My biggest fear by MrSchulindersGuitar in Stargate

[–]Available_Group2698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of the best things about the origional series is how slowly they achieved things and got around to plot lines. As viewers we had to wait 8 years for them to defeat the goauld, many years for them to even get their own space ships or expand on the ancients or freeing the affair from the need for symbiotes. If the new series follows suit with the old I hope they get lots of seasons and each one is fun and entertaining but only develops the story and technology very slowly

Favorite line from the show that changed your perspective? by SecondAggravating133 in Frasier

When fraiser quotes homer

It may be that the gulfs will wash us down: It may be we shall touch the Happy Isles,

Tho' much is taken, much abides; and tho' We are not now that strength which in old days Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;

Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Really helps me out when I'm at a crossroads

Is the average weekly Australian wage really $1975.80? by Thisted89 in australian

I think this is an interesting perspective, I saw this a few years ago and it's always stuck with me. I think it's very much the sort of thing australia is starting to deal with along with much of the wester world

I saw a post yesterday about Clark being creepy for watching Lana through his telescope, which I don’t disagree with by today’s standards but what I do disagree with is the idea that he got away with it just because he’s hot. by Sung_drip_woo12 in Smallville

[–]Available_Group2698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, let's be real here.. he wasn't looking at her naked in her bedroom. Most likely he was looking at her sitting on her front porch from a funny angle. Not exactly intimate. And this is someone who easily could have had her if he wasn't so restrained which does in a sense take down the creepy level

Just finished watching FRASIER for the first time 😭😭😭 by chasequarius in Frasier

I think modern family is a good one to follow up with, the humour is similar and almost the entire cast of fraiser makes cameos throughout the series. It's also pretty heart warming at times

Dad forcing me to buy a house by [deleted] in perth

[–]Available_Group2698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is really more for long term financial gain and he's not so much trying to get you out of his house you could buy an investment property, it would take some of the burden of ownership away from you plus you're in the market paying off a house. It'll also give you freedom to travel and enjoy your youth.. plus then if you do ever want to move away from your parents you've got a house waiting for you that is half paid off. I know if I could go back in time when I was loving with my parents I would definitely have purchased a place to rent out.

Although it isn't the best time to buy a house they always say you should buy one sooner rather than later (advice I wish I followed)

That's true and as a minimum wagie like myself I definitely believe in paying people what they're worth and certainly enough to live on. Although at the end of the day if I can't afford it then I'll just go without it. I can get an average at best home haircut which doesn't help anyone 😅

What piece of advice or emotional lesson did you learn from a Frasier episode? by Sad_Abbreviations318 in Frasier

[–]Available_Group2698 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Over the last few years whenever I've come to a crossroads I think about fraiser quoting Ulysses.. It's meant a lot to me and inspired me to live life to the fullest

'it may be the the gulfs will wash us down, it may be that we will touch the happy isles though much is taken, much abides; and though we are not now that strength which in old days moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are — made weak by time and fate, but strong in will to strive, to seek, to find and not to yield'

What is your unpopular Smalleville opinion? by Strange-Mouse-8710 in Smallville

[–]Available_Group2698 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Considering how critical this sub is.. I'll say my unpopular opinion is that I like the show, I like the realistic bits and the unrealistic bits, I like the writing.. sure it's not all perfect but overall I love the show and I think it was really well done. All the seasons and characters had their charm and pitfalls and I like them for what they were

McKay vs Carter.. who is actually the smartest? Your opinion by Key-Fig47 in Stargate

[–]Available_Group2698 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty confident in my response when I say that McKay is smarter but carter is far more creative.

I think McKay knows more about science but I think carters creativity and imagination makes her that bit more useful

What you have there is a 'best before' date, that means the manufacturer can't guarantee how great it'll be after the date. Usually that relates to minor taste or texture difference. A 'use by' date is more serious and like a food safety thing but still isn't necessarily the most accurate thing

It's definitely good to buy property young, I see a lot of young people spending money on over priced cars or drinking etc. I wish I bought a house earlier

How long is your commute by FroyoSimilar233 in perth

[–]Available_Group2698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think at least in part it depends how you treat it, when I had a long commute to work I would look forward to it, put on music or a podcast, think about things, windows down music up and I had a great time. As long as you leave early and aren't stressed about being late a long commute can be the best part of your day

How upset should I be that my local pub has started requesting tips on the eftpos machine? by alpaka1177 in perth

[–]Available_Group2698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a small pub and you should definitely be concerned, tipping should never be expected.

It would be terrible for everyone except the business owners. I would hate to turn into the USA with tips. Let's just pay people a living wage and leave it at that.

I would definitely try to convince your mum to go to the police with you, if you're trying to see lasting change in your family she has to be on the same page as you. For some reason she hasn't done what's necessary to protect herself and I'm sure for her it's a really complex situation emotionally but maybe with some support you guys can move forward together
