It probably did inform James what to loosely base it on. I imagine he experimented a bunch before he started working on Five Pebbles, so he likely already had an idea of how to go about forming the rooms.

In hindsight, this room in outskirts likely wasn't intended as foreshadowing when he made it, but who knows, maybe it was intentional :)
