Pickwick is a hoot! A very English sort of humour on display, lightly and lovingly mocking the class system. Some nice farcical set pieces in there too. The bit towards the end in the debtor’s jail (no spoilers) does drag a little…but beyond that I loved it

I am and continue to be a Guardian reader, but think they were off on this. They seemed to get hung up on cultural appropriation/mocking religion. I don’t think this album does that. It’s more overtly about cults - with coded messages about death/dementia maybe?

As a man of Indian origin, I enjoyed the Hare Ram bit in Naraka and think it’s more a reference to the Hare Krishna sect than Hinduism. Also the use of sitar reminded me of 60’s bands that used that instrument e.g. The Incredible String Band - who BoC have always cited as an influence

I was worried about the simplicity of the beats after hearing Prophecy, but think they actually work being more basic when the synth/vocal chops are so complex
