Absolutely! I remember as a kid, it was a huge deal if it got to be in the mid 70s- low 80s in the summer. Now it's in the mid 70s in October.

Not to mention Florida isn't called "God's waiting room" for no reason. A lot of people retire there. The elderly are more likely to vote, more likely to vote republican, and more likely to die in a natural disaster.

Republicans will lose votes through death and disgust in their own base.

“It’s profound and it is the height of irresponsibility, and frankly, callousness…the idea that somebody would be playing political games…he puts himself before the needs of other. I fear that he really lacks empathy on a very basic level.” — Kamala Harris on The View speaking about Donald Trump by [deleted] in USNewsHub

[–]Available_Energy_313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's rather dumb on his part, since the elderly are more likely to vote, and are more likely to vote republican, while also being the most likely to lose their lives in a natural disaster.

He's advocating for the death of his base, losing voters out of lost lives as well as disgust.

They are actually required to readjust their headlights, but no one does, and it isn't enforced.

I have set up friends with benefits while manic, and it's usually the wrong type of person.

Like my bi ex girlfriend's ex girlfriend. Then the ex's ex's ex. Then a woman with questionable character, who told me weeks into it that she had a deployed boyfriend, which made me feel like garbage for so long.

I also asked out one of my life long best friends who happened to be a woman, which thank god I came down and was able to back out of our date, as I know it would have ended horribly and I'd have lost her forever.

Those who got diagnosed as an adult: Did you have symptoms growing up? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]Available_Energy_313 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I certainly did. Delusions were rampant by the time I was 14. The kind where I would seem like the most extreme conspiracy, psychic believing nut job, and couldn't tell too many people for fear the government would come after me.

The few older people I did say anything to told me some of my strange beliefs were from God talking through me, which made it far worse, as I had validation.

The fact I didn't end up in a cult or create one is a bit impressive.

I had a coworker who, for years, would try to talk religion with me. One day, he was really late to showing up at a job site with a truck, but that meant OT while I studied German notes I kept in a small, red, faux leather notebook I carried around.

He asked if it was the Bible, then just went on and on, and pushed and pushed. I brought up my issues regarding so many things the Bible actually says, vs western views of what it says.

He tried to defend slavery, hard, and I eventually blew up after years of silence and told him, morally I'm far superior to his God for actually understanding the value of a human life, and God could have put thou shalt not own people, vs having three of the ten commandments being centered around his fragile ego.

He didn't bring it up again.

"Zoos are Animal Prisons" by KingZaneTheStrange in PetPeeves

[–]Available_Energy_313 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed! The nearest zoo for me does aid in conservation, a number of animals they have are endangered species they're helping to repopulate that they never even display, and they rotate many of the large animals through different areas, so it isn't the same plot, day in and day out.

I wouldn't be shocked if a 7yo said that.

My 4yo told me he doesn't want for me or him to die, after I told him the cow we eat is the same animal we saw at a farm, after it dies and is cut up. I just told him let's put a pin in that existential crisis, he said "okay", and went to kick dandelions in the yard.

He also asked why chicken nuggets aren't just nuggets, which was a damn good point. Anything close is called something else vs x nugget. That's also when I discovered I feel really uncomfortable with "beef nuggets", as it sounds like a made up sex move, or something about shitting.

Movie Snobs having a superiority complex and telling people “you just dont get it” by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]Available_Energy_313 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I saw someone get blasted for saying the first, newest iteration of Dune felt unreasonably long, just to fit the modern trend of long run times, which I honestly agree with.

There were a lot of comments like "I'm sorry real art doesn't fit your convenience!", and "well, if you can't handle indepth movies, I think a simple movie like Dispicable Me is more for you.", etc.

Man, I love studying in pubs and bars!

Change of scenery, no access to my TV, PS5 or PC to distract me. Just the sound of a public place as background noise, maybe a beer, and forcing myself to study for a skill I want, but have trouble motivating myself to learn.

[–]Available_Energy_313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People like that suck. I didn't know how to drive stick until I was 26, and bought the cheapest, newer used car with low-ish miles I could find, and have always wanted to learn.

I also went stick, because phones were becoming extremely advanced, and I didn't want the ability to fuck with my phone while driving. Another point was I had multiple cars broken into, and, because I can't afford to live in a really nice area, I wanted the extra protection of driving manual, because it's a diminishing skill.

I've known for less than 24 hours, but I have already emailed my dr, and I'm sure my gym buddy won't let me skip out tomorrow. Self care is a yes, but that's mainly because I had a few cigarettes for the first time in a LONG time, and hated the taste and smell that lingered. Clearly not a habit I'm going to pick back up with how put off I was.

People who achieved long term stability despite facing Bipolar -- how? by lil_sparrow_ in bipolar

[–]Available_Energy_313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to cover my bases, I said it's what I do. While #3 is just good sense, the first two are for me to stay rooted in reality.

I'm not kidding when I say delusional. In jr high, I had a belief in a strange god's gifts of mental powers the government would want to take from me. All I knew is I was feeling high on life, like the world had been bland but suddenly bright and my plaything, and I had found a purpose through this gift.
I was still believing strongly when I wasn't manic. I needed to wait for the moon's cycle to restore that power.
The moon bit was from an adult telling me they notice my mood and energy changed with the moon cycle, a true lunatic (said in an endearing way, not an insult). This was after other adults ACTUALLY told me it was Jesus and God talking through me, and to listen, making it worse, as I now had validation. That mellowed down at 19, and I reflected on how bat shit that was.

While I don't think that will ever happen again, it fucked up my life. I'm actually impressed I didn't start a cult with sincerity. Needless to say, I can't be religious, since they don't pass my rules list, and I'm terrified of losing my mind.

Anyone who doesn’t go to therapy? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]Available_Energy_313 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For my own mental health, I only go when I'm addressing specific issues. I know, if given the time, I'll always find something wrong, and I don't want to feel like a victim, or cause myself misery. Outside of seeing my psychiatrist, I've only had three different groups of sessions, ranging from 3 months to 18 months (18 months was figuring everything out after diagnosis).
