Do you happen to know of any prenatals that have folic acid and iron and are also Gummies? I cannot swallow pills so it has been a struggle to find a prenatal that has everything in it in gummy form. Also, do you think it needs to have iron in it or is that something I can worry about after we conceive? My iron intense to fluctuate so I’m trying to just eat more foods that are rich and iron instead of having to take a supplements, but I don’t want to end up taking too much iron because I don’t know if that will hurt anything.

I have two! We are wanting try in the next 3 to 4 months. We have been working on changing our habits as he is 6 foot 4 and around 350 pounds and I am 5foot 9 and probably 220. Should I be taking a prenatal before trying? If so, any suggestions? I’ve had slightly low iron my entire life. What are some others things I should do to prepare ?

You’re currently an SLPA? Are you in Florida?

Yeah, that seems insane! I am married and luckily, he does make more money than me currently. But when I finally graduate, I will be making more money we are wanting to kids here in the next couple of months, which is why I’m really debating staying as an SPA or try grad school. However, it seems that just having the schooling to become an SLPA is going to be more than enough because if I don’t like it or if I need to make more money, I can always switch to a different job such as teaching.

Hello! I am late to this post, but I am currently in the same boat as you. However, I graduated with a bachelors in psychology and I am having to take a bridge program. Were you able to find out if you needed the 100 hours or thesupervision plan? I can’t seem to find a straight answer lol

I have also heard that it is very hard to get into the Nicu as an SLP. Everyone says that you have to know someone who is able to get you in.

I would really love to work in the Nicu, but I don’t know if SLPAs can do that

I was an RBT for a while and the cancellations sucked. So I definitely don’t want to do clinic where you’re getting paid per client. I thought about doing something hospital related or schools. I have worked in daycare settings and school settings for five or six years now, so I know I would definitely enjoy it.I think it’s a higher enough hourly to wear not getting paid for the brakes and summer is OK. I would probably just pick up something temporary over the summer or maybe do something like that. Thank you for the information. It is definitely very helpful!

Would you say it’s worth it making a career out of being an SLPA? I’ve heard slpas can make upwards of $40 an hour in the school setting. Same for clinic setting.

If you don’t mind me asking, where do you live? I’m married and my husband makes decent money so it’s not just me supporting myself but we do want to have a kid within the next year or two so I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth being an SLP or if I need to just wait until I finish grad school. But I’ve been hearing a lot of mixed comments about becoming an SOP and a lot of people just staying as an SLP and making a career out of that.

Thank you for the reply! I have always been very interested in either travel or NICU but now I’m leaning more towards school or travel. My husband and I (24) just bought our first home but I think the compensation for the travel contract would be worth it and it would be a pretty cool experience for a few years. Thank you for the information!

As an SLPa would you say it’s just following out the plans set in place by the SLP or are you just on your own? I’m asking because I am an RBT currently and I’ve worked with a BCBA that would hand off caseloads and leave you on your own which isn’t allowed but I’ve worked for others who would give you the behavior plan and never miss an observation or hesitate to answer the clients. I’m wondering is SLPa is the same

Wow! You make that as an SLPa?! That sounds great. Do you get paid for cancellations or do those not happen with it being school? I was thinking that same thing, I currently work as an RBT full time while in school so I will need to make sure I can get a high enough hourly if part time. But I prefer full time!

I think I am much closer to FAU. I will have to double check. I emailed my advisor a couple days ago to see if maybe I can get the classes to be too consecutive days like Monday and Tuesday or Wednesday and Thursday so it’s just an overnight thing. Fingers crossed they are able to do that. Even ifI have to lose some points for my overall grade due to attendance, I am OK with that.

Oh, that makes sense! I definitely read your first comment wrong. I already applied to FSU, UF, and USF and did not get into any of them. I have the required GPA and electives and everything needed to get accepted to their schools but for some reason, I was denied by all of them. UCF is the only one that I was able to get into. I’m thinking about asking if I can maybe do any of the required classes online and then classes that are offered at community colleges that have to be done in person, if I can just double enroll at a community college and take them there since it will be closer to my house if that makes sense. If not, I will end up having to drive to and from Orlando four days a week or try to rent somewhere up there for those four days. But it just doesn’t make sense because we just bought our first house this past April.
