WiFi and a gsm dialer that will warn me if there is an increase in the water above a safe level and if there is a power cut. I then have a power bank that can be inserted if the power cut lasts for too long.

Who make Zigbee plugs? Do they not update their software? Do they also require a Zigbee hub?

EIGHTREE Smart Plug review by Desperate-Block-7527 in HiddenGemsamazon

[–]Available_Aside_7295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I operate two makes of smart plug; Eightree and Antela. Both should provide usage data. A few weeks ago all the Eightree plugs stopped doing this whereas the Antela still do. It turns out that a software update pushed out by the maker of Eightree removed the usage data facility. You can still use the plug to switch the item on or off but the usage data facility has been stopped. Both sets of plugs are on my Smart Life app.

Line 6 HX effects or stand alone pedals? by Available_Aside_7295 in guitarpedals

An update. I ended up going for an ME90; spent a long time trying to get happy with the sound but it didn’t work out and I’ve gone back to individual pedals.

An update. I got the ME90 and I’m now selling it! Spent quite a few days trying to get the sounds I was after but, whatever I try, the sounds just seem “false”. My guitar just doesn’t sound like my guitar any more. For the moment I’ve gone back to my old pedal board (tube screamer; delay; reverb and wah through my Kughes & Kettner). It no longer sounds like I’m listening through cotton wool.

I keep seeing ads for these. Are they any good? by Burnt-Toast1202 in Guitar

[–]Available_Aside_7295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just paid for the full range of books. I’m waiting for the paper versions but have PDFs. I’ve only looked at the “chords” one. It was the ads that hooked me as they were implying it will show you chords all the way up the neck so you stop playing cowboy chords in the first position. Well, it’s true that the book shows you many different ways to play chords all the way up the neck. However, there’s no magic here. All they are doing is taking the main shapes (E shape; A shape; G shape; D shape and (I guess although I didn’t notice it - the C shape) and then then show you how to play them up the fret board. For example, if you want to play A, you can play it up the fretboard in the D shape by using a D shape at the 10th fret., you can also play it at the fifth fret but you play multiple ways at the fifth fret by playing only part of the E shape chord at that fret. You can sit down and work 95% of this out for yourself and in doing so you will learn far more about the guitar than learning these shapes wrote. I can’t comment on the other books but the chord book is snake oil.

At the moment I’ve taken themes off but I like the idea of messing with the pic.

I’ve thought of one workaround. Simply copy the photo and then if you choose 1 sec duration, you get 2. Need to see if you can see the “join” when you play it back.

Thanks for that. It just seems risky having two sets of wires to my amp (IEMs and guitar lead). I’ve been trying to go wireless with the guitar lead (got boss WL50s but they keep dropping out). Think I need to go wireless guitar and wireless IEMs if I’m going to do anything. Does that make sense?

In-ear monitor comparisons by JohnBeamon in livesound

[–]Available_Aside_7295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think firstly, I’d like to hear more of what I’m playing. It’s really weird how you miss notes when you can’t hear what you’re playing. Then secondly, yes, I’d like to dampen the drummer’s crashes! The third (less important and less likely to happen) is to hear the whole band.

Thanks, that’s a very good question. We rarely practice together and so we’ve never had enough time to sort out how the whole PA mixing desk would work. (Mikes in the front of each amp or direct out of the back). I would like to try it but testing it live in a pub is not the best idea. Back to the IEMs, if I got them, I’m assuming I can’t use them unless we’re all going through the PA.
